Here is an odd duck of a game. The crosses were removed in the U.S. version because God forbid we upset the religious people. The Dark World in the game is supposed to be hell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Pucelle:_Tactics
Oh sheesh, I remember buying that game at EB Games. I pronounced it the correct way. The cashier had no idea what I was asking for so I just said, lah pooch-call-eee and the guy said, "Oh yeah, I know that game" and grabbed it from the back. Wonder if I still have that game in the closet.
Yeah. I think I have it in a box from when I packed some of my games up.
Once I finish Disgaea 2 I plan on going through all of the PS2 games from Nippon Ichi. Going to see if they are all as grindy as Disgaea, which I think will be the case.

Plot twist: they are.
Wait, that's not a plot twist. They actually are. Buckle up.

I think the switch has somehow spoiled me. Went back to play DQ8 on 3ds. Just cannot do it. Same thing with xenoblade. My brain just rejects low res blurry 3d now.
Yet on the other hand, I can play any random sprite based 2d snes game blown up to pixelly on a 60 inch tv no problem. Hybrid games like ds dragon quests don’t bother me either.
I enjoy my switch, but still regularly go back to the 3DS. Graphics never seem to bother me. I actually find a lot of the old blurry 3D graphics charming in a way. I actually just started playing through the original Bravely Default.
PS1-N64 era 3D is hard for me to look at, but a side-order of nostalgia can make it bearable. Which is why I can still enjoy Mario 64, but not Perfect Dark. As such, original DS games are iffy to me. Nintendo does a pretty good job at understanding their own platforms limitations. Some devs were smart enough to just keep making 2D games for it.
3DS looks fine to me though. 2D or 3D. I still use mine semi-regularly, when I don't feel like lugging around the comically oversized Switch.
You would not think so, but there are groups in the U.S. that will rain hell on a developer if a game is seen to be religiously transgressive.
I wonder if Bethesda and Bioware have got in trouble. Also, Wizards of the Coast with the recent Avernus campaign.
What did Bethesda and Bioware have? I can’t remember anything about religion in their games that wasn’t pretty far into “crystal dragon Jesus“ territory.
There are a few games that reference general Judeo Christian cosmology (which itself is mostly glossed over in the actual Bible) like Diablo or Darksiders, but in these games and in media in general it is usually generalized and the entire Jesus/New testament thing other than Revelations is totally ignored.

My son and I played some TMNT 3 on the NES together last weekend. Had a blast. I forgot how well the NES actually handled an arcade like TMNT game back in the day considering it's limitations.

Well you got the templars persecuting people in Dragon Age. Elder Scrolls borrows it mythology from allot of religions and has numerous devils and gods. It is not directly referring to Christianity, but they do allot of stuff that would upset them.
There is also a fair amount of cult behavior and necromancy in Elder Scrolls.

The only thing that bothers me really is bad framerate. This is why re-playing the original Star Fox even way back in 2004 was nearly impossible for me.
Really, the N64 should have not filtered the textures. It made things worse. They should have just left them blocky like on the PlayStation.
Filtering works best on textures in the distance.
It was kind of funny. The PlayStation handled textures better and it was older hardware. The PlayStation had that jiggly problem with rendering polygons.
I was trying to get an official copy of the Activision Atari games. https://youtu.be/ZRAaXjq-3_k
I don't know, maybe it would have been better to get the PS2 version and run it in an emulator.
I will see how well joysticks work with it.
You definitely get the impression that the world does not care about this. There is nothing about anyone trying to get this to work in Win10 on Google.

Hmm, wonder why I never knew this one existed. Activision was my all time favorite game company on the Atari 2600. I have so many patches from their games. For those who don't know, in their manuals they had a goal you had to reach in the game. You take a photo of it, send it with a self-addressed stamped envelope and they would send you a patch of the game art.
Oh my. They even made the game in a GBA cartridge? Hmm...

The PC version of it has the most games in it. The PS2 version is missing Freeway. The portable versions are missing more games and the extra stuff.
Ah ok. I'd want the PC version then since I can't live without Freeway. Although I still have my cartridge and working 2600s (two of them) if I wanted to play it again.

I guess it is all on one CD Rom. It looks like the video clips of the interview and commercials are not that great quality. I assume the games and the program are pretty small. So it probably fits on one cd pretty easily.
I assume the video clips are the same quality as the ones on the PS2.

I'll have to see if I can dig them out of my Mom's house when we go over next time. Well that is if I remember where they are...
It looks like you can win virtual versions of the patches in the Anthology. There is a bulletin board for them.
This seems pretty neat. You even have some licensed 80s music in a tape deck.
I just hope this runs in Win10 or I will have to run it in PCem.
That Ice Hockey commercial really shows you how old Phil Hartman was when he was on SNL. He was no spring chicken.
Correction: The PS2 version is missing Bloody Human Freeway. I guess it is a homebrew. Freeway is on there.
The PC version has some prototypes and homebrews on it as well.

Seeing some reports that folks' Xbox Dev Mode accounts are getting suspended for not publishing a game for 90 days, so if part of the reason you were thinking about getting an Xbox Series console was for retroarch, that might not really be a thing anymore.
It kind of looks like they upscaled the textures on Racer for the PS4. They seem fairly clean. They did not create new textures.
It seems less janky than on the PC. There is also a Switch version. https://youtu.be/Ee5XsCkyv1M

I picked it up on Switch a little while back. It's a good fit for the platform and runs well, nice port and still great fun - and yeah, less UI jank than on PC.

Crystal Dynamics made some pretty memorable stuff. I always liked the Pandemonium games. They did some oddball stuff like Blazing Dragons and Akuji.
Of course, they did the later incarnations of Tomb Raider.
Apparently, they did not do Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Here is the extra stuff. Commercials and interviews.
I lucked out and found a sealed copy.

Playing Ultima 3 and KQ3 on the old tandy was some of my first gaming experiences.
I do know of a way of getting it that is somewhat suspect.
Edit: You unlock them somehow.

Yes you can also get it in the Space Quest Collection on steam. Just use newest Scummvm instead of what it downloads with the collection.
