Goddammit.
After a long and private courageous battle with cancer (as Norm himself would have put it), he passed away today.
I first encountered him from SNL, and consider him the most underrated cast member of the show’s run. Then I got into his comedy career and the guy could make me laugh like nobody else could. There isn’t another person alive that can make me laugh the way Norm could just from how he delivered his lines.
The world is a much less funny place today.

He took what would have been a forgettable interview about a bad movie and turned it into a legendary roast with his quick, sharp wit.

He's easily in my top 3 all-time standup list. He lived by a very simple code of it can't be funny if it's not honest, and that definitely burned many bridges with him but what you have is over thirty years of funny. And it will always be funny, there is no "he stopped being funny ten years ago" with Norm. To deliberately bomb at a roast and never show your hand takes balls of steel. And while he would go hard on people, and nasty, he was never cynical, and that is refreshing.
If you haven't, listen to his audiobook of his career, it's very good and you hear a happy man who was thankful and willing to stay true because he knew he had the talent to weather the storms of hollywood and the idiots who run it.
Trevor Moore, Sean Locke, Norm Macdonald, it's getting scary this year.
His final set on Letterman is still something I go back and watch every now and then.
The best part about this is that she's there to promote the movie and he gets her to damn near crying laughter

One of the best era's of the OJ jokes was when OJ first got out , Norm switched all the OJ jokes to like a routine of " I've never told an OJ joke, I would have to be crazy to tell a joke about a murderer who is now out of prison and could murder me, I would never tell that kinda joke"
One of my favorite comedians and a really good comedy writer. Worlds a little less funny now.
