[Warhammer], space or old world everyone needs hammers
Along with the humans, there are various flavors of evil and alien, but also maybe not evil?{human surprise!}
I could do twenty videos of faction intros, but you all know the armies. There's also like 300 books. The best are written by Dan Abnett, a person who has a old war officer ghost that haunts his writing space.
There's also a tabletop miniature game scene, and a bunch of video games, several fan made video series that are really good, and Games Workshop is slowly(very slowly, like years and years slowly) starting to get into the video market.
Space Marines: fight for a dogmatic empire that routinely oppresses its citizenry and is actively xenophobic, among other things. Assume this applies for whatever spinoff Imperium armies we have now
Sisters of Battle: see above, except even more religious, female, and on fire
Imperial Guard: see above, except less everything and if you try to run away you will be shot
Eldar: elves in spaces, with all the arrogance and xenophobia that implies
Dark Eldar: see above, but they actually want to commit horrible war crimes
Chaos Space Marines: worship one or more space satans
Chaos Daemons: are the space satans
Orks: want to fight everyone
Necros: want to kill everyone
Tyranids: want to eat everyone
Tau: once upon a time may have been ostensibly good, but GW likes to throw in spicy stuff like the caste system or forced sterilization
I used to be into "everyone is bad" but nowadays I find more enjoyment from seeing the good in all factions. ...maybe not the Dark Eldar. But I do enjoy the fact that the terrorisers of the galaxy are themselves in a constant state of terror of She Who Thirsts. It's not quite sympathy, but it adds some dimension to them.
Yeah, in 40K, it's not that people are evil, it's that the nature of their universe structurally rewards evil. Like, when the act of betrayal itself releases energy (into the warp), it's easy to expect the ambitious and the desperate to give into that path.
They got Guant's hair color right. In all of the book cover art they always made his hair dark, in the books he had light blonde hair. They got it right on the models I'm not used to 40k being consistent

And especially with Chaos, it's not Evil even if that is the majority of the depictions.

I think the forced sterilization stuff was only ever mentioned in a non-canon Dawn of War ending? I don't know that it's been brought up elsewhere. A lot of the more evil stuff with the Tau is more by implication than direct evidence, and I feel like after the leadership change at GW, the lore department tried to walk that back a bit, especially since a lot of people complained about them trying to push the Tau into being 'more dark'. I mean they're already an expansionist empire with a caste system that doesn't take no for an answer to "Would you like to join the Greater Good?" they were just much more reasonable over all, by comparison. And a lot of people (myself included) like it better that way.
I'm still hoping in vain I'll see a re-release of Battlefleet Gothic as a specialist game at some point.

As would I
BFG or whatever they will call it would be neat but with how they announced a new edition of Aeronautica Imperialis the general news was met with neat but I don't play it
So I feel that is one of the reasons why BFG like the new edition of horus heresy are just rumors
double edit: I've lived with these books for at least a decade. That's Kolea, Larkin, Rawne, Soric, Bragg
Have they actually named the models in the pic? Cause given how shaggy and dark-haired the guy on right is, instead of Soric I'd say it's more likely that's Colm Corbec.
Also, if the chainsword on Gaunt is any indicator that these depictions are circa the first book.
Well egg on my face. Thanks for looking up the names.

Man I really hope the new Swamp people from AoS are Fimir, or at least, have Fimir. Fimir are one of my favorite races in terms of aesthetic and uniqueness, and they do have Age of Sigmar rules, and are in Warhammer Total War and other games.

It drives me mad that this franchise has so few good video games when it is quite possibly the richest vein of potential video game goodness that could possibly exist.

This is probably a feet of one of them (same kind of swampy ruin base as the new Stormcast Angel-lady)
Fimir-ish but more toes than the FW Fimir models at least.
The thing it's standing on has vaguely celtic appearance as well, And the fimir have strong celtic theming

You have lots of options these days, total warhammer, vermintide, dawn of war, starcraft, warcraft...

They need to give the licence to a big AAA dev (say the team that made the metro series or hell, a COD dev) and let them make a big set-piece FPS.
Or DICE, to make a Battlefront style multiplayer game. Just not riddled with loot boxes that utterly kills the hype at launch.
GW has been recruiting quite a lot into their team that deals with using the IP as games. They've specifically been looking for someone to approach games developers to sell the IP so hopefully we'll start seeing more mainstream games.
Total War Warhammer has made massive amounts of money for GW and Creative Assembly so I'm surprised other big developers haven't wanted a piece.

I maintain, to this day, that Warhammer 40 000 : Eternal Crusade had the foundations (and most some of the structure) of a damn fine multiplayer shooter, but that it was beleaguered by not enough budget and devs who didn't quite know what they were doing. Not in the sense of incompetence, mind, but in the sense of what they wanted the final product to be. They marketed it as an MMO, for example.
one thing that i don't like about GW's video game efforts is that they tend to make everything look very "on model"
they don't really embrace the cooler and weird stuff that the universe has. if they need guard, it's just cadians. if they're doing an underhive game, then it's models and characters from the box, looking almost exactly the way they are painted on the website. the environments all look exactly like the terrain that you can purchase.
i just wish that the games got a bit more creative

I still think Space Marine was a great third person shooter and the multiplayer was a lot of fun to me.
It died, sadly, but the flood of DLC that came out allowing you to be so many of the traitor / loyalist legions in multiplayer just screams possible money makers for another developer to take a swing at it.
(I also think the first War for Cybertron Transformers game had amazing multiplayer, but anyways).

Someone also pointed out in the AoS reddit that Kragnos has a lot of the semi-Celtic themeing going on with his armor and equipment and the like that the Fimir have going for them.
I know I shouldn't get my hopes up or hype myself up too much but god I want there to be new Fimir in this new release.

I don't think EA or Activision are interested in putting AAA money behind a franchise that they don't own unless that franchise is huge, like Star Wars.
edit: they also wouldn't be interested in making a 40k game unless they could turn it into a Game as a Service on top of that.

Also, I don’t want EA anywhere near any properties I actually give a damn about, on principle.

40k is just too niche to get big funding, IMO.
Unless that Eisenhorn show gets made, they market it as "Game of Thrones in Space" and it takes off big, which I think is actually a possibility.
That doesn't necessarily mean more Space Marine media would automatically be in the pipeline though, for the simple reason that Space Marines don't fuck.
