You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment!
See, I would normally agree with this but seriously, wtf is Intelligent Systems doing? Three Houses did insanely well... I was expecting a new game announcement like a year ago... I actually think I will be disappointed if something isn't announced here. (Not really, but I will at least be confused on what's taking them so long :P)

No, they must be working on Fire Emblems at all times! :P
If they're still on the FE remake train, then Genealogy is the next likely one, and it'd be nice to get that officially in english. Though I think that's in a weird spot, because if you know and want Genealogy, then you likely already know about "The Thing", and the surprise of "The Thing" is like half of what made the game interesting in the first place. Oh well, still be nice to have eventually.

There's leaks around (some from the Nintendo website!) for the upcoming direct, so be careful if you want to avoid them! Or go looking for them if you want, I guess. I'm personally staying off of twitter until the Direct.
Okay, if I'm timezoning right, that sounds like midnight to me. Pretty late there. Thankfully tomorrow is a holiday or I might be a touch cross.
Yeah, it'll be exactly midnight around here. So I can watch the Direct and suffer a massive headache tomorrow or get some sleep and watch the Direct first thing tomorrow without suffering a massive headache.
You know, in my younger years, this might have been a tough choice. But only an ironclad leak that definitely confirms they'll be announced an XCX port and/or sequel is gonna make me stay up that late.
That's an absolutely insane amount of shitty penny games and asset flips.
Nintendo needs to get that crap under control.
I mean, the September directs are usually pretty big so this isn't necessarily the *only* big announcement. Honestly I was expecting Kirby anyways since they've actually been hyping the shit out of the game in interviews for awhile now ("This is going to be the best Kirby game" or something along those lines.. they seem stupid excited for it).
And yes, Switch is a super dumping ground for asset flip garbage. It's been a problem for awhile. I dunno how Nintendo solves that without being kind of stand-offish which might scare away legit indie devs (like obviously not the big ones, but maybe brand new ones who might have a cool game but have no past exposure, etc).
I like (as in, still do) N64 controllers. I thought they were pretty comfortable when you knew that for most every game, the left handle may as well be cut off. I think a lot of third part versions basically did that.
Honestly, the N64 controller made a ton of sense when you think that the designers figured games would generally use either the stick or the d-pad but not both.
In a "normal" controller configuration, either the D-pad will be in the comfortable spot and the stick will require more reaching, or viceversa. This becomes annoying in games that make no use of one of them. The N64 simply went "you know what, fuck it, different holding patterns for each of those so that you can have an equally decent grip in either even if it makes the controller look silly". And you know what, respect for the attempt.
Yup, I still can't use Dualshock/sense for very long because of how far in the left analog is located. It's amazing they haven't swapped it yet.
A lot of people prefer it (I am not one) and I guess it's become as synonymous with PlayStation controllers as the symbols on the buttons.
I much prefer the asymmetrical layout, preferably Xbox style. So I got one of these for my PS4.
Worth it. Feels not far off first party level of quality either, despite being no-name brand (literally, there is no brand on it). It was delisted from Amazon UK altogether not long after I got it... very unusual. 🤔

On topic, I am thrilled for Nintendo to finally announce a 2D Metroid compilation for the Switch today.

Looks like Baldur’s Gate collection, Neverwinter Nights, and Planescape Torment / Icewind Dale are all on sale on the Switch. Anyone play them?
Yes!
I had a good time with Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale on Switch. I did everything that is possible to do in both of them. I also beat The Black Pits 1 (pretty short). I got started on Siege of Dragonspear and petered out partway through before I made it to BG2. I want to get back to it someday. I think I couldn't get through Siege because generally Beamdog's newly created content for these games is...is not very good.
They are adapted well for the controller, the new direct control method is great, no clicking, you just move everyone at once with the stick. Also I know they're old games but load time is almost magical, you can be on the Switch main menu and hammer the A button a bit and have your game loaded and be playing in less than 10 seconds, no joke. And performance is good. The Baldur's Gate collection in particular is a TON of hours of content in one package.
However, they are not without bugs. Lots of little things that add up. For example, if you begin casting a spell but then use the new direct joystick movement, everyone is forced to move, the spell is canceled but still consumed. It's not like when you're clicking and it says "you cannot move at this time." For this reason I switched to manual control a lot. There are rare audio glitches where sounds get stuck echoing repeatedly. There may be a memory leak that eventually crashes your game if you play it for more than 6 hours straight (easy to avoid). One severe bug is that if you're ever looking at level 9 mage spells in the spellbook, but then switch over to looking at the cleric spellbook, the game always crashes because level 9 spells do not exist for clerics.
Icewind Dale was buggier than Baldur's Gate. ALL sequencer-type spells that let you pre-cast spells and then cast them at once later will lock up the game. Many sidequests where you give somebody an item to have them turn it into a magical piece of equipment cause the game to lock up, so you can just never get those items.
I reported all of these to them and more (here, if you want to see videos of the Icewind Dale bugs). And while I understand Beamdog is a smaller company, the games have been out for two years with no patches in sight, no announcements or anything. I think it costs money to patch on consoles too, so it's probably their last priority, if ever.
It's up to you if portable Baldur's Gate still sounds worth it. I got my money's worth, they're still great games. Most sessions of playing BG you won't encounter any significant bugs (IWD, less so). I didn't play through BG2 or Planescape so I can't say whether either of these games are more crippled.
Whatever you do, don't get Neverwinter Nights on any console, it's a bad port everywhere. Poor performance on Switch. No multiplayer on either PS or XBox, I forget which. And no patch to resolve these things.
Above all else the controller UI for NWN is just atrocious. Stick to PC, any old potato with integrated graphics will run it just fine. (Really, that's true for all the Beamdog games...)

I'll be a bit bummed if that's this directs major announcement, but what can ya do?
I'm happy enough to be getting Dread, I wasn't expecting to ever see a wholly new 2D Metroid game again, so I don't have too much to complain about.
Mind you, I'll still complain about no new Xeno-game news (XC2 was 4 years ago!), but I mean, that's just a given.
