i've been playing a lot of hammer and man i've been enjoying it a lot. huge improvement on base rise hammer. i've been trying to practice with water strike and integrating it into my regular play. not having the new silkbinds is driving me crazy, really getting impatient.
i've gotten a fair bit better with charge blade. i'm making a concerted effort to branch out from SAED spam and get used to using the sword buff, AED, and axe moves when they're appropriate; i'm in the habit of just doing an SAED after everything when i have phials. still not super great at the weapon, but i am starting to get sub-10s in high rank on high tier monsters.
dual blades are... fine but tbh i'm really not getting into the aerial stuff a whole lot. still need to try the first MR switch skill to see how that is.
i opened up MR a while ago but i'm still grinding HR a bit to build familiarity and to assemble a collection of decorations. i wanna at least get the basic ones; some crit eye/attack boost, crit boost, sharpness management, elemental decos, guard/guard up, etc.
But... what's the fun in having half a sword & board, and a mediocre switch-axe if you can't use it to do THE BIGGEST explosion?
I would say, more SAED! More risks!
The best ones are where you strike where the monsters head should be, but isn't: The ground was being uppity anyway.
it helped to sleep off the tilt, ended up playing much better this session and am less thoroughly depressed, but i don't know how much that's just easier matchups (magmadron, kushala, teo, rathalos, last boss, vs. gore, shagaru, diablos, zinogre which is a real murderer's row tbf)
heaven help me, i got some decent talismans cashing in my shit afterward, which was really nice to see. nothing god tier, but a rapid morph 3 with a 3 slot, wirebug whisperer 3/blight res 1 with a two slot, wex 2/fire attack 1 with a 3 and a 1 slot, and a recovery up 3/free meal 3 with a 2 slot (!!!) all of which is pretty nice and serviceable compared to the garbage i've been using since HR.
zinogre definitely feels harder to me in rise compared to world, but I honestly fought him 90% of the time with glutton HBG in world (I could beat him with hammer in world too; idk glutton was stupid good). it might just be the weapons I circulate with in sunbreak though (db, sns, hammer). I just feel like I'm constantly trading hits
zinogre is one of my least favorite fights in rise, i haven't gotten the hang of it since switch launch
hammer used to be a good matchup but he's so fucking coked up in sunbreak it doesn't matter. either constantly spamming attacks that force you to back off because their range and tracking is ridiculous, or he's jumping forty feet away
they made the hitbox a lot less tight on the 360 tail sweep so unless you're already in the one spot it might miss, that shit is just free for him
now that i cleared sunbreak, it's probably time to follow through with the plan and pop the cork by ruining my beautiful 100% switch axe guild card
figured i would probably end up doing two weapons on each file
might pair up switch axe with charge blade? i've got a ton of rapid morph and chain crit on armor augments, and having the AB3 demigod talisman should make the skill tax more bearable
Got back to this after Xenoblade and tried the new stuff.
Seething is bullshit and should never have been added like this. It's just nonstop jumping around the room so you can't stick to it, while constantly scattering scales everywhere, so I think most of my time in the fight was rolling clear of something or healing after getting blindsided because it just constantly spews scales everywhere.

his tail is a huge weak point as well as his head so you want to alternate between the two depending on what he's doing at the moment
I actually had more trouble with normal Beetlegoose then Seething there is a little bit of delay on the scale detonation that makes dashing out of range a lot easier.
I still carted a few times on my 26 kill to crown.
Seething also has some weird self-harm thing where it will critical hit itself for around 600-800 damage it seemed to trigger when i did a significant amount of damage to it's tail scales or chin scales and it would always topple briefly for some free hits afterward.
Silver Rathalos was more annoying, because like Goldie it's Rathalos but more. And Rathalos is still annoying. Fair fight, it's just... in the air a lot, making it annoying.
But other than a few dumb carts*, cleared the first three without too much difficulty.
*Seething just carpet-bombed me, I forgot to grab a farseeker and Silver picked me off while sharpening, and Goldie's super poison caught me before I could find my herbal.
EDIT: Took down Lucent on my first try without a single cart (thanks, Armtortle!). The extra mobility added since 3U really makes a difference, as does not losing lock-on whenever it cloaks. Even nabbed a Moonshard so I think it's time to walk away for the day.
Managed to augment my armor into +65 defense, a 2->3 slot upgrade, Fortify, Speed Sharpening 2 (which combines with a random SS I already had to max that out), Fire Attack 1 (eh), Blast Resistance 1, and a net +3 Dragon Resistance. All this cost me was 1-4 points each in the other resistances, but I still have nothing worse than -5 (which includes the Dragon).
My son setup the Wii for unknown reasons and I've been playing Tri as a palette cleanser.
Its really rough. Too many QoL downgrades to list! Combo books! Annoying small monsters! Cha Cha! Torches! I forgot how bad some of these were!
But then there's easily craftable decorations you can slot into armor starting early on in Low rank! Why did this ever go away. In both world and rise its late into HR before you either get a decent deco to drop (world) or they allow you to craft something even partially worthwhile (rise).
Side note I'm probably one of the few folks who kinda liked the underwater stuff.

weapon is absolutely fucking gimped on these monsters without access to keeping sway, it's ridiculous
these coked out MR 3/4s are making me just want to give up entirely
i genuinely don't understand what i'm supposed to be doing; this was a perfectly fine matchup in high rank.

they're fun as hell in sunbreak
Here's hoping actual human beings can get them.

Still have very little progress in Anomaly i don't find the hunts super fun.
Happy to have all the Layered armor made now though.

Edit: I'll look later but there's nothing I can do if it decides to do a leap attack halfway across the room except stand there and lose time.

making any other hammer has been a total waste of my time
esqueeze me, but final boss hammer is the greatest of all time
i can hit handi 4 on it while capping crit eye, attack boost, wex, and crit boost
goss is my boy
(i might still fuck around with a gais bloodlust set)
I just like the looks of it better
