Okay, so.. Who is Simon Whistler?

I subscribe to at least 1 channel of his, Megaprojects, which seems to be like Diet history channel most of the time. I've seen a couple of his other channels, including ones where he's fairly vulgar.

    Just.. who is this man?

My latest music obsession is a one-man band called SUGR. I found out about him because he streams Among Us with a group that I really like, and someone discovered he'd also made music and it turned out some of them were actually real bangers.

    My favorite:

    About 70's production!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edwk-8KJ1Js

Yes, I agree there are issues in the production, and you can hear the peaking specifically at 1:50 when the overdriven guitars kick in and a bit of warping when the background vocals kick in, but that guitar intro is clean.

If you hear distortion in it, I dunno, I don't. I hear analog recording, as others have put out, and something that tracks far closer to live instrument sounds. Modern applications can remove the production woes that resulted from layering tape.

    Jesus y'all cleared some pages.

I got two more raised beds filled and planted, so the onions, herbs, strawberries, squash, zucchini, and pickling cucumbers are all in along with the tomatoes, and peppers.

Still got to plant the aloe, lemongrass, and a few others, and I've got two circular raised beds for a mint garden (since mint spreads) and a flower garden for pollination.

Only thing past that this year is planting wild fruits/vegetables around the perimeter.

    Fuck I am tired.

It sounds a tinny and sparse compared to modern equipment. This is also a digital remaster that has likely been processed to correct for time distortions and to partially modernize the compression.

It doesn't sound bad, they did a great job. But it sounds of its era, to the degree that this recording even is of its era. And I emphatically insist it's in no way superior than audio recording and mastering today. It's just familiar to you and triggers nostalgia.

Yeah for the aloe I just got two big 16inch planters for two aloe plants and two lemongrass plants which should keep the bugs away on the deck. I'll put a third aloe plant in the forge once I get it built, and probably a fourth in the wood shop.

    I hurt myself a lot.

People are ready to have sex again: Condom sales are surging
Condom sales have been in a slump during the pandemic as people sheltered at home and put their sex life on hold. But now, as more Americans are getting vaccinated and Covid-19 safety restrictions are loosening, condom makers are no longer having trouble getting their sales up.

Male condom sales in the United States increased 23.4% to $37 million during the four weeks ending April 18 compared with the same stretch a year ago, according to the latest figures from IRI, a market research firm that tracks point-of-sale data at big box retailers, grocery stores, drug stores and other retail channels.

That's after a 4.4% drop in all of 2020, according to IRI.

Reckitt Benckiser (RBGLY), the maker of Durex condoms, said Wednesday that Durex logged a double digit percentage sales increase during the company's latest quarter compared with the same quarter last year. Durex sales grew last year, despite a "challenging first half of the year," and sales were flat in 2019.

The company does not break out specific figures for Durex, but it attributed recent growth to relaxed social distancing rules.

Also to punctuate the degree to which a love of 1970s rock sound is nostalgia, I was going to post a few #1 hits off the apple music hot list but it was too cruel.

It's all staccato atlanta style rap with autotune warble and the degree to which it'll alienate everyone here and make them feel the passing of time is too much. It certainly made me feel old as I failed to appreciate a single aspect of it.

I had a grandfathered $45 a month membership for the longest time until I reluctantly cancelled it early last year due to financial stuff. It's now at least $59 a month, and that's if you sign up for a whole year. oh huh I misremembered, it's $590 for a year which is only $50 a month. Nice.

Yeah I've got a portable HAM/Multiband but don't have my license yet. I mostly want to use it for Morse channels still operating out there. CB isn't as practical as it used to be but I've got a decent one in my truck. Thankfully I'm at one of the higher elevation points here so I might put up a small tower or antenna on the outer perimeter cabin when I build it in a couple of years.
