I really wish they'd worked out porting Banjo Kazooie on the Wii U, so that it could've been on the Virtual Console. The lack of an easy way to own the game digitally without an Xbox system is frustrating.
I'm lucky enough to have a copy of the two games and a working N64, but that's an option less and less people are gonna have as time goes on.
Still pretty salty about no Virtual Console on Switch. That was one of the best things that the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U had.
I was kicking myself I didn't get the Banjo games when I worked in Game, this was at a time when Nintendo games appeared at random. For example, I never saw any Zelda game for sale anywhere until I randomly found Link's Awakening 3 years after release.

do you have a death trap setup? like a pit with a thin layer of lava for multiple mobs? Wire up the stuff from the jungle temple to shoot spikes and stuff at other mobs? Do you have heart lantern and star lantern and campfire and honey to stand in?

So I just played through and beat Azure Striker Gunvolt 1 and 2. I'll be playing through Luminous Avenger after this.
Very fun games. The stories are kinda nonsense, but in a fun way. What I do know is they are really fun and make me really want Capcom to finally give us a new Mega Man X game.
Might be useful for folks here too, the new Pokemon game is out in the wild.
Full leaks will be floating around very soon. just as a heads up for both folks seeking that and folks trying to avoid it.
I found Pokemon Sword to be aggressively dull, but the chatter around Pokemon Legends:Arceus is making me think about it.
I passed on sword/shield because usually I get games after they come out, but I did pre order Arceus.
I just had the question of since I did pre order it, but they did not take the money? when do they? I never pre ordered a game on the switch so the whole process seems off to me.
If anyone is into rad sci-fi hero-focused pixel art and slick animation (think: GBA Fire Emblem sprites); an interesting timeline-based RPG battle system that relies on staggering enemies and lots of "checking each attack result beforehand" attention to detail; roguelike progression and character class unlocks via card-based party relationship building; and really addictive "one more battle" gameplay... I highly, highly recommend Star Renegades.
The art appealed to me a lot when this came out, but I didn't pick it up because it launched on Switch with significant technical issues. They've been resolved now (I've had a few crashes, but I've never lost any progress whatsoever, because the game saves constantly during battle) - and I've been playing this shit nonstop. I put in 30 hours over a few days, and I can't get enough. Criminally underrated, and there's a content roadmap for more new stuff to come. I'm obsessed.
You ever find a game that is just... so your shit? SteamWorld Quest and Dicey Dungeons were both that for me to a big extent, but Star Renegades is next-level in terms of appealing to my tastes.
Star Renegades is pretty fun, but runs are loooooong. I won my first three runs or so, and felt like I had seen most of what the game had to offer gameplay wise, but I had not unlocked all of the characters, and only had like three variant characters (out of dozens). The between-runs progression is basically nothing, is what I'm saying.
Fun game, if you like that art style and the gameplay mechanic of pushing enemies back on the timeline so they don't get to act, give it a try.
They will use and abuse the switch online program all they can
Its really telling that you hear a lot of raving about Game Pass on gaming podcasts like Giant Bomb and Get Played (Nick and Matt are very enthusiastic about it and will bring up that the praise is not sponsored content half jokingly) and from individual users and forums like this.
Nintendo Switch Online though? Fucking laughing stock. Deservedly so too. Its like Nintendo doesn't even hold its own IP and history in high regard, just trading off of it at a premium price with half assed offerings. Its baffling. Nintendo could put together a service that isn't just formideable to Game Pass but would trounce it rather handidly, if they cared enough to put in the investment and effort to actually do so. And I'll continue to pay for the basic service for online Mario Kart snd Diablo and the like, but its hard to feel good about it or genuine enthusiasm for it.
If Majora's Mask got a quality port that fixed up all the issues that game has had when emulated over the years, that would be something worth praising. But literally no one expects them to do that, it will come out a broken mess and people will just shrug helplessly as Nintendo does real damage to the legacy of one of their classic titles.
I’m going on a fairly long flight this year (20 hours or so), my seat has a power icon online and so I assume it can charge devices, even if probably slowly. I’m mainly wondering do I need to buy a specific USB cable for this or anything like that? Just generally i mean, I realise there’s probably some variance here. I’m assuming I do have to. Also just also any advice for plane travel with the switch if anyone has some. any recommended budget headphones? I’d rather comfort over audio quality
Yeah people said Ocarina of Time was a "broken mess" and I was able to play it just fine so I'm not really sure what people are complaining about with it. Yes I've seen the videos that told me I was wrong for enjoying it lol.
At this point we have all of the classic Zelda games on the service and I think that's pretty rad.

when it says power, you should confirm if it has an outlet or just a usb port... a plane USB port will likely not have enough oomph to charge the switch during play (it will drip charge it, but eventually the switch will run down). if its a power outlet, then any usb c power delivery charger should be plenty (or just bring your switch charger, but that's cumbersome). failing all that, an external battery that can do power to the switch works as well.
as for headphones, get something like kbears or kzed IEMs, they're around USD $20 and will plug up your ears and help drown out the plane noise while being wired to the switch.

Also, power plugs on a plane are often a crapshoot and often are broken. So, hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

the complaint is that they could be doing so much better with the assets that they already have
Actually I don't really have the energy to get dogpiled on today. I know my opinion is unpopular so I'll just keep it to myself. Sorry for bringing it up!

Majora's Mask is a much harder port than Ocarina due to the Expansion pack requirement and some other elements of design. The Wii U version was quite bad or so I hear. You might feel differently about this particular game, if they foul it up.

I'll definitely give it a shot. I bought the 3DS version but never got very far... I don't really enjoy portable games all that much. I also played it at release but could never beat it so now is my time to shine!

Pre covid my switch flight adapter of choice was an official Google pixel charger that plugged right into an airplane's two-pronged outlet (when available).

Disco Elysium on Switch is very playable, turns out! Having a great time. Frame rate isn't super stable, but I don't think that matters a whole lot for a book, so...
Less acceptable is that it crashes. I'm maybe 5 hours in, and it's crashed about 5 times, most I've seen on the Switch. Considering the whole temptation to reroll decisions or see other choices play out, it's a rather large bummer whenever it happens. The autosave is very infrequent too, so you can lose a lot of progress.

How are the Castlevania collections on Switch? Any reason to grab them on PS4/5 instead?
Advance Collection was how I spent my Christmas break, they run great and having them portable is _excellent._
I'm honestly kinda desperate for a DS Collection now. Could probably just put the second screen on a pause menu for the most part, since if I recall they basically use it for the map and some touchpad shenanigans, but it requires more than just throwing it in a stable emulator, so I don't know if they'll ever find the resources to do what is effectively a remaster.

The the D&D remasters are all down to $9.99, it's an all time low. I never played them on PC, how are they and are they decent/playable comfortably handheld?
