The first few seasons of family guy, before it got canceled, had some amazing jokes.

"A boat's a boat but the mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat!" is such a damn good line

American Dad is the superior show. Much better refining of the formula, and unafraid to go full surrealist. Much less McFarlane influence too, but I'm sure that's unrelated

I've honestly had enough of television shows that show a middle-aged white idiot continue to fail upward, as I get enough of that in reality every day.

Should I rewatch Sealab 2021? It has been years since I’ve watched it. Possibly a decade.

The only Family Guy-related thing that's given me joy in the last decade is when Zeke Nicholson portrays Peter Griffin on Comedy Bang Bang as a real person who is trying to rebrand as a dramatic actor.

They never should have abandoned the core old sitcom feel of the first few seasons. It grounded the show in a way that made the cutaways much more tolerable.

In fact I fucking hate the criticism of "LOL cutaway gags" because if you have a problem with that you have a problem with seasons 3-5 of The Simpsons and like all of The Critic. And that means you have a problem with me.

The issue isn't with the cutaways, it's that they have little to no basis in whats going on.

Compare to a common Simpsons cutaway, where Marge rebuffs Homer for having achieved his dreams, it always is on the tangent of the topic they were talking about, but still a cutaway nonetheless.

Family Guy just after a point gave up and went full blown "remember the time" where the cutaway has zero basis in whats going on.

I still watch family guy. I wouldn't say it's funny even most of the time, but usually I get one chuckle out of an episode. Though some are very very stupid

About a decade ago I used to watch Family Guy almost every night, because it was always on

Just constant reruns, over and over

And then one day, there was some switch in my brain that got flipped, and I was just like "...why am I watching this?"

American dad is a legitimately great show, and while family guy is hideous mean spirited poison it of course occasionally is funny, mainly because the show is basically nothing but random unconnected gags in rapid fire for 21 minutes, and that kind of shotgun approach occasionally hits, but it’s a write off because the bad jokes aren’t just not funny they’re actively hurtful, hateful and mean

Bob’s Burgers seems like a show I should be thrilled with, but anytime I try to watch it I get 2 minutes in before another show gets my attention and holds it.

Just watched the first and second episodes. Even way back they were solid. I remember back when the first season wrapped up that we hoped that fox didnt cancel it.

Bobs burgers I tend to watch while I’m doing something else, it’s just a pleasant simple show and all their voices and characters make me smile. Occasionally it’ll get a hearty out loud laugh from an episode, but normally it’s just a warm comfort watch for me

IMO Sealab was always better than Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Hey secret TV animation thread, how's Archer doing these days?

I used to watch that show religiously for the first 3 or 4 seasons and then stopped when I no longer had cable. I know they did some like alternate timeline kinda stuff for a few seasons?

I mean, if you count my computer monitors which are tv screens, then yes.

But really what it is is I start watching and my brain goes, “let’s watch more DS9 instead” and then I go do that, or replace DS9 with some other show I’m trying to catch up on. This only happens with Bob’s Burgers.

There is an unfortunate amount of inside jokes my wife and I have directly coming from early Family Guy. No question on a list of dessert options goes by without one of us telling the other. “We have many flavors of ice cream, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, and people.”
    “What was that last one?”
    “Chocolate.”

My sister gave me seasons 1 and 2 of Sealab 2021 on DVD for my birthday one year, and man I don't know if there's some crucial cultural context I'm missing, or if I just don't find its style of humor funny at all.

    Anyway, Rush -

they went back to the prime timeline for the most recent season but honestly it was pretty "meh". I think it's kind of run out of gas.
