Oh it’s today? And you can unlock your mastery after chapter 2 now?

Probably try something new up to that point then either stick to it or switch back to my stalled out forge guard. They even just got buffed a bit.

Ah nice, I didn't see the mastery change. That's a good one! It was unlocking around level 25 before -- the notes say the end of chapter 3 is about the same level as before after their adjustments, sooo looks like we'll get it around 20 or before now. Also item linking in chat wooh.

Probably the biggest change on my end is they increased the frequency of the "special" echoes that are unique to individual types of monoliths. Should make target farming certain stuff easier now, which is always nice. Excited for the Weaver Uniques too!

Heh and most importantly: a patch that doesn't nerf every single build I've enjoyed in the previous patch! None of them, actually. A very refreshing change from PoE.

How, uh, rated "M" is this game? Ok for a 9-year-old?

I'm surprised it is rated M to be honest. I haven't seen anything shocking really.

Feels like there is minimal blood/gore. Diablo 2 remake seems more mature than this game. I haven't noticed any foul language or sexual themes either.

To be fair, I'm usually playing while watching TV so it's a pretty mindless interaction for me.

He's been watching us play PoE, but I think that game is just too punishing for him. I don't need to babysit two builds (his and mine), and he'll just be frustrated he can't just slam on every new unique he finds and see what happens.

D4 I think will def be too "M"-rated (also expensive, geez), so I want to keep an eye on this one. If it goes on sale (or 1.0) I might pop it for the whole fam.

There's some blood every now and again, but nothing too terrible. A few boss fights can get a bit crazy though.

definitely some kinks to work out in this patch. The main hubs are super laggy to enter or leave. I got stuck trying to teleport back for a quest turn in, wouldnt load after a minute so just exited out. I'll give it a few hours to hopefully get fixed up. I really like the new intro thing.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't have picked it for an M rated game before hearing that.

I looked it up, aaand yeah it's more or less not an M rated game when you look at what's actually in it. The developers just went for M because they didn't want to worry about it with any future content plans:

    hz807eug4wlp.png

The blood is less noticeable than even PoE, there's no sexual elements I can recall at all, and I don't remember any real swearing aside from maybe like a "Damn!" throughout the campaign.

So I skimmed the OP, but is there anything quick/off the cuff I should know or do as a total newcomer to this? I played each class for ~20-30 minutes just to get a feel for the early game flow and decided to stick with Primalist for now - the thorn totem + ice spell thingy seem pretty solid starting out. I've played way too many hours of D3 but basically haven't looked up anything about the mechanics for this specifically.

Nah there's not much you can do to permanently mess yourself up.

The only permanent choices are your base class and specialist class. So once you pick shaman or druid or beastmaster (at the end of chapter 2 now apparently!) you're locked into that.

The game is really really good at explaining mechanics in game. You can hold alt on most tooltips to get a more detailed explanation of specific mechanics

Respeccing your passive skills is super cheap and easy. Respeccing your active skills causes you to lose some skill levels, but it's typically not mega painful to get them back (and at high levels takes like 15 minutes to fully boost them back to full).

The biggest thing is that crafting is really good! Pick up all of those shards. The game will give you a little intro, but you can make good gear early on by just adding one or two fairly common traits.

Once you get to mid levels you may try to pick up a loot filter, as they're super useful and particularly as you start crafting more.

the crafting thing was actually one thing I wasn't totally sure on. it seems like I need some kind of materials on top of the shards? I'm only level 10 atm so I'm not sure if that's something I can start collecting yet

is it worth it to throw those into good yellow items, or should I be holding off for uniques? should I hold on to uniques after I've leveled out of them?

So you can't craft on uniques or set items(except for some high tier stuff but it uses a totally different system so don't worry about that too much -- unrelated to the shards)

You can craft on anything else. Every item has capacity to fit 2 prefixes and 2 suffixes, so 4 mods total (barring again high tier fancy end game stuff).

You only need the shards to craft, and they're not broken out to like level tiers. So a shard of health will work on a level 1 item or a level 90 item. The other items you're talking about are utility crafting items that modify the craft or do special stuff, but they're not required. You can use a glyph when you craft that, say, causes a mod to be randomly re rolled when you craft it, but you can craft without one. Runes do different stuff like removing mods or re rolling the value of mods.

One craft gives you one tier - higher tiers give you more bonuses and require higher levels.

Basically, most shards are pretty common and you don't need to save them for fancy items. Stuff like resistances, health, mana. You will eventually get fancier stuff like bonus skill levels that are more rare, and will probably want to save them for cooler stuff you find.

The basic crafting loop is just "find cool item on ground, make it cooler by tossing a useful stat on it". If you find a belt with bonus cold damage that seems like an upgrade, hey toss some health on it as it's a common shard and always useful.

You also will find "runes of shattering" fairly often, and every vendor sells at least one. Those let you destroy an item and harvest some of its mods as shards for later use. If you use fireball and find an item with +1 to fireball but everything else on it sucks, pick it up and shatter it. You have a chance to get the valuable fireball mod to then craft on a better base.

I messed around with the new patch last night -- just ran some echoes so I haven't tried out the new chapter 1.

It seemed like they had the lag stuff under control, as I didn't notice anything weird in towns or while running echoes.

The new ambush echo objective is cool though! Straightforward, but pretty much exactly what you want in an ARPG. You kill lots of stuff, once you kill enough stuff it spawns a big pack with a boss to kill which completes the echo. I also managed to get the greater frostbite blessing from empowered monoliths, so woooh more cold DoTs.

The lag stuff is under control because they turned off the new stuff they added. No shared towns or linking in chat yet lol. When I tried to play earlier yesterday I couldn't get any of my characters to load in at all, and the new one I made couldn't get into the new town they added. Even now zone transitions are taking a lot longer than they were before.

Lol that's fair. I did see people saying they disabled linking of items in chat, before I disabled global chat due to it being horrible and stupid.

Oh hey on that note, new Chapter 1 maybe also bugged. Haven't tried it myself, but there are lots of people verifying that there's a common bug that messes up finishing Chapter 1 right now.

It sounds easy enough to check if you have the bug as soon as you make a new character though, and not every new character has the bug. Sooo if anyone makes a new character, do this as soon as you start (stolen from reddit):
If you character is higher than level one or has passive points to allocate then your character is bugged
If you press escape and it says chapter one on the screen then you should be fine. If it says chapter two or later then your character is bugged
If you have made it into the ruined era and have access to a way point in the ruined era then your character should be fine

Most crafting materials are pretty abundant so you don’t really need to worry about wasting them; it’s worth using them as you level just to get a handle on how the system works.

There are a couple relatively rare runes and glyphs but nothing you can’t afford to waste a bunch of

hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

    Hello, fellow Travellers.

I hear there may be renewed interest in Diablo Trigger, given recent internet events in the genre.

This game is fun, so you've made a good decision. Early access, but feels fairly "complete" I would say (I'm definitely excited for the upcoming classes and hinted at end game expansions though!)

If anyone wants to do some multiplayer, feel free to give me a shout! Fiatil in game and on Steam. I'm always up to roll silly alts, and I have a couple characters in monoliths and empowered monoliths too for end game stuff.

Dammit, that's not the one I wanted! Where's my goddamn falconer? Or at least the rest of the rogue's skills, she feels lacking in build diversity compared to the other 2 mastery classes.

Now that it’s announced… gimme the deets!

Their site still just has this:
A savant who tamed the power of raw arcane, weaving its chaos with the art of runes. The Runemaster infuses magic into offensive and protective wards that devastate those who trespass them, ensnaring his foes, raising walls and golems at his whim.

Sounds trap-like, maybe? And golems are usually fun. I wasn’t too excited about the mage but that does sound cool.

0.9.2 Patch notes are out and this is a huge update!
    https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/runes-of-power-beta-0-9-2-patch-notes/60471

Biggest headline: the third Mage mastery, Runemaster, is finally in the game!
    https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/introducing-the-runemaster-coming-in-runes-of-power/60436
Playstyle: likes to mix up and match elemental damage, and the mastery skill is called Runic Invocation. Whenever you cast an elemental skill it pops up a little symbol over your head and depending on which of up to 3 symbols (they push off to the right and disappear if you cast more than 3 things) you have when you cast the Invocation determines the spell effect, so one combo may be a giant aoe fire burst, and another may be a rotating beam of each of the three elements (see attached video)
    https://forum.lastepoch.com/uploads/default/original/2X/7/7957b0ddc4eab37b309aa4740a61e71fa2389bce.mp4

There are also some new uniques (Runemaster specific and also ones for other classes), some visualization overhauls (including new rigging and armor for the Rogue). Also towns have been switched on and bug reporting can now be done in-game rather than having to post on their website.
    https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/updated-visuals-quality-of-life-and-items-coming-in-runes-of-power/60446

New loot pinatas to find: the addition of one-shot caches (a la Grim Dawn) and "personal items" during leveling which are hand-crafted items that drop in the one-shot chests. These have some unique and powerful abilities and are intended to be solid leveling gear for certain classes/builds, but they have no crafting potential. Monoliths have a similar thing, called a Lost Cache which is a randomly spawned chest that has some good stuff in it, and items are usually themed around the type and quality of cache you find (the example being a thief's cache may have jewelry, daggers and ranged weapons, while an explorer's cache would have dungeon keys).
    https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/one-shot-and-lost-caches-coming-in-runes-of-power/60450

New things to do while exploring: Rune prisons, which are little miniboss events that can spawn in leveling and end-game. It has an Exiled Mage that will be hostile to everything (players and monsters) and can drop Experimental Items, which are items that have special affixes that don't drop as affixes and can't be shattered or removed in the crafting screen. In higher difficulties the mages may also drop glyphs that give you a chance to seal the experimental affix so you can craft a new affix in its place (giving you 5 affixes on an item).

Anyone mess around with lightning? Most everyone seems to be that ice fingers thing.

I am messing around with stacking crit CD based invocation built around ignite and it seems fun so far. Not as much dmg as I would like I think for the down time but also not trying to kill my fingers as my forearm is already hurting.

I had some thoughts around an ignite/proc-cast dot build using the Glyph and the ignite stacks in the top right corner, grabbing the "cast glyph at the end of your flame rush" node, "cast invocation at the end of your flame rush" and "cast volcanic orb during flame rush" to just autocast all the things. No idea how well that would work as it requires something like 122 mana for that whole combo to trigger. But it would be pretty rad to turn into a ball of flame that has a ball of flame orbiting you, then when you exit a gigantic fire dot glyph pops on the ground and then another giant fireball explodes, sending embers everywhere that trigger Spreading Flames. Probably too much but the big boom sounds fun :D

That is what I like about this game so many options even among builds even if they may not be really "scalable" lol. What I was running was fireball spreading fire, fire nova with bottom left and right path to make it targetable etc. In glyph going towards casting nova when self invoking. And the return mana part in the bottom left with the stacking dmg counters and making a have a long cd. The booms for a 3 fire rune invocation was bada boom. It was hitting for over 1k crits twice (still doing story) which was good enough for trash but for bosses it slows way down heh.

For me I had a hard time too. Since it such a huge augment class (ie it makes huge changes to the core lines from the elemental lines of the core class) if I were to do it again I would lookup the trees and skills and their trees. Especially Runic Invocation as that is core to how you will build around.
