I'm not sure which of Bloodsport's exasperated moments was funnier.

    "We're all gonna die"
    "I hope so"
    "Fuckin' hell..."

    or

    "What's with the javelin?"
"I'm waiting for God to tell me"
    "Jesus Christ..."

    or

    dangling from his failing grappling hook;
"Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. Oh... FUCK OFF"

    Oh brilliant

yeah but nanaue is based off Hawaiian mythology and is a Hawaiian name, and it'd be bad casting if it wasn't a cgi/voice over character so i don't think it should get a pass just because it's a cgi shark

there was (rightful) backlash for emma stone's casting in aloha, i feel weird going "yeah, stallone!" at this

I don't disagree, I'm saying that they plugged Stallone into that role because he's a good name on a poster, not necessarily because he was good for the role.

Maybe they could have gotten Jason Momoa. King Shark is in Aquaman's wheelhouse as well, which would be kind of cute.

(I wonder if there's any shot of King Shark showing up in Aquaman 2?)

Could have had Taylor Wily voice King Shark.

Could have had King Shark tell all of the Suicide Squad about the great options at Subway.

Okay but now I'm kind of imagining King Shark doing a Bubba Gump "shrimp" cooking, but with all the Fantastic Options available at Your Local Subway^(TM). Still the Stallone voice, or maybe something with a Polynesian.

Just saw it, A+. It really did feel like a live adaptation of the first few John Ostrander arcs. I still have the individual issues. It had the guardians of the Galaxy flare for the dramatic, but also captured the absurdity and the humor was really on point. My theater cracked up at the squad massacring the friendly rebels. The action was frantic and chunky, the person who did Bloodsports sound design for his guns is a genius. Peacemaker rode the fine line between being hateable asshole and an entertaining one.

Also Harley being moved to tears by Flagg going back for her was too awww. Especially given what happens to him just a few hours later.

It's a little weird in retrospect, I'm pretty sure Harley didn't get any sorta reaction scene to Flagg's death?

You cannot tell me that Stallone having a laugh at himself and being a big dumb shark that learns to have friends wasn't a great arc.

King shark is a joke character. The serious addition to his backstory came later. He is functionally the same as Weasel. Except, you know, he's more useful to the team because he's a giant shark.

If they had referred to him as King Shark all movie and didn’t specifically talk about his backstory I MIGHT agree with you.

But they clearly spoke about who he is and they used his VERY Hawaiian sounding name throughout the movie so he was absolutely a Hawaiian demigod being voiced by a white dude

I suppose, but I thought much like Vin Diesel as Groot, I thought it was more of a joke about who they did cast, then who they didn't.

On that note, there's been a few versions of Bloodsport, what was the backstory for the explanation on the guns for this one? The one I'm familiar with had a gun teleporter, but this one I like better.

it was very much stunt casting like vin diesel as groot

but groot is a space tree made up for comic books with no tie to existing cultures and Nanaue is the name of a Hawaiian mythological shark man, which king shark is based off of

i was shocked when they announced stallone was voicing him considering the all the recastings of white people voicing non-white characters last year

Wasn't he like Ultimate Thor where that was supposed to be a delusion on King Shark's part until they actually dropped the twist of it being real?

I could be wrong here but I think you’re getting your Marvel and DC characters mixed up.

    Don't blame me, blame Wikipedia.
Born in Hawaii, Nanaue is a humanoid shark. His father is "The King of All Sharks"—also known as the Shark God.[3] Originally there were some doubts surrounding his origins, as other characters, such as special agent Sam Makoa, dismissed his origins as superstition and referred to Nanaue as a "savage mutation" and it was also implied that he was one of the "Wild Men", evolved animals based on those in Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth, but the now-ended Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis series put an end to the controversy by firmly establishing him as the Shark God's son.

I wasn't sure if Boomerang was actually dead? The last shot of his hand was upright holding the boomerang, like he was about to climb out.

Also Weasel is alive and grossed me out.

I appreciate Amanda Waller casually summing up King Shark as may or may not be a Hawaiian deity.

I am in the business of saving lives.

The arm is completely melted is what it is.

Granted, I've only watched the movie once, but IIRC he went through a helicopter blade food processor.
    On camera.
I feel like we saw chunks (but I could be misremembering on that count).

I don't know how much deader a comic book character can get.

Even if that's true, he just wrote a child idiot character for Stallone to voice, I'm not buying it beyond like, "This stupid stuff would be fun to have Stallone say"
