Hawkeye is the first of these series so far that looks both competently shot (like an actual movie) and doesn't require you to switch your brain off or get engaged in discussions where people try to explain the writer's lack of talent in creating a coherent storyline. Turns out the secret is hiring people with any experience whatsoever.

Liking the two episodes put out.
The suit sidestory was very contrived, Clint is an Avenger, you're telling me he couldn't leap through the flames and grab it? Eh. But it led to some humanizing for him at least. And maybe cast someone who doesn't look default evil as the stepdad? I'm going to guess the twist is that he's an OK dude in actuality and Kate has to learn that her mom is allowed to move on. Otherwise it's very on the nose. I'm sure someone will tell me there are real plays like that out there but the idea of making a play about an invasion where lots of people died, starring a bunch of dead heroes, seems like it would be highly inappropriate in real life.

I mean, they made a movie out of United 93 that came out only 5 years after the event. I think the problem here is that it's tacky, not that they did it at all.

With a sympathetic German no less. Often considered one of the all time great comedies. And then there's M*A*S*H, in which the Korean War lasted like 18 years.

That said, show is very good in the first two episodes.

I am hugely impressed with Hawkeye so far. All the characters are fun. I’m so glad that the trailers were misleading regarding his delays getting home.
The trailers played it off as the tired "tell lies and excuses to your spouse while they get progressively angrier" trope. Making her unhappy but understanding, and knowing things like the names for different tactics, is so much better.

Loved hawkeye so far, but quick question re: What If.

I watched the first couple and lost interest. Does something happen in the show that makes it likely important to the overal MCU stuff? If so, I’ll get back to it. If not, I’ll be in no rush.

I have high confidence that no animated content will ever be important to overall continuity of live-action content. It is very much the one-way street we saw with Agents of SHIELD and the like.

    Hawkeye is live action.

But it’s still Hawkeye, who has never been exactly “important” in the MCU

The question was about "What If," not Hawkeye. The outcome of Hawkeye (specifically, Kate) will surely remain significant to other properties. I don't think you can say that for animated stuff.

This still feels remarkably different from the previous live action stuff. Compare and contrast Daredevil's opening which feels too embarrassed to reference the giant alien attack outside one sheepish mention of "The Incident" ... to Hawkeye which literally opens with the giant alien attack.

Ah, sorry, missed that. But yeah, it’s absolutely right in the main continuity and all, but at the end of the series I doubt there will be much beyond a 2 sentence summary that anyone needs to know to be all caught up in the MCU. Same as Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

One of the things I think they've done well with Clint as a character is play to the fact that he's not a super hero. He doesn't have a secret identity. He's a SHIELD agent. His wife knows what he does, probably more so than would normally be the case, since Fury arranged for the family to live on the Barton Farm as a security measure. He's literally a family man, and probably has one of the healthiest households of any of the Avengers.

Also, is anyone else expecting Grills the LARPing fire fighter to show up later as an unexpected, clutch ally?

Just watched the first episode and you know what I hate?

THE FACT THAT THERE ISN'T AN OPTION TO WATCH THE CREDITS ON dISNEY+!

Like at a certain point it minimizes the credits to a small picture in picture on the screen and when I try to select it it returns to the same screen immediately.

The more streaming services I subscribe to, the more I appreciate Netflix's simple watch credits button. And its Exit Netflix button on the side menu? After trying to leave HBO max by clicking backwards a dozen times never knowing if this will be the one click that does it?

Show was okay, will see episode 2 before any real judgement.

I will say that it was a good decision for them to release the first two episodes right away, the first episode does a lot of setup but it's really the second episode that hooked me. I absolutely loved the Tracksuit Mafia and you don't really get a feel for who they are until episode 2.

Yeah, after seeing the posters, the opening credits or any of the other promo stuff, David Aja should absolutely be getting a producing credit or something for this.

You could block out character silhouettes and anyone passingly familiar would say "Oh, it's Hawkguy!"

Maybe it's just my imagination but it felt like there were definitely a few scenes where you could feel the covid impact. Just like scenes that seemed weirdly edited together, were missing transition shots, the logic didn't quite flow. "I have to go get that suit... OK lets go I'll get the suit later", or that transition from when they're inside to walking around on the street talking about Hawkguy's brand.

I'm not usually nitpicky about adaptations and I didn't think I was gonna be about this one buuut I think I'm just too attached to the Hawkeye comic to have any idea of how well these scenes work for those who haven't read the comic. I did enjoy the 2 eps we got, my only real complaint is the pacing feels a bit slow in some scenes. The scenes with clint and kate together flow much better than a lot of the solo stuff.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

I laughed at the urinal joke. I had to explain it to my wife.

"No see its the worst when you go to pee at an empty urinal area and a dude moves up right next to you despite there being plenty of space."

Two episodes were adorable. I did like how Clint was up front with his wife, but that makes sense because of that family dynamic. Also damn Vera Farmiga like damn you get it girl.

I really liked the humanizing of Clint.

The way he zoned out when it got to the Natasha part of the musical. When he goes out to get fresh air and squats down, he groans in pain. He's deaf or at least got permanent hearing damage and has no idea which crazy thing caused it.

This guy was keeping up in engagements with a Norse God, a rage monster, dudes in flying power armour, super soldiers and other crazy nonsense and even fought against them. And all he had was a leather vest and a bow. Not to mention his global murder spree against organized crime with just a sword. Also was mind controlled at one point by an Infinity Stone.

This guy would have serious, long lasting mental trauma and physical injuries, and they showed it, or at least touched on it. I liked that.

It helps that Jeremy Renner sells Clint well. Like I'd buy him legit giving the larper guy a win just because it makes that guys day, but doing it by grumbling about going toe to toe with thanos was great.
