The board gets screwed up everynow and then but having been a good number of discussions about sessions I aggree with the descsion to keep it the way it is. I would like to see a "report post" button that would make any mods for that thread see the post with a red BG and have the containing thread highlighted on the viewforum.php, its much cleaner than trying to make a phpBB 2.2.x style mod-cp from scratch. This is a temp solution until 2.2.x comes out supposing you stick with phpBB.

Mods are well chosen and I respect them all. Now that art mods got revamped a bit thats closed some gaps. R7 is doing the ghost mod thing, and DrD covers well, but another mod in G&T might be worthwhile.

G&T IMO is the slowest reacting forum but its still well mod'd, it just takes a little longer. You and evander do a good job with linksville, it could be a pit of outwar and personal site plugs but it is well done. I would reccomend editing Evander's big rules thread and making a simple bulleted rule set that clearly says in addition to the SE rules (and provide a link) What he wrote is good but some people need it to be consise. Just prefix his posts with the list.

Banning works ok, maybe designing a system that uses a special cookie to ban the computer as well as the ip. Most people know that they can re-dial up\ release their cable ip and renew and get a new one. It would be tricky to install a never expiring ban cookie that would be used to ban the computer itself...

I still vote for splitting G&T into Games Forum and a Tech Forum, but thats just me :D

Uptime\Responsivness has been amazing, truely amazing given the population base and the hits. A good thing to note is regardless of how busy the forums get, the main site remains uneffected. Kudos to all the mods but especially Ramius for keeping the code on this nice and quick. I dont mean to sound like some brown-nosing ass but I know the time it takes to both create and maintain a site, let alone something this big.

Sorry I havent been online in a while, my dog has this fatal brain tumor thing and taking care of him and studying for finals is consuming my life right now.

I voted 'good', and I completely agree with Dynagrip's statements above. I also really like how each separate forum has a distinct personality. I know there's not much you can really do about this, but I don't like how we seem to be attracting more and more new trolls who have this incredible urge to keep returning.

I voted for good. I based it solely on SE++ because I do not go to the other forums. Responsiveness is good and bugs are few. The invalid session bug is a bit annoying sometimes. If my browser didn't save text when it leaves a page it would be much more annoying. I think a mod for the earlier mornings in SE++ wouldn't hurt though.

I use the SE and G&T forums. Everything runs smoothly for me, there's enough people around as that you can have decent conversations/arguments in a thread before it's hijacked, usually, especially in G&T, and I've learned to live with the Invalid Session error which is really a small price to pay for such an otherwise tightly organized board. And thusly PA forums get a "great" vote.

I voted Great, so far so good. Having been here from takeoff I can safely say I'm proud of how the transition from old board to new has gone (minus the interlude, but it didn't seem to be avoidable) I can't wait until we reach 1000 days. ;) I'll probably still be around too *eyeshift* Been here too long not to like it.

People there are just plain mean. To new people, to old people. Sometimes it is kidding, but other times I see honest to god hate and threats posted. I know SE++ is unique for being the one topic that allows this type of freedom, I just see it as a powder keg waiting to go off. And I say this as a forumer of SE++ that does get flamed and does flame as well. I may sound hypocritical even posting this. But you did ask for an opinion. This is mine.

Right thats it. I've had enough. You're behaviour on these forums since the moment you signed up has been A-FUCKING-BOMINABLE. You signed up with a stupid fucking attention whore name that you knew would cause trouble, start five stupid fucking attention whore threads an HOUR, make constant promises to change and NEVER DO. Do you know I get around three PMs a day asking me to sort you the fuck out? This shit is ridiculous. Pull your fucking head in or I'm going to pull it in for you, and I'm going to start pulling from the middle of your irritating pseudo intellectual sphincter.

I must admit, I'm puzzled as well. It looks like "The Mouse" has made a whopping 3 posts so far, with only one involving yelling at Shiosai. Maybe he wanted to post this on a different board. Or he's trolling, in which case he chose the perfect thread to do it...

how the boards look, features/bugs/annoyances in the code
I'm used to it. The Blue/Grey theme has been here for quite awhile now, and though reading white on a semi-light background can be hard on the eyes, I don't want to see it changed. The invalid_sessions are much better this time around, as is speed. The rest is pretty standard, though I must say the PM box is rather tiny. I can't exactly save messages for future use, and any long private conversations are flat out. Most people don't even know about private messages, so I'm not sure how limiting it all to 5 is really saving a lot of space.... especially with the constant pruning.

choice of who moderates / how the moderators/admin acts and their availability when needed
Some mods have problems keeping their distance from forum politics and inside jokes. Ramius, you do an excellent job, as does boddah, nads, r7x3, and whippy. Evander was beginning to cross the line, but since he's in EE now, he's a lot better. Grudges and ass kissing abound, but it's lighter than most boards. Honestly, with mods posting their creative blood and sweat, I'd watch the artist forum the closest for favoritism.

    ban policies
Fine. I think rules in SE++ need to be updated. They were created by an ex-mod, and frankly, I doubt many new comers are going to wade through the extraneous crap so I don't see them serving any use besides giving a post mortem proof of why someone was kicked. Artist rules are a great example of what to do, though I'd trim down that opening paragraph. Gets in the way of the actual rules.

Games need some rules, beyond "don't post warez." Members and PA Library are probably fine without them. EE is pretty good, but I'd remove the cross post to SE. Linksville could use a list -- no rules embedded in paragraphs.

General rule: if you can't gleen the most essential rules from a board in under 10 seconds, they need to be revised. It goes without saying they should be all contained within the first post in a "THESE ARE THE RULES" thread.

freedom to speak and act as you choose/suppression of spammers and trolls
Fine, as long as mods aren't subnet banning on the first ban. I don't know if this is the case, but with a forum so large, I could see that really fucking some people up. Otherwise, the general rules and what's considered a troll around here is good. Not many people are kicked from the boards who didn't have the intention of getting eventually kicked. That's good.

Locking is good, but mods should always put a reason why the topic was locked. Some don't, and they lose the chance to make an example. How are the members going to know how to change their ways? It discourages posting in general, and that's a no-no.

adequate forums/topics to meet your interests / overall entertainment value
So-so. EE would probably hold my attention more if I weren't so burnt out on politics. Board interest goes in cycles for me, and you just happened to catch me on the down swing. Plus side, I've had more fun posting in this thread than any other thread on the board in quite awhile.

Why? so they can take part in stupid forum in-jokes? It's not like posting on the forum takes any special skill or training. Odds are, if a person is going to be a decent poster, they'll be one from the start.

There are plenty of patient idiots out there. Also it's not like you could force them to actually read anything while they're not allowed to post. I'll grant you the sitewhores though. But we don't see all that much of that and it gives the mods something to do.

I'm in full agreement with Dyna here. If someone's an idiot, a few days of no posting isn't going to change that. Beyond some encouragement in the rules, you really can't make people lurk. Even then, half of the self-professed lurkers come on as the stereotypical newb anyway.

Brief segue here, but I imagine my experience is a lot like most new people's. I was guided to the forum by a newspost. A discussion on games as art, and I figured there'd be a post about it in the phorums. There was, and I posted. I stayed in that thread for awhile, lurking at other points, but generally just keeping to the topic I was interested in. So yeah, I lurked, but I was also posting. A bit of both, and I'd bet a lot of the quality posters you see around here are similar.

So, with that in mind, a waiting period probably would have kept me from posting here at all. The thread would've died, and I'd have no reason to post, no way to get to know people and decide to stick around. No one would know the great mtdew, and that would be unfortunate.

I like the idea of initial direction to the rules though. I'm not sure if it's done... I never signed up to this new forum as I was grandfathered in from the last one. But a welcome message in email (not PMs, since most people don't see that option) with some general rules that apply to all forums, and a brief description of each forum with links to thier rules thread and the mods that oversee them is a fantastic idea.

Ramius himself approved the rules, they DO help. We've only had about two or three "hi im new" threads in the past few weeks. Newbies have been reading them.

And as far as I'm concerned Shiosai should have been banned for his ass-headed MC raid. Maybe not IP banned, let him come back under another name and try to not be a dickhead, but definitely banned.

You wrote the first draft, but the final copy, if I remember correctly, was compiled from a lot of people's suggestions by Loser. So sorry. Should have said, "compiled by an ex-mod."

And you're right. We haven't had many "hi, I'm new threads."

But what about redundant threads, spoiler warnings, cross postings, and lurking? I haven't seen much improvement in any of those, honestly. Especially with that influx of Matrix threads which seemed to violate about every "rule" there is (save for the truly bannable offenses).

I voted good, but there are way too many dumbasses here, which proves that most casual gamers are in fact idiots(since they seem to be the ones that act the stupidest).

Personally, it feels like ther aren't enough moderators in G&T. With Dr. D being the only one(it seems) doing anything, and him not always being online, it seems like there are times when the forum goes unmoderated.

    Stupid people suck.... :)

Overall though, the boards are good. When moderators are around things are taken care of and most of the dumbasses get weeded out.
