US Immigration Policy - I'd have a snarky subtitle but this shit isn't funny.
Posts
Well thanks I guess for playing your hand regarding how you feel about undocumented immigrants, No Quarter.
I’ll be sure to discount everything you say from this point forward, if you’re going to describe them as border jumpers.
“Not immigrants,” Jesus Christ.
But just saying "Obama deported more people in 8 years than Trump did in 4, boogah boogah" is dumb.
I hate to break it you Lanz, but crossing the border illegally or overstaying a visa is a crime, regardless of how much you don't want it to be, you silly goose.
Please respect -Tal's pronouns, even if you disagree.
Their point is that lack of documentation doesn't make them not immigrants.
I don't see them on mobile, so for that I apologize. I'll make a change in an edit
So is lying about the other side's points. Which is what this is.
edit: the hell are you agreeing with me for, No Quarter?
Unlawful entry is a misdemeanor
Additionally, this is the immigration policy thread. It is 100% fair game to call into question the legal process and its shortcomings and failings. You might even say it's the point. Trying to shut down the discussion with, "Well too bad this is what the law is" is in bad faith and spirit for this thread.
While true, you can’t ignore that they are classified and fall into different legal categories under US law. Regardless of how just we might feel those laws are.
Folks like No Quarter are the exact reason I keep bringing up the white supremacist origin of American Immigration laws/restrictions.
Because of this heinous “distinction” between folks who came to the US “the right way” and the folks who came in the same way everyone entered this country until the late 19th century, when white supremacists created our first immigration laws to purposely keep out non-whites
Which. Is. A. Crime.
And punishable by deportation.
No one gives a shit about non violent misdemeanors until its a cover for something else.
"Folks like Lanz" are silly geese who use phrases like "Folks like No-Quarter", to try and cloak themselves in false sanctimony as if their opinions are the only ones with merit and everyone else is scum because they used imperfect terminology
To try and make a point.
Christ, King’s quote about the white moderate never ceases to hold true
If you're going to make a post like this, it would be helpful to specify what those pronouns are.
you mean like -tal did in their profile?
I ain’t the one who refuses to acknowledge immigrants as such just because they didn’t adhere to an arcane, years long bureaucratic process they weren’t likely to have the resources or time to initiate while leaving their homes which were countries away
Again, a LOT of people do, and they're aren't all the bigoted monsters you want to pretend they are in your common way of oversimplify complex issues so they can be solved with phrases such as "just out them in a hotel with some social workers" or "just give them a million dollars and a house".
Some of us prefer engaging with reality regardless of how ugly it is, rather than pipedreams that will never go anywhere.
should we go back and convict everyone who was doing it before then?
laws can be and often are unjust, you can't just say "it's illegal" and expect that argument to stand by itself
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies
I honestly have no idea what youre trying to do here.
That you don't see on mobile? But try harder to make it something it's not, silly goose.
Are you trying to sound like the racist geese I had to deal with in AZ, because if not uh. This isn't a matter of not dealing with reality, this is a matter of you being weirdly hostile, distorting your opponents position, and being incredibly wrong about a lot of the way things work currently.
it's really weird that you see yourself as the protagonist in this situation.
Except by hiding behind a law with a history you’re refusing to engage with, while denying the fundamental nature of what it means to cross thousands of miles, country to country, to seek a new life in a new country, you’re absolutely not engaging with reality. You’re denying it for something you’re comfortable with.
I'm fine with changing the law, in fact Obama specifically tried to do that with DACA in addition to offering amnesty.
That's still not the same as not deporting anyone, becauase Obama was still bound to follow the laws on the books, despite trying to pretend priortize those convicted of violent crimes over those simply here illegally.
I'd say it's weirder that you think there's a protagonist in a situation with a slight misunderstanding which was apologized for and corrected.
No.
I mean, if the goal is to actually get people to use the correct pronouns and it's important enough to (generic) you to call them out for it, surely it would be better to specify those pronouns in that very post than to make people go through some extra steps to find out what they are?
For y’all who just want to defend the indefensible because it is “the law”
It doesn't matter how I feel, I want the law to change, but presidents are still bound to follow the laws as they are on the books until they're changed, and only then can remedy and redress be offered.
Same thing goes with scrubbing Marijuana convictions

There a reason you’re bringing marijuana up outta the blue or...
I'm not -Tal, and I didn't want to overstep or make a huge thing out of it, I just wanted to point out that NQ was misgendering her
So yeah, I didn't get specific because I don't know anything more than what is written on her profile, which I figured was just a click away for everyone involved (except on mobile, where you have to switch to desktop mode apparently)
Yeah but your arguments up to this point gave had little to do with Presidents and the power thereof.
Wasn't my argument, but try again.
Let me know when presidents can avoid enforcing federal laws when they get sued for it and SCOTUS tells them to get fucked.

yes. that is why I said so.
Nowhere did NQ claim that his ancestors did it right. Just that they had been shit on by the immigration system. Which is just a fact. You offhandedly dismissed this for...some reason? It's a valid question.
Rest is accurate though.
