Have they? Mario Kart 7 had the glider and Mario Kart 8 had the hover car sections.
I haven't played the mobile Mario Kart, does it have those things?
do people even like the modern mario sports games, i feel like i only ever hear about them being content light compared to the era of the gamecube or even the wii

My expectations for Strikers is tempered, I loved the shit out of GameCube tennis but Switch had a short honeymoon.
I like the look of the character designs and environments for Xenoblade 3 a lot more than 2, looks like they went back to a more 1-ish design without the gacha anime wife angle

new golf and tennis really require someone on the couch with you to get anything out of i think, there is a big lack of single player modes like the n64 and gc games had
and while its great that all the content they added was free i would have rather those games came out much later and have more courses or characters be unlockables so you had something to work toward
so, i found both to be really good games with nothing to do
As soon as someone started talking in an English accent I knew it was Xenoblade
Xenoblade's Western identity forever altered because Nintendo US decided Wii owners would HATE a huge in depth RPG to play and refused to localize it. Then when they eventually decided to let it come out, only the bare minimum effort allowed. I wonder whose decision all that stupidity was...

Well shit, it does have Sky Garden as one of the first tracks so I'm obligated to get it.
I wonder if they're gonna do any updating like they did for MK8, or if they're gonna leave them "Vanilla."
I would consider it guaranteed they will add the MK8 elements to the tracks (flying, going underwater, turning into hovercrafts). 1) Because they wouldn't feel like proper MK8 tracks if they ditched those elements and 2) Because it is going to take TWO YEARS to release all of them. It would not take that amount of time if they were just doing the graphics and changing nothing.

I think broadly the answer is "No but maybe this next one will be good"
new Three Houses stuff is cool! I didn't really enjoy the first Fire Emblem Warriors game though!
I'm glad they announced some cool stuff after that, cause opening with the very obvious Fire Emblem theme and then seeing it was a warriors game was a huge shot in the heart
I could tell almost immediately it was the Three Houses theme which meant it was just gonna be a heroes spin-off.

Also from what they've shown there's a layer of verticality that wasn't present in any of the GBA tracks. I think they'll thread the needle, I haven't taken umbrage with anything they've remade yet.

This seems to be an interesting new trend for Warriors games, between this and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Both Zelda and Fire Emblem got standard kitchen-sink Warriors games first. But recently, they're also getting more story-focused games that seem to be sorta-but-not-quite canon to a specific story in the series.
Is there a reason for some of the weird phrasing in these directs? Like when they say stuff like "a new update is coming to the Metroid Dread game" instead of just calling it Metroid Dread

Probably some minor legal thing.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
Yeah, I get the feeling that someone somewhere in the legal departments mandated that they make it 100% clear when they're talking about a game and not something else.
Having worked in Japan, I’d guess the overall cultural reluctance to run things by native English speakers in a lot of cases.
You’d think a company as big as Nintendo wouldn’t have an issue with that but… I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the root cause either, based on my lived experiences.
Edit: it’s also inconsistent in the direct. At one point they call it “the Mario kart 8 deluxe game” but they also say “these will be coming as paid courses to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” later on.

I checked the new update. An easier mode, fine for accessibility. And then I saw: Harder mode. Oh boy, harder mode! That sounds like fu-

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

The one-hit kill mode is interesting to me because there's been a recent trend among the speedrunner / streamer set to try various "instant death / no-hit" challenges. This almost feels like a direct response to that.

hey we have value too
admittedly even we don't know what that could be but the Hallmark display insists I do
Maybe the American translator likes that phrasing?

It's just a thousand colors of physical Toad figurines, with no digital component.
Also they do the Toad scream. There's no battery either, so they just keep screaming.
Stop making me want an NFT.
Not like, an actual one, god no. But perpetually screaming Toad? I'll trade some terror for novelty.
