I remember when that hood swap happened a couple of years ago. It even made it onto local news stations, because it was such a weird coincidence.

So, I'm probably about to buy an electric guitar.
This is definitely a good idea!
I just don't know how affordable it is...
I know absolutely nothing about guitars, but it seems there's some pretty decent beginner 'kits' out there. One by Squier seems pretty popular, for an inexpensive Stratocaster. I also know nothing about music, really. I have an old acoustic guitar that used to be my dad's, and I've played around with it for a bit. I said I would put the money into an electric if I ever actually learned to play the acoustic, but never stuck with it. I'm a metalhead, though, and my friend said something I never considered, that at the beginning, it should feel like 'play'. So I should probably find something that I can get that heavy, distorted sound that I love so much.
Anyone with any knowledge about electric guitars have any recommendations?

If you are learning guitar, I can highly recommend Rocksmith. It won't necessarily teach you good technique (you will probably want an instructor for that), but it will quickly ramp you up to playing shit that you like.

yes: buy one of those kits, instead of buying a guitar that alone costs three times as much, because you thought it was pretty and refused to consider anything else
my dad bought the inexpensive stratocaster, that he had strongly suggested I pick, himself, I think out of sheer annoyance more than anything, he didn't really play guitar
nothing wrong with starting on a cheap squire, that's what I learned on
my only real advice is avoid the temptation to become a gear head, more practice will always make you sound better than a nicer guitar/amp/more pedals
or don't, Lord knows it's fun to have a decked out pedalboard
life's a game that you're bound to lose / like using a hammer to pound in screws
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze

But yeah Lodge doesn't bother to machine off the rough surface from the sand casting because fuck you
I'm considering keeping the one I have seasoned and then buying another and using an orbital sander on it first to get rid of the pebbling
buy the same one, and after sanding it strip the seasoning off of the one you have, and season both the same way, so we can get good data about how a smoother surface makes a difference

Squier is a good "i have never played guitar before" brand
it'll have decent enough tone and be made of good enough materials that you won't feel like you're playing a toy
if you want a more traditional metal sound and feel you might want something like a lower end Ibanez
as for sound, also Ibanez. get a tube screamer pedal and that'll get you most of the way there
a small amp, like 15-25w won't put you out too much and you can get some good sound out of something like an orange
all told something around $500 (guitar, amp, pedal) will get you a good starter rig
I'm not sure if I trust that D radiodurans can just survive in the vacuum of space for 8 years for no good reason. I think this fucker came from Venus.

I've come to accept that my wanting to purchase cast iron on kickstarter this morning was dumb and I'm glad I didn't tell my wife.
Also I've got an entire shed full of cast iron pots and pans I've gotten from flea markets and antique stores that I still need to restore first, and I already own those.

As long as I'm buying Man Items that'd buy a nice Benchmade or Emerson folder

Honestly, I'm more likely to keep playing it if I can play the stuff I want to play.
And $500 doesn't seem outrageous for a hobby cost, especially one like that.

What do you mean? Nothing is wrong with it! What are you insinuating?!?!
You seem...
Surprised
if you just want a guitar and are probably going to play it a few times and not pick it back up, don't spend $500
I'm only surprised that you seem to think there is something wrong! There's nothing wrong! Nothing wrong at all!

They're redoing inventory right now but they're so cool.
Little 9 volt battery and amp and speaker in a cigarette pack, or you can use their 3d printed case for it
I need to post more bad deck ideas.
Jank is as jank does. Post a few.
Yeah, an article I was reading recommended the Ibanez Gio GRGR120 for metal, so it's definitely something I'll check out.
We have a music store here in town that I'll pop into next week and see what they actually have, and what they're charging.
What about 5 colour God stuff? 11 hits off the tree, haste from Purphoros beep beep
buy the same one, and after sanding it strip the seasoning off of the one you have, and season both the same way, so we can get good data about how a smoother surface makes a difference
i noticed they also make a 7 string for the same price
i don't know if a 7 string is a good starter guitar but if you wanna djent you'll need more than 6 strings

I think I spent $700 or so on mine
some... 15? 16? years ago
I have not even touched a guitar in about ten of those
edit: that was most of if not all of my accumulated pocket money but fuck it, it's not like kids have anything important to spend money on
they likely will be far more knowledgeable and also will usually do a set up for free (and actually know what they're doing)
I got a knock off microtech the other day I really dig.

at least you got a good 5-6 years of constant and dedicated playing out of it
i'm
i'm sure
This is nova... if there's no guitars at the local hardware store/dentist/tailor then it's an amazon thing.
Yeah, there's totes one of those here called Fiddle and Stix.
