Hah, I'm pretty surprised about a 2 Minutes to Late Night collaboration. That's pretty cool. I've bought all nine of their cover EPs that they put out in a limited fashion over the last year.
edit: This is probably Bakalar's doing. I remember him wearing 2 Minutes to Late Night shirts in the past.
Jeff always talked about how giant bomb was almost a site about hanging out with bands.

This one is probably my favorite Two Minutes to Late Night cover/video. It's a cover of Tom Petty's "Running Down a Dream" and there's just a ton of late 1990s computer imagery (and anime) throughout.
TMtLN always seems lacking in one or more place, to me anyway. They'll cover a great song, but the guest vocalist is a complete mismatch. They'll cover a great band's worst song. Or they have all of the right pieces but the host will ruin it with his heavy metal Turtle Kid act. I just can't get into them, and this is another Giant Bomb 3.0 show I'm not at all excited about.
Oh, I actually just saw that Where Is My Mind cover recently because the guy at the start is a pro wrestler who uses the Pixies' original as his entrance music. It also has the guitarist from PUP doing guitar for the cover.
The facepaint just makes me think of a different wrestler, Danhausen.
Not really my thing, but if GB seems excited, then bully for them.

Danhausen actually shows up in their most recent video.
Tamoor and Lucy's new show will be called "The Very Online Show" and it's about (I'm probably presenting this as poorly as possible, so apologies) a show where they dig into weird internet cultures and meme progression.
First two episodes will be free, so I'll give it a shot, but it doesn't strictly seem up my alley.
I feel like a lot of people made that style of show during the pandemic. Allegra Frank formerly of polygon has something similar called "Would you look at the time" where they just browse weird internet
So what the hell is it? It's five comedians from the writer's room of Two Minutes to Late Night deep in conversation in a sort of "How Did This Get Made?" but for critically panned albums across various genres of music. For instance, the first episode takes a look at the latest Weezer album, Van Weezer, and asks, "But why?"
So between this and the meme show, I have the wonder if the plan is for Giant Bomb to pivot away from being primarily a videogames website? I'm probably reading into things.
Additional info!
- Recapping 4 episodes per podcast
- We're watching the show on US Netflix
- First podcast episode is FREE, the rest will be Premium
- Loose promise of guests on future episodes!
- Audio only show!
Those sound like they could be interesting I guess. Not really what I was hoping for, but I guess I can see why others might be hyped for these. At least some of them also feature GB folks.
Albummer seems like the kinda thing I’d love to see Jeff G and Alex working with them on.

I can not tell you how much I do not care about people I've never heard of talking about not video games on giantbomb dot com
what are they even doing with the site at this point

I get trying new things but when you just put outside people and not even friends of the site the content doesn't make any sense.
GrubbSnax gets a pass IMO cause its more of a news/industry insider focused thing so you need one of those kinds of people to cover it.
I dunno, I'm fine with them experimenting with stuff. Jeff G himself said back when he was talking about the new direction they were going that he wanted to try lots of new, weird stuff and not all of it was going to hit. I'll give it a shot. I've liked all the other new stuff that's been put out so far.

ya that's the thing. Honestly my fav parts are when a group of friends on the podcast talk about anything but games. A bunch of people I've never heard of, that aren't gradually introduced into the community organically, talking about topics that aren't even tangentially related to the site, I just don't get it.
Jan also announced a Power Rangers Rewatch Podcast
so here's the thing I don't get about this
Power Rangers season 1 came out in 1993, when I was 10 years old. I think there is a good chance Jan wasn't even alive yet? I do not understand this 20s something infatuation with Power Rangers. A ton of the stuff that Ben and Jan talked about I feel like they weren't nearly old enough to have experienced!
Like as somebody who was the 'right' age to watch Power Rangers Season 1 as it aired, that show was fucking terrible and I only liked it cause i was 10!

a) You can like things older then yourself
b) Power Rangers is incredibly popular just cause you didn't like it doesn't mean everyone has to.

They've been making and airing a new season of Power Rangers every year since then, to this day. He probably came in on it with a later season and ended up digging it.

Jan is turning 30 this year if I have my math right, which would mean he was about 1 or 2 when Power Rangers Season 1 was a thing.
For comparison, I was 1 when Transformers came out - Born in 83, released in 84. As a child, I had a smattering of toys, a VHS tape with a single episode on it, and an HBO recording of the 86 movie. Beyond that, I only had whatever reruns I could catch until the era of peer-to-peer file transfer clients where I was able to actually watch the entire show.
I have spent an embarrassing amount of time and money on my Transformers hobby over my lifetime, and at one point I was even going to be in a Transformers podcast, to really bring it around to Jan.
Also, like Transformers, Power Rangers never actually went away, so kids are being introduced to it constantly, and Season 1 looms large (especially since S1 characters stick around in the franchise for the next several years after S1) just like the original 1984 Transformers lineup occupies a massive amount of mindshare in that particular hobby.

Had to shut the bombast off because the volume disparity between Danny and Jeff G was driving me fucking nuts. Stream production seems like one of those things that's invisible when done well, but jarring when not.
Not super interested in any of the shows announced so far, but there's bound to be something in the pipe!

no shit?
well that explains that
The show reinvents and recasts itself every few seasons -- for example, the current season is named Power Rangers Dino Fury and involves aliens and dinosaurs. Super Sentai -- the Japanese show that it's licensed off of -- works the same way.

I get the impression they are trying whatever crazy ideas they think make any sense and seeing what sticks. They know their audience is getting older and isn't just in to video games. There are cross-over things they can be doing in the larger "games are culture now" space. Not really sure any of the new shows except Borne to Run are for me so far, but I understand the scatter shot approach of "We've got this chance to maybe reinvent ourselves, lets try some wild stuff". Some of it will stick and I'm sure some of it won't.

While still bringing back you're old favorites from time to time
If there are two things I am always down for the discussion of, they are bad music and Power Rangers. Also I just recently bought the first three seasons of Power Rangers and a bunch of Sentai shows so this is especially timely.

I need to stay the fuck away from that game, and yet I am intrigued...
Also interesting them talking about how they don't show the overall score during the matches, which is straight out of the Splatoon playbook.
boy do I have no interest in that
weird overlap with GB

This was always one of my favorite Tom Petty songs too, and I loved what they did with it.
