Cells at Work is one of the most meticulously accurate shows I've ever seen, for a goofy anime about a scatterbrained girl who is also a red blood cell it's really pretty remarkable

tl;dr Data from South Africa continue to be encouraging, new Denmark data are actually fairly encouraging as well, new UK data is falling roughly in line with SA data, new lab data suggest that vaccines may provide better protection against Omicron than the initial nAb numbers indicated.
I'm glad I went through with my booster last week even though the question of how effective the boosters are vs Omicron was sorta still being determined.
One thing I try to keep in mind is that because of the pandemic, medical academia (rightly?) decided to be quicker in publishing research related to COVID-19 -- in practical terms what that means is that we're seeing a lot more preliminary studies being published than we would on any other subject so it's to know what step on the scientific process a given paper is at -- before drawing big conclusions from it.

My wife is fighting her 4th cold in a row right now (having a toddler in preschool is super fun) and we're going to get her tested this evening before we go see the in laws for Christmas.
She's never run a fever, but she's double vaxxed so it might just be those milder symptoms. I don't have any symptoms as of now.

We're traveling to the inlaws for Christmas for a couple days, and everyone we're seeing has been vacc'd and boosted, but we've still got some of the at home tests to take before we leave, after we get back, and then for New Years Eve.

Look who I got to visit!
My old roommate and I talked a little and we're not rushing to prioritize each other since... well, that ship has long sailed, and I was able to apologize for freaking out when her Covid was confirmed.
I think just being friendly with each other is for the best. It sucks thar seven years have ended with us being cool towards each other but that's the way it is, I think, sometimes.

Hey, look, if you get through roommateship with a friendship in tact, that's great
It's a pretty tense time right now and I hope you and your friend can handle the mental health issues and have a good relationship here on out

Same. Times have been trying for everyone. I think we both needed some awareness of how our actions impacted each other but I'm okay with a friend that I occasionally talk to.
: D she is. She got real freaked out when I walked in but then made a beeline over to me and wouldn't leave my lap. I'm really, really happy I got to visit. I thanked my old roommate like eight times because ahhhhhhhh, I love the little dipshit so much

We're really wavering on whether we should go see family over the Christmas break. We're all double vaxxed and adults are boosted, but my kids are in two different schools and neither's bad exactly but still that's a lot of potential exposure and the county where both my parents and my wife's parents live is pretty lousy, and I dunno man. I really just want to hunker down so we don't have to worry about it but I don't know if we're worried about nothing.
As of 5pm, restaurants, bars, casinos, theatres, and gyms closed; schools can only be open to distribute rapid tests; everyone is to work from home where possible
Probably only a matter of time before the rest of the country follows suit

Man, that's wild. I live in the state with the second most covid deaths per capita in the nation, in one of the hardest-hit nations in the world, and I can't imagine a level of daily deaths that would put us into lockdown again. We're talking hand-drawn corpse carts levels and still only maybe.
There might be a correlation there, but I'm no scientist.

I fuckin' wish that attitude was unique to America.

Considering our covid response team just put out a press release going "hey vaccinated people you're cool just keep doing you. Unvaccinated? lol get rekt." I am very jealous of places going into a lock down.
Well, if it helps at all the reason for the lockdown is because we're already losing the capacity to test, contact tracing is already mostly lost, we got too eager and tore down many of our mass vaccination capacity which means most folks won't be boosted for weeks potentially, and there's a real risk of our hospital system exploding given how overwhelming the wave is likely to be
It ain't sunshine up here on that front
The feds have been a bit weaselly on further financial supports to small businesses and I'm really worried for the restaurants and folks who held out this long and are getting slammed before Christmas; with a full lockdown they're at least more likely to loosen the purse strings again, though
I am waiting until January to find out if I just need a booster or if I need new vaccines to be able to enter the United Plaguelands of America.
On the one hand just getting a booster will be easier and quicker.
On the other hand I am not totally against the idea of become the Vaccine King, collector of the world’s COVID vaccines, who is vaxxed not once, not twice, but all of the times.
So I mean I guess just do you, WHO, I’m good either way.

Well our family Christmas thing is cancelled
My wife is pretty sick (still waiting on test results, but she's feeling better today so I think it's flu) as is her Grandpa (who has tested negative), and even if they get better in the next couple days my mother in law is extremely cautious these days, to the point of us being a little concerned she's developing agoraphobia so she seemed kind of relieved to cancel.
So it's just the three of us this Christmas again. Which would be ok, only I can't even get drunk this year 😭

I'm going to be spending Christmas staying in a hotel by myself, so I can have Christmas day with some of my mum's family. I have always gone to them for Christmas unless physically unable, usually stay in one of their houses. But this year my gran died and my grandad's dementia has got exponentially worse and all my aunts and uncles are exhausted and stressed from dealing with it so I decided to hotel it to stay out their way. I'm not expecting a very festive Christmas.
My wife is fighting her 4th cold in a row right now (having a toddler in preschool is super fun) and we're going to get her tested this evening before we go see the in laws for Christmas.

She climbed into our bed at 4 in the morning because she was sleeping on the couch until the text came through. They're really processing those tests round the clock, eh?
Work party had 2 confirmed cases of Covid... Seems like they were Seattle office people and I didn't really talk to many Seattle office folks so I'm kinda hoping that I dodged it? Still, it remains to be seen.
We have Christmas lights strung around our door and porch railing. Yesterday, most of them no longer lit up. I was unreasonably upset by that, for some reason I'm not really sure about, and don't have the energy to reflect on. I'm hoping I can find some replacements at a local hardware
I'm preemptively upset about probably not having the time to replace them before Christmas Day.
has there been any official word on how long after your second dose of the original vaccine is a good time for boosting? I only just got back in the states in October and got my second dose just before Thanksgiving so I imagine it's not anytime soon, but I wanna make sure I know when I should get back in there.

A lot of evidence is saying four months is the ideal time for boosters but a lot of governments are saying five to six months.
I got my booster this morning; unlike the first two I definitely feel like something this time, but don't know how much of that to put down to the fact we were woken up at 3 in the morning two nights ago because two of the horses had got out and were scratching their arses on the corner of the house and I'm yet to recover my sleep.

Be cool if I end up having the place to myself.
If you see creepy little twins or hear like a gurgling from the elevator, maybe... endeavour not to be there for longer than absolutely necessary?
Try to stay on a floor where the elevator doesn't dump blood, too.
Edit: Of course, we're gonna get tested.

Had a real bad reaction to the booster. Brain boiling bad, fever induced hallucinations. Here's being on the other side of it.
