hm, good to know. my brother suggested going with their default modem as a way to try to break myself out of my current inertia/indecision loop (can't switch over until I've gotten my own hardware, which requires deciding exactly what I want, ordering it and waiting for it to arrive ... which I never get around to), but maybe...?
If you want the fastest internet and they are the only choice rent the router and modem until you get your own and then replace them and have Comcast drop the rental price.

Our Comcast works fine when it works, but infuriatingly about every other to every third day at some random point it just decides to stop working for about 3min. It always comes back up again pretty quick, but it's proven pretty costly in several gaming situations.
