I guess it is to be expected that Fortinite would decrease for a few years after the absurd highs a few years ago

It also makes it obvious why Sony was able to get Epic to agree to the crossplay conditions

If I'm reading the full chart behind that link correctly, they went from making 2 billion from Fortnite in 2018 to making only $300 million in 2020. That's not enough to cover their losses from the free games they offer on the Epic store, so that's probably going to dry up by the end of the year.

I avoid iOS products like the plague but my best friend specifically likes them for the walled garden aspect. They'd probably be super frustrated if Apple was forced to open up

Epic's whole marketing shtick when they deliberately broke their contract with Apple and sued then was super skeezy

If having a 1984 parody ready to go by minute one didn't tip you off that they planned it, there's an e-mail from Tim Sweeney to Phil Spencer of Xbox basically going "Hey, you should drop the Paywall for F2P games, we something big coming up that it'd make for great positive press synergy!"

There's definitely a sense that Tim Sweeney was thinking 'I've got all the money in the world now, I can do whatever the fuck I want' and then tried to do whatever he wanted.

back when this first started i saw a good number of indie gamedevs on twitter saying that like, epic sucks and this is all just a naked cash grab, BUT if they win it'll mean good things for everybody, and unfortunately if you wanna challenge apple in court you need Epic money

i don't give a fuck about epic but i hope the outcome of this case helps smaller folks out

It wasnt really an apple fight but I once saw a semi-pro baseball pitcher baseball pitch an apple into the side of somebodys head at what appeared to be 300mph that was memorable

Mu husband is obsessed with honeycrisp. we've been planning our past few apple picking trips to coincide with when they're ripe. They're a bit sweet for me, though.. I prefer golden delicious

If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing

My apple eating world changed when I learned how to tell if an apple was mealy before I bought it. Never had a mealy apple since and its the BEST

You flick the apple with your finger. The higher picthed and sharper the sound that results, the better the apple. Nice solid *plink* is good, low hollow THUD is a mealy woody reject.

Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.

The critical problem for me with the pre-planned marketing to accompany the suit is it makes your whole stance, no matter how valid on its own, feel really insincere.

It is totally insincere, they literally said it was the other day when asked if they would have been fine with it if Apple had just cut them a unique deal which allowed them to implement their own payment processing and they said yes.

Like, I don't know if that question will play into anything at all, but questions aren't usually asked for no reason, and it definitely straight up illustrated what most people could have probably figured out, which is that the real issue of Apple's marketplace control was just something they were utilizing because they wanted more money.

For apple pie you need to take structure into consideration, so you want a good mix of taste but also you don’t want baked applesauce in a pie crust

Or do you, you absolutely wrong person

This should be a work related post
back in 2018 because I was basically forced to do the gm side of the store {on a back to school weekend} I handed out tc 70's a android operating device
Someone found a way to go to the google store and downloaded Fortnite onto it and spent the rest of the shift playing it

Most indies probably wouldn't really benefit from Epic winning because they would be still really reliant on the dominant store

Epic is also trying to limit the benefits by saying consoles don't count because *handwaves*

I hate this. The only reason one is "general purpose" and the other isn't is because one company refuses to allow their product to be used in a general purpose manner! THEY ARE ALL COMPUTERS THAT CAN RUN A TON OF DIFFERENT SHIT!

Wait you actually WANT to deal with more PC style bullshit on a console?

The entire point is the simplicity!

I keep thinking the thread title is "Eric Apple" who was a college roommate of my friend. He was a weird dude and the rumor was he was kicked out of the dorms for being a sex pest.

I have no idea how you split the baby on having consoles that things just work on versus the PC wild west of "build it! you can probably make it work! but it's going to be work!". But then the only consoles I do are nintendo, because I wanna play marios and can't do that on PC, and nintendos online anything is a decade outdated and half backwards anyway.

Have there been any recent feelings about how EPIC is treating game devs? My last impression was that they were luring them with a bigger cut than steam, tossing cash at them for initial exclusivity, and tossing cash at a lot of older projects that got me a TON of free games over the past year or two. Obviously hard to know if an initial EPIC deal is worth the loss of initial steam sales but that's up to the financial sense of individual games, and money in hand may well be worth missing some sales overall. So while their store still sucks to browse, I'm not finding a lot to hate EPIC on, at least store wise. Fortnight wise they (as far as I know) still need to pay and credit dancers and generally be better about not stealing shit.

There was a document earlier that showed how much they paid for the free game offers, and there were a few indies that got paid less than $100,000 for games that were downloaded millions of times.

I'm sure that money was appreciated, but it feels pretty skeevy to me.

Do you use the salt shaker to core out the apple? This is causing me a great deal of eyebrow furrow.

Figuring out how many sales are lost when making a game free is just as difficult as figuring out how many sales are lost due to piracy. For example, I wouldn't have normally bought Axiom Verge but I played it for free through Epic

It feels like with the way they've tried to make these consoles into all purpose media devices, the idea of general vs special purpose gets murky

Hot take: if I'm expected to use a console as my Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, D+, ESPN+, YouTube, Twitch, whatever-the-fuck box?

The console should put an in-console browsing method instead of forcing me to open each app individually, wait for things to load, and then search for something. A more broad level search from an "All libraries" menu or something, that would show me which of the apps I have access to (maybe even the ones I don't!) has the thing I searched for, and then opening up a button I could push to bring up that app? That would be very nice. As it is it takes like fucking 5 minutes to search Netflix, Prime and Hulu for a movie title, just to find out none of them have it, and it's a colossal waste of time and a good example of what a little collaboration can do to make your users' experience better.
