Try to squeeze out one last dash volley into Teostra as he's about to charge and end up getting clipped by this claw. Knocked briefly into the air, I wirebug out of the falling animation and immediately wirebug again to gain some distance. Teo literally catches me mid-air, my feet haven't even touched the ground after getting clipped, and carts me. My son and I both literally exclaim, "woah, WHAT?"
Does anyone have a list of what items work with Wide Range in Rise? I was having a good time with a SnS build using that yesterday, but I noticed that I didn't get any kind of thank you message from others when I used a Dash Juice, and it made me wonder.
I'm really interested in the Hi Ninja Sword as a foray into SnS.
I saw a build post that seems like what I want, and they recommend "Any talisman with 2 level 2 slots" and I'm like
....do I just have bad luck? I've never seen more than a single level 2 slot : (
I think I have one talisman like that, but I imagine that should be replaceable with any talisman that has at least one point in any relevant skill, like attack boost or something, and one level 2 slot.
I had to farm Tigrex last night for the materials to craft x3 Pierce Up decos, and I dunno what was up, but he was kicking my ass almost every hunt. Like, it was embarrassing. I felt like I got hit by every charge attack. What I suspect is happening is that I run Dodgebolt on Bow because the lowered Stamina cost compared to Charging Sidestep lets me maintain high charge longer while dashing repeatedly between shots. It doesn't move me very far at all, though, and I had previously run 3/3 Evade Extender for that reason. Recently, though, I felt like it was a crutch I was depending too much on, and swapped it out for more offensive options. It hasn't been a problem until Tigrex, lol; I just can't move far enough on a dash anymore to avoid getting clobbered by his charges and dives.
I was having a lot of trouble fighting Barioth the other day. Just could not for the life of my figure out when he has openings. I don't know if any of his stuff will be worth farming for a HH set, but if so I'll have to spend some time and learn his moves.

The maximum a talisman can have is 1 level 3, 1 level 2, and 1 level 1 all on the same Talisman. You can have a lower level in lieu of a level 3 or level 2, so you can have talismans that have 2 level 2 and 1 level 1, or 1 level 2 and 2 level 1, etc. I have a handful of talismans that have 2 non-level 1 slots. They are basically better than my Weakness Exploit 2 talismans now that you can deco WEX in.

Had a minute to do some testing. I'm not seeing any effect on my palicos in the training room when I use dash juice with my Wide Range set on, but of course I am seeing the effects apply to them when I drink things like potions, drugs, and might seeds.
I think you can get the dash juice effect to work with Wide Range via Mushroomancer, but... having to get all three points just to be able to eat exciteshrooms seems like a complete waste.

I mean, palicos don't have stamina, so it's possible that dash juice didn't affect them for that reason. Trying to think of other items with effects they can't logically use...Immunizer, probably?
Imagine you live in Monster Hunter times, you are in the middle of class and suddenly you, your classmates and the teacher are all feeling really good. Teacher looks outside and it's goddamn Brian Wilkins the truant pothead, lighting it up just outside with his Wide Range hoodie equipped. Dammit Brian, I just got a new job and I'm supposed to get drug tested tomorrow.

Ugh, this is a really good point, and I wish I had a better way to test this without having to conscript someone. I had the same issue when I wanted to test which of my attacks would flinch or knockback other people, but my palicos were completely unaffected regardless.
A doctor wanders into the hospital emergency ward wearing his Wide Range lab coat, downs a mega potion, antidote, energy drink and immunizer, and then excuses himself to the restroom.
I'm gonna be straight with you guys; I'm 36 years old and I have no fucking idea what an amiibo is, or what you get for having one in Rise. Is that some shit I have to buy? lol

They're the Nintendo Toys to Life (think Skylanders, etc). They mostly just scan to passively unlock stuff in games. I'm very glad for the Smash Bros line of amiibos because it gives collectibles for characters that generally don't get them (Ridley, King K. Rool, etc)

It's almost impossible to get the three Monster Hunter Rise amiibo figurines, as they sold out fairly quickly and most amiibos are very limited edition. But you get a set of layered armor from each of them (one for you, one for your Palico, and one for your Palamute). Also, all amiibos can be scanned up to 3 attempts per day (total across all amiibos) for free lottery stuff (5 slots of random items). It's a very minor benefit at best, but you can use any amiibo for that (not just the MH Rise ones).
I'm pretty sure bootleg amiibo talk is forbidden here, but it exists.
Dudes, I love the 2 music DLC you can buy. Highly recommended.
Each one is actually 4 songs in one! Piano versions of Kamura, gathering hub, buddy area, and the dango song. And then similar musics from Generations. It's such a great change of pace after 100 hours of singing. Best DLC IMO.

I’ve been using the hub prep area smithy when fiddling with armors and decos not so much for the singing but the dude outside won’t stop sharpening his sword.
my best talisman after the update went from wex 2 no slots to the absolute unit of AB2, one 3-slot and DIVINE BLESSING 3, an incidental skill that let me luck-tank teostra's supernova. i appreciate this skill very much as a freebie.
now that i've hit every fight at least once, time to grind out a few more decos and a lot more talismans, i guess.
greatsword didn't get much except the teostra hat, narga still best GS, i've heard rampage can come close with good talismans.
+1

Yeah I'm switching to an Affinity GS build as opposed to a Brutal Strike one. That Teostra helmet is just too good.
Hey you guys are super smert. What do you think on ramp-up skill for the hunting horn Bazelreid Rookslayer?
I'm guessing it's the new best HH. It's the only horn in the new top tier, with 220 attack, and earplugs S, attack up, and health recovery L (which is just broken with bead of resonance). Blast element...I would miss paralysis but the rest is great.
Ramp-up choices are Defense Bonus +20, Blast buildup +7, or increase in performance's range. I'm leaning towards the range, but I don't know if it ends up being a marginal increase compared to getting extra blast. But if I'm using this thing to become a healing maniac then range would probably be preferable in a lot of situations.

Also Teostra down. Was a pretty fun fight.
No, it absolutely doesn't.
but, you ask, doesn't tier 1 of flinch free give you tier 1 of flinch free while airborne
yes
yes it does
Jump Master is a three slot decoration

have you been crafting off the final two talisman options? afaik that's the only way to get talismans with that many slots
Preaching to the choir as far as I'm concerned but I didn't realize the attack boost was there.

Maglamalo now gives 3 Blood jewels on jackpot which is really nice.

Well, really I'm just having fun punching all of the monsters and knocking them out.

you could make a case for it when you were having to slot in shitty armor pieces for wex
now i can get wex 3, crit boost 1, crit eye 7, attack boost 7 on a tigrex hammer with no slot
