Every accent is intelligible if it's close enough to something you're familiar with.

I had a Geordie manager in one job who had a friend, also Geordie, who would come into the pub and order drinks from me while putting on the thickest possible version of his accent just to watch me squirm because I absolutely could not decipher it.

most northern accents aren't the problem for english speakers (cept maybe yorkie and geordie and glaswegian if you go real north) but some of the dialects are absolutely bewildering to non-speakers

same with a lot of southern states or newfies

    That's Geordi.

The difference is that his name doesn't have an e on the end, like the word Geordie does.

The VO accents are, like, 50% of why Xenoblade Chronicles 1&2 are awesome. Catgirls being canonically Welsh is chefkiss.

They had boring American accents in X and this is why X is trash.

As is tradition I'm looking at old games I've not completed as we enter the Sales Season and I gotta say Afterparty is ... okay? I'm disappointed after how fun I found Oxenfree.

The hell is... just hell. I mean there are some jokes, but the basic thrust of it is just that it's hell. It's not like a Far Side weird punishments/weird people hell or a super dedicated to ironic punishments hell, it's 'haha the person who took too long at the coffee place is being eternally pierced with knives'. It's like they got halfway to making a joke and then decided against it.

The dialog is all a bit overly conversational, like everyone's trying really hard to make you understand they're actually totally chill. Which fair it's a weird situation but so much of feels like exposition delivered by an embarrassed person.

It isn't the worst or anything, but given that there's just not much to this sort of a game than the situation and dialog it's difficult to recommend.

The processor is ten years old after all.

They're more expensive but if you want a 3X series graphics card, I think prebuilds are the best bet.

However you've done well to get 10 years out of a CPU.

Where do the cool kids go to buy prebuilds these days anyway?

I will always laugh at reviews for Necromunda:Hired Gun claiming the game had “issues with voice acting audio being poorly recorded” and we’ll, no, that game has lots of issues but the audio was fine.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available to all Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on PC and iOS, go to http://www.xbox.com/play to play in your browser. You can stream a ton of games.
Also, the streaming servers are now powered by Series X hardware, instead of the One Ss they were before, so they should look and run better, and stream quality now goes up to 1080p60fps

Maybe they'll patch it up to make it entirely less clunky.

Interesting! I recall having a good time with Oxenfree. It's possible that the meandering dialog and relatively consequence-free nature of the gameplay worked a lot better for me when the setting was a mystery.

I looove it when I target an enemy, open fire, and then the game decides I've decided to try and figure out the last number ever and freeze for 3 seconds after I fire.

The bones of a good game are there, though.

Based on my experience with tough regional accents, I am pretty sure that in a lot of cases it’s less the accent and more that just some people don’t move their gosh danged mouth or tongue at all when they “talk”

(I’m not bitter at all that I got moved to the region of Japan known for the most difficult accent, with a whopping one semester of college Japanese under my belt at all, why do you ask? (Though it was fun eventually learning Japanese that made me unintelligible to most of the rest of the country))

since it's been a bit warm here lately(relatively speaking- high 80s is hot for here) I was looking into making improving the air circulation in my tower. there was some cover on it that I thought might be serving some purpose until I pulled the thing off and found that the reason they could stick it on there is because there are no intake fans. I... should get one. At the very least having that part open instead of closed will help reduce the temp?

Depends on how your case is designed, but often cases work best as closed as they can be.

The idea is pull cool air in through the front and pump hot air out through the back, more or less, and the case all closed up is typically designed to ensure that flow occurs.

So, I guess is what I am saying is without really knowing your case it’s hard for me to say if having that part open or not is hurting or helping cooling.

    Woooo non committal non answers!

I liked Afterparty well enough, though I’ve never played Oxenfree. I thought the conceit of “hell is just a job, and after work everybody just goes to the bar to relax until the next workday starts” was… ok enough. It didn’t feel like some brand new take on hell, but it also didn’t fall flat for me.

A thing I am retroactively appreciating about Afterparty is that I always knew what I was doing next. I recently tried playing a bit of Grim Fandango (having never played it before the Xbox Remaster) and I’m sure glad I’m playing this in an age where guides and walkthroughs exist, because in the short time I’ve played I’ve gotten mixed up about what to do next a few times.

the cover was on the front, so I currently have no front intake coming in. it's interesting how virtually no mass market pcs are designed with this in mind! for my entire life computers have had gaudy plastic shit covering the front.

now I do a little research and it all says have front intake fans to bring in cool air. right now I have one intake/exhaust fan in the entire tower

I have this case, and one of the things that makes me happy about is that it has a removable cover for the front intakes, and under that cover it has a dust screen that magnetically attached and can be taken out for cleaning.

So I have the radiator for my liquid cooler on the front, which does double duty of pulling in air to cool the radiator, and acting as the intake, and then another standalone fan to blow exhaust out the top (which is the only 1 fan the case came with).

I tried really hard to get into They are Billions, because all the cool units and mechs I saw in trailers. But I tried the basic starting mission like 7 times in the easiest difficulty and just could not do it. There was no way to have enough units and also defend the area, and every time some random zombie popped up behind my walls and I would have to try and get my few units back to attack it before it cascaded into an instant failure drove me nuts, let alone when the eventual horde would come and have a million more units than I could ever hope to defend against

Like I’m sure there are strategies and ways to do it but if after like half a dozen goes I can’t even beat the tutorial mission the game is not for me

They definitely use some kind of voodoo to make this work. If you have a decent internet connection runs really well on tablets, and they are adding more touch screen support to games (if you don't have a bluetooth controller). Friends tell me it easily beats out Stadia performance wise.

There was a Linus Tech Tips video a while back on this topic. Clearly not universally true, your internals affect the results, but the most bang for the buck was one fan in front and one on top. Additional subsequent fans helped, but you hit diminishing returns fast, so unless you're overclocking or going for a quiet case (lots of slow fans) you're good with two.

Far Cry 5 update: I am slightly impressed by the number of different names for bull testicles they used. I don't think they repeated a name once in that whole quest chain. Also I am curious where the cult obtained an entire air wing worth of WW2 fighter planes.

This was pretty much beat for beat my experience with this game. I could never figure out if the game is just weighted too heavily towards difficult stuff, or if I'm way worse at the game than I thought. And it's a shame cause it's a neat premise.
