The wee free men is so awesome. So awesome.
THUD is a pretty good intro to Vimes and co, I found.

The Soul Music series was really rather good.

Christopher Lee as death? Oh, yes.

So I picked up The Colour of Magic. It's pretty terrible. I mean it's barely an adequate fantasy story.
The part where they appear on an airplane? Dumb as hell.

And I thought these were supposed to be funny. Well if it is, then I guess I don't get it.

Rincewind is a pretty crappy character.

Maybe there are other good ones. This isn't that fantastic.

What? no, Vimes all the way. With the rest of the Night Watch a close second, and then Death a close third.

Man, I would have totally bought some Death Novels.

But my Borders only had them out of order, so I couldn't start with the beginning.

So I bought a bunch of Night Watch books instead.

To be fair to Ubik, the early Discworld stuff isn't all that great. If you jump in around the Mort/Reaper Man books then it should be all good though.

Yeah, I didn't enjoy The Colour of Magic a whole lot, but the other ones?

    Fucking prime reading, right there.

Right now I've got a major hardon for Captain Richard Sharpe, and Sergeant Patrick Harper, in other news.

It's pretty awful, and a terrible place to start with Discworld. Only hard-core fans should subject themselves to that thing.

Honestly, the first good Discworld book is Pyramids.

I think pratchet has a soft spot for vimes now too, his more recent awesome books are all vimes-related.

I can't bear the witch novels (although sourcery was cool).

But I love every bit of the Watch series.

I'm not condemning the whole universe. It seems pretty interesting.

I'm willing to pick up a Death or Watch book and give it another shot. They're like $6, I can afford to risk it.
