The game had this flow that would build-up as you explored and developed a region and looked for more places to exploit for the benefit of your community community or unlock the next dungeon
But it had this weird feeling of giving you feedback from the communities you developed so that by the time you finished finished it was a montage made out of these regions and the lives you help your people live
It also looks like they incorporated the tower defense from the reboot or maybe that was a sequel? The original had a rather flat gameplay gameplay line. so some diversity is welcome
Cherub dude might become a meme depending on how annoying he becomes

Did they bring back Yuzo Koshiro for the soundtrack?

Actraiser is one of my favorite SNES games I never got to play on the actual SNES.
So, each area proceeds in two Acts: Act 1 is going down to a new area and engaging in a side-scrolling stage with a boss at the end., then you build up a civilization in the area you've just freed from the monsters. You do this by pointing the general direction you want the people to build (the people might take their sweet time getting there, though), which means new houses, more population, more people worshiping you (you're a god), and eventually them building towards and taking out monster spawning points to make the land safe. At a certain point midway through each god-game area, something happens that means you need to go down to the area again and clear another stage and its boss; this is the second Act of each area, after which you can successfully finish building up each area. Using god powers to clear old, less good buildings will make way for new, better buildings, which is important because the more population you have, the more you level up, the better items and health and mana you have down in the side-scrolling stages. So being nitpicky about having the best stuff in each area before moving on will net you more overall power to take on the Acts themselves.
It's the weirdest combo of action stage game and god-game I've ever played and if I ever actually make games it's one of the games I'd steal liberally from because it's just that much fun to me. Along with SoulBlazer and Terranigma, it's part of that era of games that tried mashing civilization building and action gaming together. Dark Cloud is one of the few "modern" games that did even close to the kinds of things those games did (though Actraiser gives less control over the nitty gritty of the civ building aspect and SoulBlazer/Terranigma is more hands on).

I'm probably getting old but the part of my brain that was proud to have a 2400 baud modem back in the day is yelling "1.8 GB for a card game demo!? WTF!?".
... and of course it took all of 2 minutes to download so there's no actual point in complaining.
The art style was nice, but the gameplay in the demo was clunky at best
That's disappointing. It's one of the games that's been on my wishlist the longest and one I actually remember adding because of Steam Thread hype. Got an email saying it had released, I was surprised to see no traction in the thread over it but I guess that would explain things. It's on game pass so I'll give it some love and see how it pans out.
Giving you the best weapon in the game just before the final boss so all the ones you've been using you can toss in the garbage is a choice. As is making the big baddie come out of nowhere 15 minutes earlier, and a final boss that literally comes out of nowhere.
But I enjoyed it. I think? I'll forget about it in a week probably.

OMG! Actraiser was one of my most favorite SNES games that I did play on the SNES. I loved that game.
I'm totally in for the reboot. But do I do PC or Switch....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I double-dipped on a fair few games (mainly indies and retro, always on sale) on my Switch that I already had on Steam. Then Valve went and announced the Deck... yeah, I felt a bit silly then.

I mean, they announced the deck but my Switch is right there.
Then again, I never use it in handheld mode. Like, I think I've used it less than ten times total in handheld mode.

@Pixelated Pixie made me cry.
Thank You for Crysis: Maximum Remaster Edition! It is always fun to smash soldiers through corrugated metal shacks or be the Predator with cloaking!

Sometimes the game lighting cooperates.
Sometimes it does not.
... and sometimes you try to take a pic and just get a dumb expression. >.>
One dorky Ryder and one annoying salarian.
Also couldn't resist a pic of this doofus's crazy orange hair.

Conversely, not having achievements is a huge plus in my book. But as long as people are buying the game, who cares where they get it.

I feel like I should elaborate on why this is such a Big Deal.
Shikigami 2 isn't just the best game in the series(and it is), it also has a great story that was infamously butchered thusly:
It's actually getting a proper translation now, and it deserves it:
@Viking sent me Oregon! Thanks! Now I can go to Washington.
Thanks!
Wait. Why would anyone want to go to Washington?
I just opened the store to reward this move by Sega and Relic with a purchase, and found the game already hanging out in my library.
Alright, then. Installing. See you in the grimdark future.
I ask myself that question every day.
