Oddly enough I usually found Clan mechs in industrial hubs before I fight them
Especially if the mod was goofed up and had an available date that was waaaaaaay too early (like the Mad Dog one I was running that had them in markets in 3015).
I came back to this game, as I do sometimes. And it is a shadow that I still find some joy in. It isn't the same, no, and the faces are strange and unknown to me, but even now, the fond memories flood back.
I couldn't help but notice the OP anthem link is broken.
Thankfully, through sheer happenstance, I happened to be recording when it originally debuted.
Playing MW5 and you finally come across a heavy mech to buy....and it's a Charger.
Sigh
Y'now, people shit on the Charger, but for an early-game assault it's not terrible. It depends a lot on which variant you get, but I find most of them are serviceable to one degree or another. Also, having a Fat Fatty that can armor-up and soak some fire while your lancemates are halfway-potatoes behind the controls is nothing to hate on.
I was using a Black Knight in endgame if you can get your hands on one, even in 400 ton missions. Load that bad boy up with as many medium and large chem lasers as you can and you can alpha strike heads off of like everyone. Does make salvage kind of a pain, though, because mostly undamaged cockpit'd mechs take up waaaaay more salvage points.

I really appreciate Black Knights more now having played through the game. IIRC, mine I loaded up with paired PPCs for sniping and then a pile of Small Lasers for buzzsawing through melee (before Melee was introduced). Was always fun.
The nice thing about chem lasers is they are waaaaay more heat efficient so you can blast out alphas pretty much all day unless you're on a volcanic map but even then they're pretty heat efficient.

Not the one with only small laser slots and can’t even max out armor with a single small laser loaded.
Every now and then I see OOSK tags in game, sometimes even a full group, but I never recognize the names.
I know that one will not be Betsuni. Unless someone hacked my account.
Oh yeah, these are people who I’ve never encountered before
It might be our group, every few weeks we'll go "hey, a new event has started, who wants a free mech?" and play for a while, and then we'll have a really terrible night and just dump the game until the next time the cycle repeats.

I mean if you could ram in this game sure
Yeah when talking about the Charger that's the one I would assume you are talking about and not one of the refits that takes out the engine and just makes it a generic assault mech.
While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.

CGR-1A5 was once of my fave oldtech assaults way back in the 3065 MUX days. (AC20, 2xSRM6, ML, SL.)
BNC-3M was the other - I called it FACEPUNCHER. (2xPPC, 2xML, no weapons in the arms.)
Scattershot: SHD-2H with no JJ shake and LBX/MRM+SRM quirks
Dreadnought; MAD-IIC w/4 ballistics, 5 energy, and +2 consumables/+2 artillery strikes before skill tree.
Updates to the two new maps
Bought the ECM Thanatos and threw on a pair of rac/5s with a backup of double light ppcs.
If get a good map, this thing puts in work, flanking and jetting to vantage points. There's been a few times I've just gone wide east on Classic Frozen and been a perpetual thorn in the OpFor that eventually withers down whatever the lurm boats have left on them from trying to close on me.

HAIL, FRIEND OOSIKS! It’s been a dog’s age since the last report on the tales of the Oosik Battalion, but I have returned with another installment! All glory to those who fight for our banner!
The Clan Invasion, and then subsequent Occupation, led to many years where our services (and the services of all Mercs) were in great demand for a variety of operations. The Lyrans hired up at a remarkable pace, and even the Kuritans deemed the necessity of rapidly-available, “disposable” forces to bolster their militia lines an unfortunate truth. Thus Oosiks were deployed where their individual and lance predilections would serve the most good, from garrison duty to second-rank fire support, and even to front-line assault roles if required.
Hotel Lance, nicknamed the “Lightning and Thunder” Lance, specialized in direct fire support. Their preferred armaments, heavy on PPCs spread throughout the lance, gave them reach to aid greatly from behind fortified garrisons and as second-line snipers while other Merc or milita units would harry the enemy at close range.
Leading Hotel Lance was the Centurion of Mechwarrior MechMantis. Originally a CN9-D model, MechMantis had the right arm replaced with that of a reworked -AL model. In place of the pair of lasers from the -AL, MechMantis also worked with the OI Technician Group to refit the arm with a pair of Lord’s Light Particle Projector Cannons. As the pair of cannons took up the lion's share of available weapon-weight on the ‘Mech, the chassis’s only backup to them was a single laser mount in the center torso. Quicker than most of the Lance, MechMantis frequently moved around the other three ‘Mechs while in formation, using gaps in the line to snap shots off at enemy targets.
The “Big” of the lance was driven by Mechwarrior nonoffensive. Piloting an Awesome, their original 9M model was eventually refit with a -10KM Endo-Steel chassis sourced from the Combine. Mounting the typical triple-PPC arrangement of many Awesome chassis, nonoffensive chose to back up the long-range cannons with a trio of short-range Medium Pulse Lasers. Despite its copious amount of double heat sinks, the chassis must be managed for thermal overload as is typical of most Awesome designs.
Side-by-side with nonoffensive’s Awesome was Mechwarrior Armchair’s custom Catapult. His preferred chassis throughout the Clan Invasion, when the -K5 variant with Endo-Steel became available the OI Requisitions Department sourced one as quickly as possible. Refit with the arms from a previously-piloted -K2 variant, the high mounts allowed Armchair to routinely snipe with PPCs from cover and hull-down positions. As the Occupation turned to the Civil War, Armchair would go on to replace his old cannons with Snub-Nose models, and replace the remainder of the loadout with newly-developed Light PPCs and Laser AMS systems.
As time progressed further into the Civil War era, the OI Requisitions Department managed to source a number of Clan-spec ER-PPCs and a newly-developed Coolant Pods, all to better serve the sustained damage output of the lance’s preferred rides. MechMantis CN9-D II nonoffensive AWS-10KM II Armchair CPLT-K5 III
The “Thunder” of Hotel Lance was brought by Mechwarrior Forbe. A specialist in LRM weapon systems, Forbe utilized a number of Catapult chassis over his years of service in the Oosik Irregulars. By the time he was reassigned to Hotel Lance, Forbe was piloting a -C5 variant with specialized missile-box arms. Utilizing a custom design, Forbe’s Catapult mounts a staggering forteen LRM-5s, with five tons of ammunition feeding them. The numerous bins allowed for Forbe to carry a great variety of mission-specific LRM munitions, including Smoke, Swarm, Thunder, Incendiary, and Semi-Guided missiles. For sorties that required additional longevity in the field, the OI Technicians would remove two of the LRM racks to mount additional ammunition bins.
From the Occupation to the Civil War and beyond, Hotel Lance would proudly represent the abilities and strengths that the Oosik Irregulars could offer to potential employers."
Do you have a collected set of all the writeups etc you've done for the Oosik Irregulars, Third Battalion? Cause holy shit I forgot how much I love these.

At this point Nips should make a website with all this information on it.
Nice writeup, and I love the way that the paint job turned out!
I didn't realize at the time how many PPCs that we were fielding. They can probably see the heat from orbit! Believe it or not, my catapult design is actually a more reasonable redesign. When Nips originally asked me to recall what kind of catapult that I drove in MWO, we realized that in tabletop it could generate 57 heat per turn with only 26 heatsinks of dissipation.
I think my favorite genre of mech in MWO is "why does this go this fast and hit this hard". Built a new Scorch with 2LB5X, 2LPLas, 4SRM6, runs at 70kph. Have the patience to set up a good ambush and you're walking out of the match with a good statline and a fat stack of cash. Likely dead, but who cares, you're drinking in Valhalla.

Not sure if anyone here remembers me, but I used to be a regular fixture in the stompy robot world! Decided on a whim to reinstall after... many years.

The Mech Delivery mod will let you purchase any mech in the game. But clan mechs will be damned expensive.

Literally, one of the old crew showed up one day and said "Look what I made" and it resonated with the Oosiks (Cause of course it did).
Sigh
worse, it’s an assault mech

On one hand that is cool we have Oosiks still playing. On the other hand, I'm sad that I can't play with them!
