I'd joke about wanting it to get stuck again because it was hilarious last time, but honestly so much of my online shopping got fucked because of it that I'd rather it not happen again lol
I mean I literally work in the importing industry and our shipments are currently delayed by like 4 months already but yeah, I'm real sorry about the paper towels you ordered.
Did y'all know that there's a worldwide shipping container and fucking shipping pallet shortage right now? Containers are coming out of China, but there's nothing to put in them for the return journey and it's too expensive to send empty containers so they're just hanging out.
What I'm saying is if you're planning on buying people gifts for the holidays this year do it now.
Legit question: What did we used to put in the containers before? My whole life, I've heard about these mythical trade imbalances, but it just seems weird that empty containers are piling up somewhere.. and it makes me wonder how this was solved in the past. Was it a case where empty containers were shipped back, and now they aren't because it isn't worth the cost?
So unless I missed a step it has been basically impounded in a lake in the center of the canal this whole time so that Egypt (?) could extort / fine the owners. So it's not "going through" again, it's just finally actually leaving.
I thought it did that a month or two ago? I remember hearing it was moving / released.
According to this Reuters article it left the canal and arrived in Rotterdam in late July. It then went to Felixstowe, England, earlier this month. It's now making the trip back through the canal on its way to Singapore.

Raw materials and food mostly, but there was unusual excess of containers left over from the run on masks and other medical supplies earlier in the pandemic.
