Friendly reminder Matt Berry is a legitimately good musician and has a lot of acid jazz albums out you can listen to.

He clearly needs to do a synthwave album.

He just responded to someone like two days ago asking about whether he'd ever play Lou Grant again

Just man, 91 is a good run but this one still sucks

Was actually thinking this morning, before I had heard the news, about how Nick at Nite had a weird effect on my consumption of media as a kid

From what I heard on spotify, it sounds more like psychedelic rock. Still pretty great, though.

I was debating on posting that because it's the single most prominent role that pops into my mind whenever I think of Ed Asner

like all people everywhere, I liked ed asner's work an awful lot

Up was especially important to me since his character was basically a 1:1 transfer of my actual grandad

exact same square-jawed grouch with the haircut from the forties

Ed Asner is in the NPR-produced radio drama of Return of the Jedi.

    He voices Jabba the Hutt.

He does so entirely in Huttese because Ed Asner was a god damn professional.

Calling it petty just seems... It's not just wrong. It just doesn't feel like it's even on the right track?
Spike spends most of the series not pursuing his past. Vicious had to kidnap Fey to force him into a conversation. Then at the end Vicious has killed the woman he has wanted to run away with to start a new life. That's petty? Or is this about the actions of Vicious?

he doesn't pursue his past because he thought julia was dead

I didn't mention that because it isn't relevant. King said that Spike shouldn't have pursued his past and I responded by pointing out that he mostly didn't and that when he did it was for good reason.

Yeah, one of the overriding themes of Cowboy Bebop is if the characters can change and become something else. Those who refuse to change WILL eventually die, they're essentially choosing death. Spike is given many chances to become someone new and makes the deliberate choice to regress back into his old self and
    dies on those stairs.
Jet is confronted with his past and chooses the future and thus survives. Faye is in a near constant state of change that lets her escape numerous death defying circumstances. etc etc The movie fits in so well with the main series because it triples down on these themes.

Finally got access to Paramount+, started watching Evil season two.

Was near-immediately reminded that Michael Emerson should have more Emmys than he does.

    "So because I'm a psychopath, I can't be possessed?"
    "No, you can be both."
    "Yay!"

I need to get on seeing season two of Evil. One of the performers from a pre-Broadway musical I worked on had a guest spot as a monk on the latest episode, and I'm dying to see how he did. He was an absolute hoot to work with in person!

I'm half-way into DS9's second season and I have developed a certain rotation of consistent reactions to the show:

    -- "Oh Julian, fuck off!"
-- "Quark, you piece of shit..."
-- "Rom, you PIECE of SHIT!!"

Probably my least favourite DS9 moment is when Jake and Nog are talking to some girls and Nog says some absolutely revolting stuff to them, and Jake rightly goes off at him, and later his Dad is like 'Now now Jake, we have to remember that Nog is a Ferengi and being a gross piece of shit to women is a part of their culture.'

    And it's like, you're Sisko

Have Major Kira tase that little turd until he pees himself. Tell him that's part of her culture.

But man it is a delight to see John McGinley have fun onscreen again

Gul Dukat is never sinister! He just chooses the worst possible answer every moment of his life. Even moments when there is no worst answer, he stays up all night and fabricates his own! You'd think he's some kind of genius at doing the wrong thing but he isn't because he chooses the worst possible answer instead!

He keeps getting shots at redemption over and over, and every single time he's just like, "Fuck that, what if I got more power instead?"

I assume, if given the opportunity, Felicity would absolutely commit genocide and then try to shame you for not appreciating how brave she is, so yes

Dukat does get a questionable makeover in later seasons, just like Felicity...
