Alright here's what I can do for now. When the wind really comes in it's going to take one or two of the magnets with it, and they're brittle fuckers, so they're gonna break.
What about plastic chain around the feet of just across the body so it looks like it's being chained up? Then just anchor that under a brick or get longer lengths and wrap and the pillars.

Apparently the beavers are plotting against me. Went to the store first thing this morning and found a small tree across the drive. Just went and cut it up. I gotta say, the battery powered chainsaw is perfect for these small jobs.
Wait, that's actually carpet and not acoustic plaster?

So we've decided, with a little reluctance, to start house hunting again. Our main drivers are that we now own 5 cats and I really feel we should have more room for that many cats, and that we'd like to retire in a house that doesn't have an HOA, because we both loathe HOAs. Any such house would have to checkmark a lot of our wants to be worth the move, though. For example I don't think I'll move unless the house borders an undeveloped area or hiking trail. We're going to tour this one on Saturday and it does cover basically everything we wanted in a house, but seeing it in person is important, it could turn out to be worse than it looks. But no HOA, garage in the front, hiking trail in the back, close to work, 4 bedrooms, more tile or wood/veneer floors than carpet, an enclosed back porch to be used as a cattery - it's really got a lot going for it!
Though the photo of the stair case that is rotated on to its side really threw me out for a moment, thought I was looking at some art installation where everything is the wrong way round!
All the sinks look like tiny swimming pools with swim up bars. I both love and respect it.
"zip, i dunno what it is about you, but there's something very cat-like about your face. i can't really place it. you'd make a good mountain lion." Hail, Satan!Satans Post

The picture of the stairs gave me a weird sense of vertigo.
I got worried at the midpoint of the story when he "couldn't see a downside" to joining the HOA with very favorably offered terms. But that mistake ends up being worth it for the eventual payoff.
Yeah that's a nice house, but man I am jelly of that pricing. That would be around 1.2-1.4 mil in our area.
Well always remember that this price is in Texas, so we pay for that price differential in other ways.
For example, if you are in Canada like it says under your avatar, then you get national healthcare and I would gladly trade the cost of houses for national healthcare. So yeah you have by far the better deal.
That house would still be in the 1 million + range here in the DMV. We're at $750k for 2.5Ksqft townhome and we're in the stix surrounding DC. Kind of jealous of that price while also being in a metro area haha.
I'm also surprised there was a price drop. Property around here is still non-existent and it's a crazy market. I guess it's good to see the market in some areas start to return a bit more to normal.

Meh, market is still pretty wild around here. I think the price drop signifies that even in this market they were shooting too high.
Also Allen, TX is also the stix as a far-flung suburb of Dallas, but Plano, another suburb, is where I'll be working once I have to get back to the office, and Allen is rather close to that.

We saw the house today and yeah seems to be pretty much our dream house? And there are no offers on it yet?! That makes me wonder what we should offer, but I guess our realtor can help with that part. If we do end up getting this house, this experience will be a huge contrast to our first home buying experience. Purchase after looking at just one house, that's nuts! But we do know what we want and this one can give us all of it.

No answer on our offer yet. Seems like they owners cheaped out on their realtor which means they are going to be slow to respond. Sigh. Glad our realtor is a good guy.

Wishing all the good house juju to you! It looks gorgeous!
i kind of dont want to post a picture because its gross but uhh...
has anyone ever heard of a bug or a worm that can.... dissolve metal???
there are a few big holes in the metal track of one of my sliding glass doors that look like a bug has burrowed through leaving behind a very strange... disgusting... sort of... foam?? cream? I dont know how to describe it. its a white frothy semi-solid found both on the interior and exterior of the sliding glass door track, and when I remove that substance, the metal has been eaten away and you can see something burrowed into the concrete below it

Also do ya'll remember 5 years ago when we bought our current house, how the realtor had us write a letter to the homeowners to try to sway them to sell to us? We found out from our new realtor yesterday that that is now illegal. Because, and this should have been obvious to me at the time, some people will use those letters to enact racism. We're talking old-fashioned redlining racism.
Woohoo i put up a gutter on our laundry lean-to and it works perfectly! The dryness has exceeded my expectations especially as i have not fixed the leak in the roof yet. I had thought most of the water was coming from the leak but i guess that most of it was really coming back in after falling off the gutterless roof.
Spring is a wonderful time of year and i get busy with so many projects. I've put up 2 greenhouses (the first blew away 😑), dogproofed the section, got the pool up and running for summer and I'm currently in the process of putting up a shed. Still need to do a lot of things but none of it is depressing, far from it! My unfinished todo list brings me a lot of joy in spring as i can make the most of the daylight hours i get from daylight savings.

So many things to sign, financing stuff happening, disclosures sent, inspection on Thursday.
There was some foundation work done on the house which I'm going to use to try to leverage a lower price.
Strikor doesn't have an unexpired ID though which maybe means he can't be on the title. Our Realtor is talking with the title company. His parents are trying to find his birth certificate to send us to get him a state ID. If we were to attempt to purchase a birth certificate it would be 10 weeks.

Full disclosure, I had to stuff the legs with neck pillows to get it to stand up correctly, on top of tent stakes for wind stability.

And over here I've been told by a realtor I would never be able to sell our condo if I didn't paint over the one sage green wall in the bedroom.
If you survive it!

I'm also curious. Two a/c units?
I would start saving for an arborist
In larger/two-story houses in Texas it’s pretty common because of the load required, and it’s a simple alternative to a more expensive zoned AC setup.

Love the backyard!

Using a carpet knee kicker up there must have been a real SOB.
HOA wants me to join, so I do. Just not how they expected.
