Other M definitely portrays Samus' power suit as being some kind of manifestation or projection, rather than a mechanical power armor like Iron Man's.
This seems to have started at least with Zero Mission. Aside from a story scene where it looks like she immediately vanishes her armor in ship, the death animation also features her armor just disappearing. In super, fusion, and even samus returns, the death scene instead has it blow off in pieces. (Not to mention the Prime games where she just plain seems to be dead while the suit remains intact.)
Fusion's story seemed to lean into the idea of it being a mechanical piece, what with parts of it being surgically removed and then adopted by the SA-X. So I wonder where they are going with that in Dread.
I do think there are high odds that the white-ish suit is actually depowered from the orange, since early gameplay seems to take place in it. That they will actually try to explain why Samus lost most of her abilities again.
To be fair on the death animations, I'm pretty sure that's just the developers saying "we wanna see girl Samus when she dies" - to the point that I remember reading that at one point in Super Metroid development they wanted to make her naked under the suit.... soooo... yeah, that's where their priorities were :P
The Zorg™ brand Replay System v2.0 is the last word in multiple target acquisition and tracking for all military and law enforcement needs. Ask your dealer for it by name!
I think it's because in the past the side bits that bulge out have been portrayed as like, breathing tubes usually sort of down along the jawline, but in this design they're a lot higher up, sort of along the cheekbone. Also interesting is that past helmet designs, when we could see through the visor, didn't have a nose/mouth cover internally. This one does.
So did they always mean for Kraid to be big and just didn't have the tech back then, or what?
????
And that's before he stands up fully!

Also noticed in the trailer very briefly a new purple suit. Gravity suit, maybe?
Also curious if any of these are real Chozo or just robots? At least one of them looks like a Torizo but the trailer moves so dang fast it's hard to tell.

Eh I think that stuff is from the opening. We've separately seen shots of her landing, starting down a long elevator, and now emerging from an elevator to greet [redacted], all in the orange suit. Meanwhile the first Emmi is encountered with the green shoulders. So this isn't some late game twist they are giving away.
On the other hand, when Samus's eyes snapped open in the face of the Warrior's arm cannon about to fire, she definitely still had pupils. Hm.

With Kraid back, I'm guessing it'll be a no brainer that some variant of Ridley has to be back also. Maybe it turns out the evil Chozo are cloning old enemies of Samus for some reason.

The only Metroid games without Ridley are Metroid 2 and Metroid Prime 2, right? So since Dread doesn't have a 2 in the title, Ridley's a given.

The original Metroid 2 didn't have it, but Samus Returns had him show up at the end to attempt to steal the Metroid hatchling.
So anyways, random theory on how things go at the end.
Final suit upgrade adds Metroid chitin layer. Mandatory final boss hyper mode involves you just absorbing any incoming energy attacks to refill health and Aeion gauge, and you get a Hyper Aeion Beam that just obliterates shit. You mow down all the EMMI robots (or all remaining ones) in a rampage as they prove unable to do anything against you (possibly a scene where one blasts you... only to get it absorbed and Samus returns the energy to destroy it).
To go more improbable, you end up tearing apart the Chozo asshole with this, and then after blowing all his armor off Samus just finishes him by draining him. The full suit-off ending scene shows Samus having picked up some bits of chitin on her skin. (I know, this is going into never going to happen territory, but it's fun to hypothesize)

To be fair it's not necessarily "Kraid" that's back, it could be another of the same species. I hope it just has a completely new name with no explanation or acknowledgement. Just...yeah it's a big alien thing and there isn't just one of them.

Well yeah, Samus Returns doesn't have a 2 in it, of course.

There was a picture leaked online of their true form, which confirms they are some kind of weird combination of Chozo and Torizo:

am I the only one feeling sad that Kraid is chained up like an animal?
Yeah, I find it instinctually revulsive to see an animal restrained that way. Usually it's either a wild animal in captivity, or a mistreated domesticated one.

I'm nearing the end in AM2R and I know most of you probably already know this, but wow, this game is incredible. It might have honestly cracked my top 3 favorites as far as metroid games go and it isn't even official.

From everything I've heard, the guy needs to find a way to put those skills to use and get paid. Granted, the issue is the industry is a hot mess.

Hey, spoiler that please! Some of us have seen the trailer, sure, but I imagine there's lots of people who would rather go in blind.

I really like how Samus is actively charging a blaster shot, and confidently standing without flinching where she knows he can't reach her.
She's practically cracking her knuckles and it is the absolute best.
Shouldn't she be cowering in fear????

No [that character] is very brave all things considered.
Edit: Kinda spoiled my own joke there but for the sake of others I guess.
I think this trailer answers why
Holy shit

My first thought was Macross, but this is better.
What does the red button do?
Pretty sure her visor is slowly morphing into this:
I know Zero Mission showed that there are little Kraidlings that you fight just like the one in the NES, but the main Kraid is a huge creature.
As for the trailer, that was awesome and I wish I hadn't watched it...but I'm weak.
