Yeah, I have 3 different characters chilling there. Rogue, Acolyte, and my Primalist I wanted to wait for the Shaman info on. Pretty excited for the week!

Got my Acolyte chilling at the mastery guy, so all set for Wednesday
Won't you need to make a new character for the cycle?
Do cycles matter atm for anything other than leaderboard? I keep hearing conflicting information from all the videos/articles. Just watched Raxx's video and he says you need it for the factions, but watched another video that said the first few cycles are all going to be in legacy too.
Yeah just for leaderboards and playing with others in the cycle. Unless something has changed that I missed, there is no "cycle unique content", unlike other ARPGs. Should be able to do all of the same stuff.
Heh and of course top question is servers, which makes sense! They gave an at length response last night apprently:
We’ve scale tested for months with third parties, consultants, the help of infra providers, and our own backend team. We have the ability to scale servers quickly, have reserved a large amount of bare metal machines, and do not have a maximum spend for cloud overflow- it’s all elastic. From the extensive testing we’ve done, unless we do have a really crazy turnout, we should be stable. It’s not lost on us that many much larger companies than us have had issues at launch though... We’re optimistic and if there are issues it certainly won’t be for lack of effort, spend, or ignorance to the importance of launch day.
If we do have issues I promise that we’ll stay very communicative and you can be 100% certain we’ll be all hands on deck working to resolve anything that comes up. We understand what’s on the line.
I will say that this is probably the most stressing thing to the team as we’ve seen games be review bombed and eviscerated when there are launch issues. I remember being frustrated when games I was excited for had launch issues in the past, but now being on the other side of it I’ve seen how much of an emotional toll it can take on a team to face hatred for something that they have tried hard to prepare for but it not be received/gone well despite best efforts. Just in general I think it’s a good thing for the gaming community to understand the impact those types of things have on development teams. That’s not me asking for leniency for our team, just rather an insight I feel worth sharing for gamers in general.
Another thing I’ll share because it’s interesting and something I didn’t understand before being in game development (before LE) - it’s nearly never the game servers that have issues at launch as those are easy to scale as long as you have the funds and willingness to pay the server providers (typically Google or Amazon), it’s more often an issue with services like login/authentication/database rate limiting. We use Steam and other services that are battle tested at scale for these things.
But, in summary, we’ve prepared heavily and have every reason to suspect we’ll be in good shape come launch day. If there are issues we’ll be communicative and working to address anything that comes up immediately.
That AMA has revealed to me that the story isn't finished apparently. I am displeased. I also didn't see anything about reaching skill parity with all the classes. Now I'm sad.
I hope it stays up! But "crazy turn out" is highly probable at this point. This is modern gaming after all. That and insufferable types attacking infrastructure that is common these days too.
Keep in mind, they did add a full offline mode for 1.0, so even if the servers die, that doesn't mean you can't play. It just means you need to tell Steam to launch in fully offline mode and then play.

It will be completely different characters though, in case that's not obvious. It's cool to have but if the servers are down, the server-using among us will still be out of luck since progress and items won't be shared between the two.

This is completely for me but I have no interest in offline mode. None. I play these games for the online integration.

That's fine, I have no interest in online mode. I find online integration to constantly be the worst part of these games.

Yeah understood. I am really looking forward into jumping into their trading system. It will be nice to play an ARPG with a well thought out one that doesnt hate the player. The game is fun and I am wanting to see if the 1.0 jump is as big as they said it would be. There was some pretty janky things that irked me but they "said" was fixed in closed patch heh. Some simple things too like the ability to take an ability off your bar.
I don't remember about taking off your bar, but if you click on the icon on the bar you could set any ability you had access to into that place. I did it early on while testing whether an ability that had both passive and active effects had to be set on my bar to get the passive effect (it did).

So I went ahead and bought the game rather than waiting until tomorrow to see if there was a pyre of flame coming from their server farm or not, so I haven't been keeping track. Upthread it as mentioned that not all the rogue skills are complete, is that still true for the 1.0 update or just for the early access period? I was planning on doing the usual rogue first gameplay, but paladin will probably get made pretty quick as well.

You can still play the class and have a blast if you're into their skills, they just have a few less than the other classes in total.
Ultimately it just means instead if picking between like 12 different main attack skills you're picking from like 10. You can respec in this game but not completely freely -- so it largely isn't a big deal if you like what you see now. If you want to switch your build up entirely at end game you're probably rolling a new character anyways.
But yeah they have less total skill options than other classes in 1.0. You're not less powerful, just less skills to choose from to build around.

The exception here is skills that proc other skills will generally use your invested and modified skill regardless of its status on the hot bar (unless specifically mentioned otherwise). I've made builds in the past that didn't direct cast one of my invested skills meaning I could use an uninvested traversal skill in its place.
Is there a point to installing the game now, or should I wait until tomorrow
If you have fast internet might as well wait, but if your internet is slow installing now and getting the patch tomorrow should be faster. I know I'll just wait until 1.0 goes live to install. Their servers are already down so either way you can't play until the patch.
Played for the first time yesterday. Liked what I saw. Glad I saw in this thread they're changing the Acolyte voice.
I'm just waiting to find out tomorrow that they poached the Witch voice actress from PoE for her, which will vault their sales numbers to untold heights.
The dynamic lightning they highlighted, “scene variants” I think?, is reeeeally cool. Playing early on I felt like the echoes were too similar, and little touches like that can go a long way.
There’s also been a handful of additions and improvements since I last played, so I’m hyped and ready to get back into it.
Warlock because I'm pretty sure two of those skills matches my preferences for satisfying spells to aim, i.e. a cone (with the option for a weird moving cone mode) and a cursor-targetting aoe bombardment?
Falconer for 2h rogue that isn't a hobbled meme of a character? Though I might still hobble it by using a sword instead of a spear...
The harvest+minion build I was dabbling with quite a while back and enjoying?
Worth noting that if you mean Chaos bolts and Ghostflame, I’m pretty sure those are the first two skills you get from the warlock tree itself, which means that Necromancer and Lich can also use them.
I got curious about running Chaos Bolts as a Lich but haven’t had time to explore the idea. Plus, I’m also kinda interested in the fissure and that’s lock-only for sure.
I played this for like 12 hours yesterday. I can definitely see why it's got the hype.
I'm a level 51 or something beastmaster primalist and I still didn't know I could put points into other trees/skills, I just couldn't get the second half of their talents I guess?
I've been enjoying this 'menagerie' playstyle of a wolf, raptor, scorp, and bear. I also got lucky(?) and got the gloves that spawn bee when you hit. And I also got the chest piece where your pets have like a +50% chance to bleed and bleeds last 100% longer. Which apparently the bees count as.
Only issue is that I got that drop at like level 20 or something lol and so I was feeling preeeeetty fragile and less secure in my ability to walk in and bonk to give aspect of the shark to all my friends.
I will be at work, alas. But sending all my energy to fortify the servers and I wish everyone well who gets to start at launch.
Now I have to stop slacking and figure out what class I'm rolling for 1.0. Had some builds I really enjoyed that I could get deeper into, or maybe new stuff....
Tooooday is the greeeatest. Day ive ever knoooown.
Lets go Last Epochers. Reminder my ingame name is CorriganX so if anyone wants to friend me you have to let me know to friend you back. Lets hope everything doesnt burn down and we get to have some fun.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Whatever you all choose to play try to stay away from build guides etc if you are new. The game is like most other ARPGs in that you can clear pretty much all content with "unoptimized" builds. The game lets you customize your build as good as any other in the genre really. And it doesnt have layers of seemingly unneeded complexity on top of it. It is a fun game. Of course this is a big IMO heh.
I probably wont be able to play at all till the weekend anyway so have fun storming the castle.
I agree with that- experimenting works especially well here.
You get lots of skills to try very easily (just swap on hotbar) and then specialize into the ones you are enjoying. If you want to change specialization, the new skill will get a bunch of points right away instead of starting at 0. And if you try a node in a skill tree and don’t like it, you can back it out and earn the point back in less time than it originally took.
Yeah unless you're very ARPG novice there's really no reason to build guide.
Just follow the general RPG rule of trying to focus on one type of damage and stack modifiers for that (unless of course you're playing a skill that specifically cycles damage types). If you like lighting things on fire, stack a bunch of ignite, fire damage over time, and fire mods. The only way to feel wimpy is to try to use like 5 different damage types at once and going super jack-of-all trades.
The tooltips are very good and won't drive you insane like PoE's do. You don't need an out of game tool or a 20 page forum discussion to figure out what mods affect the skill you're using. Aand respeccing is pretty easy and forgiving early on.
I had the shower thought of “oh, this is playing diablo in Chrono Trigger,” and in the AMA yesterday they said that was one of their main inspirations. So uh, nailed that brief I guess!

Oh definitely. It has lots of Chrono Trigger references, and I love it. Pretty early game spoilers -- I think you're already there from what you said with being ready to pick your ascension class:
The main hub area is The End of Time, overseen by an old man named Gaspar (aka the Guru of Time in Chrono Trigger)
