Breaking News: DMX, the snarling yet soulful rapper whose string of No. 1 albums electrified audiences and reflected his gritty past, is dead at 50. https://t.co/3cwuyhytLq
Honestly not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this. Dude was pretty problematic, but also super iconic.

Damn, I spent a huge chunk of my freshman year of college in '99 riding around in my roommate's jeep getting high and listening to It's Dark and Hell is Hot
It is impossible to overstate just how huge DMX was from 98-00. A total force of nature.
RIP

Everyone including me remembers how hard Where The Hood At? bangs, but then I actually sat down some time back and actually paid attention to, you know, the rhymes he spitting, and god damn. Song kinda sucks a lot!
Romeo Must Die was a really good bad movie and DMX was good in it. Also his music was magnificent at a time when I was young enough to vibe and not listen to lyrics too closely. I can't love him the same way now that I did then but this one still hurts.

This was my roommate's and I's favorite movie for like 4 months.
The rap scene, especially since the late 90s, is extremely complicated
I have some stuff from the 90s in my library and it's really too bad because I like these songs yet they really make me uncomfortable every time I hear them talking about smacking a bitch or how many guns they own or selling crack

I'm totally certain I've told this story on here before, but I used to work at a hotel as a valet. DMX stayed there when he was on Celebrity Rehab.
In his downtime, he'd sometimes post up in front of the hotel, sipping out of a Big Gulp. He'd wait for white people to approach the hotel entrance, and then he would bark at them until they scurried inside. Then he'd laugh, sip his Big Gulp, and go back to hanging out.
It was absolutely delightful, it cracked me up every fucking time it happened, and they were the best days I ever had at that job.
What do you mean the rap scene in the 90s was homophobic?
All of pop culture was homophobic then.
I was going to say he should have been in more movies, but I went to IMDB and he's in a bunch of movies that have the same poster as Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 the Grave that I should check out.

I don't know what happens in half this video because I am too busy looking for the Demo man, it's great
Also aside from the absolute bangers he made and that one video of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" my favorite bit about DMX is the 2008 XXL interview where he declares he isn't aware of presidental candidate Barack Obama but he's for sure that "Ain't no ****'s name". It tickles me to this day

As a person he was very flawed but he was dealt a SHITTY fucking hand from birth.
You really gave it to us.
People are complicated
DMX grew up in an incredibly abusive environment
But I believe he did his best
And god damn did his music slap
RIP, X

Delroy Lindo saying "Cheddar" is amazing.

This will be here until I receive an apology or Weedlordvegeta get any consequences for being a bully
Right now Prince Phillip is cruising into the afterlife thinking "Well I may be dead, but at least I don't have to play second fiddle anymore"
and just as he arrives everyone points over his shoulder and goes "HOLY SHIT IT'S DMX!"

*barking heard in distance*
50 is a real young age to die at and it sucks that he can't have another 30 or so years to be better with.

before we even see DMX, we hear him growling from his cell
