Speaking of Dark Souls, everything is on big sale again if anyone is interested. The cheapest entry point would be Dark souls 2 at 10 bucks for the entire game plus dlc. There is a ton of game in that one if you get into it so it's really value for money

Would be a good timing if you start playing now and slowly work through the trilogy since big dark souls is coming early next year

This assumes that seven months is long enough to get through the trilogy. Judging by my performance that seems optimistic.

There's probably a dark meta for winning internet arguments where you just write Forbes blogs about whatever you're arguing about and then link them going "Here's a Forbes article that proves what I'm saying."

Paul Tassi has been a longtime reporter on live-service games on Forbes, he's one of the biggest journalists/opinion-writers on Destiny for quite a while
He's not a random nobody, in the community

Anyway that TF2 thing that Uncle Dane tweeted about is official: https://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=85643
    Relevant bits:
    Numerous security and stability improvements
Added a ConVar to control players changing their name during a match
    tf_allow_player_name_change: default is 1
Matchmaking servers will set this to 0
Kick votes will end early and automatically pass if the vote target leaves the match during the vote
Updated the player list in the vote-kick dialog to show the time each player has been connected to the server

    Metro Exodus update:

I feel that this game does a much more interesting job with post nuclear war motif than Fallouts. A lot of the environmental storytelling seems better too. Also I put a motion detector onto my wrist and forgot about it and now I'm in an underground bunker with the detector going off and large spiders literally coming out of the walls and hoo boy this game became an Aliens style horror game REALLY quick.

Paul Tassi has been pretty reliable, as far as I know. And I can confirm, looked through some random vods on Twitch and found one where it happened and the IP address certainly seems to be a real one of a real person. Seems like the bug is only happening on Playstation, but sheesh.

Edit: Tweet from the game's official twitter about it.

IP address isn't good for much besides running a DDOS on you at that moment in time.

    Can't you spoof ip's?

Whoops, your ip was caught hosting a bunch of mp3s and nintendo roms and now your isp is on your ass because they've gotten complaints from the copyright holders.

Once you learn the “vocabulary” of dark souls you can pretty reliably pick the others up in stride. Sekiro is really the one that stands out where if you aren’t used to Parrying, which the souls games don’t make you learn, you can feel like you’re on the bottom of the learning curve again.

Edit: I’ve decided that I’m going to go through the rigamarole of the secret ending in DS3. Time to get married.

OK, so with Forza and Halo coming out this year, I need some more hard drive/SSD space. I currently have a 120 GB SSD that my OS came installed on, and a 500GB that's a clone from my previous PC (which has it's own issues, like a 10GB "backup" partition I don't know how to remove, and an old Windows install on it that prevents me from taking full control of the drive). Both of these are pretty much totally full, yes I know I can delete stuff but I hate doing that, plus there's so many big games out now that even if I do I don't have room for a lot of stuff anyway.

What's a good 1TB (or more) SSD that won't break the bank? Is it worth buying a bigger regular hard drive instead? And what's the deal with M.2 stuff, is that even worth bothering? (my motherboard is old but does support M.2)

My first attempt at Dark Souls I got just past the Taurus(?) demon, and I felt like I was getting kind of okay at the basic combat. Started it from the beginning again today and I've died to the Asylum demon 5 times.

The asylum demon you either use firebombs to cheese or you ignore him until you revisit the starting area, if he's who I think he is.

Accurate enough in a lot of cases I've seen. Even if it is like half-and-half, any percentage still constitutes enough potential doxxing for you to not want fuck around with divulging your public IP.

Games make a lot of money. More than movies. More than sport. More than the two combined. And yet they get no focus in comparison to film and sports. It's a massive unexploited niche.

I didn’t do a lot of pvp so ds1’s big armor poise was my favorite.

Just no-selling boss swings and smacking them with my big dumb sword and chug an estus in the gaps.

The inability to do this in any other game is a major reason why I maintain that none of them is the best and each has their own strengths

There’s been such a focus on increasing combat pace and incentivizing lighter armor and more dodging in all their games recently, with Sekiro, Bloodborne, and DS3 all doing it

And I really wish they’d bring it back because it’s a play style that has just been straight up removed from those games

Which is fine for games that aren’t about having that choice, but in an RPG with build choices? C’monnnn

I played through all of DS1 and most of DS2 hiding behind my shield like a coward and I loved it

I picked up a Western Digital Blue 1TB drive early last year right before pandemic and have migrated my games over to it and its been running great. It was a good price/performance buy. It's not the fastest, but its fast enough.

Gave Rogue Legacy 2 a shot, don't think I'll be putting up with it long, I reckon I've played too much Dead Cells and Hades to enjoy it.

Besides the mega slick controls both of those games make you feel powerful and fierce as fuck pretty much all the time wheras Rogue Legacy 2 seems to be focused on kicking you straight in the pisshole pretty much all the time

First of all, any SSD is way, way better than platters, bigger gap than anything else unless we reach a point where games start demanding a certain access speed for ssd ->gpu (which what the consoles are doing for high performance at low cost)

Second, you need to figure out what slots you have available. Drives that connect through PCIe can be faster than those that connect through SATA, and the newest generations support PCIe 4.0, but your motherboard needs to have that too. Those are called M.2.

Third, your usecase. While premium SSDs exist that do significantly better at certain tasks (like staying at max read or write for very long, or having better long term reliability if you have constant writing), it's often overkill if you want your games to load fast.

Fourth, timing. PC parts are in huge flux right now. I bought a 1tb Samsung 980 for 20 bucks cheaper than today's price 3 weeks ago. Its a Rollercoaster.

That Samsung 980 is a fine midrange consumer, or a WD Blue. It should be around $100 for a 1tb m.2

The new Dark Alliance game looks... real dire

The presentation is there, which is fun because it uses the characters I read all the books about when I was thirteen, but everything else about it, from the structure to the UI to the moment-to-moment feel, just seems like it feels baaaaad

Then again I replayed the Demon Stone level with Drizzt in it over and over again and really liked that game despite it being a cut-rate Return of the King-style brawler, but I think my patience has worn a bit thin or my standards have risen since middle school, I don't know

I haven't read a Drizzt book in a long time either

You should be able to go into the advanced file options on that drive and change ownership of all the directories to your account on this new install and then it should let you modify the permissions and delete the bits you don't need.

Like I said, that didn't work. Dunno why.

Speaking of things being heavily controlled, Guilty Gear Strive got an update with an interesting change. The game has a bunch of lore text you can read all about the GG world/story. One entry concerning the status of various countries just got a big change, after review bombing and threats from Chinese players due to it mentioning Taiwan along with other Asian nations.
