It's hard to say. All join dates have been reset over later forum iterations. Mine is the only one that the archeologist dug up and placed on display.

EDIT: It was Penny-Arcade Year 2, so there's a good chance that someone other than Gabe and Tycho are still around from Year one.

My account says 2003, but I could have sworn I first started posting in 2002. Maybe I just think that because I started reading the comic in 2002, who knows?

I feel like I have probably been posting since around then if not under this account. I can recall that homepage at least!

Edit: The most terrifying thing I can imagine is to be forced to read all of my posts from the beginning.

I think I remember that homepage or a similar one slightly later. Probably 02 to 04.

I first started reading the comic after a bit on tech TV where leo Laporte was showing a computer program to aggregate webcomics and mentioned in passing that penny arcade was one not suitable for kids. So I being a teen, immediately looked it up .

could also be because the forums went fully down for a period of time in there. iirc it was in august/september of 2002, or thereabouts. they didn't come back officially (there was a succession of ezboards in the interrim) until, I want to say, spring of 2003.

That sounds familiar, could be what happened. Regardless, I've spent close to half of my life on these forums.

I have a very firm grasp on when WoW came out because that was my freshman year of college and I spent way too much time on it

My join date is more impressive than it should be. I signed up as a freshman in college with my own debit card for the first time intending to join the original iteration of Club PA.

Naturally, that was shut down like 2 or 3 weeks later. Then I proceeded to not post until I landed my first job out of college in 2007.

Man, I do not remember that website layout at all, even though I know I was seeing it multiple times a week.

Back in 2000? 2001ish? I would print out the previous days comic and post it on my dad's white board in his classroom. He is a high school math teacher, and he had one board with a section dedicated kind of as a fun community area where you could post stuff or write messages within reason. Basically an actual in person message board, before the digital equivalent became so ubiquitous.

So it collected all kinds of wacky stuff like Weekly World News articles with names replaced with teachers names, sports results clippings for bragging rights, Homestar Runner shit, etc. I got into the habit of posting the PA comic. Definitely also remember signing up for, then pretty quickly noping out of those old school forums. "Oh, this is probably way not appropriate to be reading on my dads work computer."
