I made it through in the end. It was one where you start in a building a get rushed from all sides, so the trick was to get the hell out of there to a corner of the map ASAP. This seemed to get me out of aggro range for half the spawns so I could mop them up individually once my corner was clear. That and not taking any mages who just feed more fire and rubble fuel to the coachmen. And remembering that archers can ignore armour with stealth.

I often forget that knives do double damage and auto-hit when flanking. Combine that with greyplane to ignore armor and you get a move that can save the day when something big is right on top of you.

Finished the first 5 chapter against the Morthagi and moving into the next one I’m liking this start where my legacy half bird and half bear warriors are a pre-existing gal team taking on a newbie.

Is there any loss condition related to letting armies smash up the place or are you just losing out on upgrade resources?

If every single main town gets knocked out you loose.

Also they can be good exp, at cost of more cards.

Ideas hate it when you anthropomorphize them

It can be superior to just build up defenses on tiles in the invasion path. If they exhaust themselves on defenses you even get +2 LP. If they trash a territory it really doesn't take long to rebuild, either. Actually fighting them is very risky...losing time to heroes having to recuperate is itself a problem when the clock is ticking.

I have mostly stopped fighting invasions unless they will hit an already damaged territory that will be rendered permanently useless. Even then, you usually have time to just fix the area before the enemy gets there, maybe throw up a defense or two. Then go about your business.

The Omenroad DLC is now available, an alternate roguelike mode of play that's just the tactical battles with some ascension and metaprogression, though there's also a story campaign set up for a similar conceit.
