Ender Lilies is feeling much better, unsurprisingly, after getting more movement tech. Currently ride or die with hammer lady.

Rogue Legacy just makes me wish I was playing Dead Cells. I'll take bad humor in exchange for tight controls.

Got to the castle in Ender Lilies and read the first note.

Ah, yes, I am sure these actions ended well.

Hmm is Demon's Crest a metroidvania? I say yes.

I would too. Fuck me that game was hard though, but so so cool

Demon's Crest is one of those games that gets way easier as you play it an unlock more abilities.

And then you get to the final boss fights and whoops get dunked on scrub

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Lucca is the best game mechanic though, for my money.

it's more the difficulty/lack of options when it comes to souls-esque metroidvanias

i want to be able to explore and find shit all the time and be a god by the time i get to the end boss. apparently in ender lilies getting to level 100 just means you'll last slightly longer against higher level enemies

i just don't have a fun time with "keep dying but learning each time" games; i don't get to play games as much as i'd like so when i do i wanna accomplish something, not just do the same bit for 20 minutes

don't make me choose slots, just give me all the powers and let me wreck shit up

You might like Vigil in that case. Only thing Souls-like about it is the tone of the story-telling. It has difficulty options and you can break the game wide open with certain items and spells. My only problems with it were the map being a little too big, and some uneven boss difficulty. It also doesn't have the fun, wild move tech of Metroids/Igavanias unfortunately.

Ender Lilies sounds interesting but for some reason it doesn’t seem to be available on the PS Store in Europe. Doesn’t even have a release date. Weird.

Uh huh. I didn’t say otherwise. Just informing people that when you said “respawn” it doesn’t mean they reappear every time you change screens.

Up to Chapter 5 in Ender Lillies. I'm liking the game but need to adjust to its slow combat pace. My dodges are typically too early so I keep taking facefulls of damage.

    yeah, same

that combined with attacks stopping your movement + different attacks having different speeds (and waiting for the attack animation to end before you can dodge), i get wrecked if i have to fight more than one enemy at a time pretty often

Just encountered a weird bug in Ender Lilies. I beat a boss and died at the same moment, and the game got stuck in slow-mo mode.

It didn't give me credit for the kill, but fighting the boss in slow-mo did let me frame-perfect it, which fixed the bug, too.

Annnnnnd 100% done. Some of the hidden item locations required ridiculous use of movement mechanics and few locations I looked up because they were, from what I could tell, in the middle of nowhere that you would only see by jumping into space, but it worked out in the end. I liked Ender Lilies a lot!

I literally did the same a couple minutes ago and really agree. It may have been a bit more brutal than it needed to be (though I'd say it's far, far easier than Hollow Knight) and the way stuff was hidden was really annoying. But I also liked it a lot. Ultimately the main star was the art direction and mood. Otherwise it hued really close to standard metroidvania formula, though the way spirits were used was a cool enough change. But hey, add it to the pile as yet another real nice metroidvania.

I started playing Monster Sanctuary which is kind of like if a Metroidvania had a baby with Pokémon.

The combat is 100% Pokemon with turn based commands but the exploration is 100% Metroidvania.

Add in leveling and skill trees and equipment for every monster you collect and you’ve got a ROBUST game

I was lucky enough at one point to have worked just one office down from a guy who previously had worked on Prime and got to tell him what a delightful little touch it was to see the face reflect off the inside of the visor now and then if a bright flash went off nearby.
