Begging in academia

Might as well start this from the top.

I'm enrolled at the University of Manitoba and currently finishing up the fourth (hopefully last) year of my Philosophy BA.

From September to December '06 - that is, first semester of the '06/'07 year - I was studying at University College London. I thought I had all of the paperwork properly filled out and filed and everything, but as it turns out I didn't. From UCL's perspective, everything was fine; I was registered, my fees were paid. But it just so happens that I needed to have a Letter of Permission from the U of M. As far as I can tell, it is for their own record-keeping and transfer/conversion of grades purposes. To cut a long story short, I never got a Letter of Permission. Stupid, certainly, but there it is.

So now I'm in a position where I need to beg the Faculty of Arts to transfer my UCL credits even though I didn't follow the rules. Any advice as to how to proceed?

One complication right now is that I don't have a transcript from UCL either. They say they sent one to the U of M a while back, but I imagine that it would just have been tossed when it arrived, since there was nothing on file to explain where it came from or what it was all about. I have sent in an application for them to send me some, but only recently. They likely won't arrive for another month at the earliest.

At the end of the day, this isn't a hugely pressing issue yet; I have until the end of September to sort it all out and still graduate. However, the parents are getting antsy and they want progress right now.

What do I do?

You should be able to pay an extra fee, and get your transcript processing accelerated. That's a good starting poing.
