This is where I realize that I don't think I've ever seen Idris Elba in something where he was using his actual accent.

Its just been Norse gods, cyborgs, aliens, supervillains, and his most sympathetic role, hating Jim Halpert.

You ain't seen Luther? Idris as a 'ard man detective, but like, with all the consequences that would actually arise from that.

Gets a bit silly in later series, but it's good stuff overall.

    Oh brilliant

Jesus Christ, Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn.

My wife and I decided after this she joins the pantheon alongside Ryan Reynolds and RDJ. Hugh Jackman may be up there, too, but he also did enough other movies over the same period that there's still a Hugh Jackman outside of Wolverine.

But Robbie, Reynolds, and Downey are those characters. You could tell me Wolf of Wall street was a secret Harley Quinn prequel and I'd believe it.

It's wild to me how much of this movie stands on the shoulders of BoP. Like if someone told me this was Cathy Yan's next project I'd not have been at all surprised

If I didn't know this was a James Gunn production, by the time I had seen Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, & Sean Gunn that would have given away the ballgame.

    Yeah I suppose there's a few giveaways.

Also I didn't even realize that was Nathan fillion while watching until it was pointed out. Shame on me

I don't know if it was intentional, but it still works.

You know how people in the PC game thread have been talking about lines they repeat in real life?

Every time I'm in the grocery store it is a struggle not to say "Meat. Meat, meat, meat, meat, meat." while putting meat into my cart.

And, I mean, sometimes I manage to not do it.

I did enjoy how extremally not Nathan Fillion TDK was. More people should let Nathon Fillion play taciturn, unpleasant characters.

Both Fillion and Rooker played a bit against type for the brief amount of screentime they had.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I mean, Rooker played against type for about three seconds, really, the whole lead up to that was, "here is MIchael Rooker, he is a badass that takes no shit" right up until they pulled the rug out from under it at the very end

Also kudos on doing the Deadpool 2 X-Force joke, but way way better.

Just saw this. Good movie. Nanaue and Ratcatcher are my favorites.

Bloodsport's rat phobia was the best gag.

I'm honestly a bit confused by all the praise I see for Nanaue. It felt very generically dumb monster character to me.

(Also I'm still a bit salty about Stallone playing an ostensibly Hawaiian character, although admittedly the characterization given wouldn't be particularly great either)

Stallone was 100% just stunt casting, that voice role could have been played by basically anyone

Anyway Nanaue was kind of endearing and I really liked his childlike tantrum when they dismissed his disguise idea

You mean like Vin Diesel as Groot?

Actually, now that I think about it, is it just me or do Gunn's interpretations of Groot and King Shark bear a lot of similarities? Big lumbering CGI characters with childlike demeanors and limited vocabulary voiced by famous actors? They're not identical of course, but they're closer than I had realized at the time.

They are similar enough that I thought for sure he was gonna bite it by the end.

One hundred percent yes, even moreso in Groot's case because while Shark King's voice is still sort of recognizable as Stallone, Groot is just distorted to the point where it may as well be Mr. Sbaitso providing the voice acting

I felt like King Shark was very Groot, but I also felt that Peacemaker sounded a lot like Starlord in tone. Like, I could easily imagine Quill saying a lot of Peacemaker's lines.
