my gpu has barely 1mm of clearance in my case lengthwise. and my case is.. not small
its really crazy. im pretty sure in terms of total volume, an RTX 3080 is larger than an entire super nintendo
Yeah I have a Fractal Meshify C, and even a dual-fan 5600XT, ostensibly a small budget card in the market I bought it in at 10.5" and 6gb of VRAM, only has about 18mm of wiggle room in there since the front fans have an AIO radiator to squeeze behind
One of my biggest concerns for when/if I upgrade my GPU (esp if I crave 1440p gaming) is how on earth I'm going to fit a new card in there, since so many of the ones you can actually buy on the current market are decidedly longer than 10.5" these days
The picture of mine above is a 3080 nosing up to a 240mm radiator in a mid ATX case, a Corsair Carbide Series 275Q Mid-Tower. It's a decent case, roomy enough without being huge, plenty of fan holes, no windows or flashiness.
My Fractal Define 7 Compact is very roomy, it's nice even though I'll probably never need all the space. 360 MM GPU clearance if there's no fan or radiator in the way in the front vent, 341mm if there is.
Oh this is a fun loop
- work has switched over to microsoft authenticator and I need to set up my authenticator account before I can sign into my workspace (and apparently setup was only possible after they made the switch)
- in order to set up microsoft authenticator, I need to sign into my workspace

Ok. This is fine.
“That's some catch, that Catch-22."
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.
The screen on my old one was turning bright white and flickering at me.
I did not realize just how slow my old phone had gotten. This one is so much faster. It's a little bigger, which I don't really like and they took away the finger print reader from the back, which I hate.
I got the case from Google for my pixel 3. It was nice and grippy, I liked it. The pixel 6 Google case is slippery as hell. I don't recommend.
Also, the backup function on the Microsoft authenticator is kind of dumb for some accounts. Anything office 365 made me log into the account, and rescan the QR code. What the hell is the point of the backup then?
Yeah I'm using my old pixel 3a as a camera for some archery stuff, and I wish my pixel 6 was closer to the size of that old phone, but you know, not old, keep the new camera and new speediness

I loved the back of phone finger reader on my old Pixel, very sad they've moved away from that to worse alternatives
Tech workers have bought into the lie that we will make more money as independents than as members of a union.
And things generally aren’t so bad you feel it’s your only recourse.
It doesn't help that '80s "stab you in the back" tech nerds gave rise to '90s "a good magician never reveals their secrets" so sharing at all was unheard of as the millennials starting entering into the field.
BREAKING: Both Visa and Mastercard suspend network services in Russia in the aftermath of President Zelenskyy's appeal this morning.
This seems... big.
I wonder if Visa/MasterCard are anywhere near as ubiquitous in Russia as they are in the West?
At the same time these sanctions and restrictions seem like they're going to ruin the lives of average Russian people while maybe not affecting the people responsible for this war in the first place.

To a degree, which puts more pressure on Putin from the Russian people.
But it’s important to keep some perspective. Even with all of these sanctions impacting their daily lives, at least they aren’t being bombarded by an invading army.

I can't think of a way that you could affect the ones holding all the wealth from the outside that wouldn't affect regular people more, simply by virtue of them sitting on a much larger pile of wealth and interpersonal access even if a lot of it is tied up in various things.

There's totally ways, such as fucking with all the international real estate owned by oligarchs. Not going to happen though, cause that would cause ripples for other rich folks
There'll still be knock on effects that will for sure be made to flow downhill, though. Even if some of it might mess with international people instead of just Russians.
With the shitty way everything is set up all over the world, and the absurd wealth disparity everywhere as well, I don't see a way around it. That doesn't mean don't do it, though.
Just to clarify on that stoppage of services I've seen verification that that's international transactions only not national transactions which are on a different system.

Yea, Russia set up a national card transaction service in 2014 that handles all local credit card transactions, so this only affects Russian cards being used overseas, or overseas cards being used in Russia.

Finally bought a new monitor arm so I can get rid of the space-hogging stock stand. But when I got the monitor off the stand, it had this weird diamond-shaped recessed mount that was too small for a VESA mount to fit into. Oh no!
Half an hour of googling later, I'm about half convinced I'm going to have to buy an expensive adapter when I find a post saying it's a known issue and my monitor should have come with standoff screws to fix the problem. I delve into the giant box where I throw all the extraneous connectors and accessories that come with all my electronics. And there's a little packet of standoff screws right on top of the monitor manual! Problem solved, monitor's mounted, everything's great.
That's the good news. That bad news is that the Accessory Graveyard just came in handy, which resets the clock and means it'll be another decade before I can consider throwing anything away.
Can anybody recommend a good (preferably free) login/password manager? Mine has decided that it will shortly no longer be supported by the company that made it function.

I am a fan of KeePass2 (And compatible apps) but you would be on your own for backups and multi-device sync.
1Password at least still lets you buy a single standalone permanent license, you don't -have- to get a subscription (but its incredibly hidden, you have to download the PC application and buy it through that to even get at it)
We're using lastpass, which is also fine, and has pretty decent ways to manage multiple users sharing the same subscription with different access to keys (so that our kids can store their passwords there but not get at things they shouldn't).

I plunked down the sub for Bitwarden for FIDO support (and the builtin TOTP generator is also handy, although one can argue about the wisdom of storing your 2FA private keys in the same place as your passwords), which I was content to do versus Lastpass which I felt was getting worse and worse but kept on because it was more of annoyance to switch until they forced the issue.
Ok so I'm pretty dumb so I'll ask: how is it better to have a password manager than just a normal sensibly difficult password and 2-factor authentication turned on?

You get to have unique passwords for everything without having to remember a million passwords.

Especially since a lot of places have different password requirements, so even trying to have one single one doesn't workout.
Right and I get that but the nightmare scenario being discussed in this very thread where something with your manager goes awry and you don't have any of your passwords anymore sounds just terrible.

no notes, it does the thing.
I did the same thing last year. Bitwarden is absolutely worth the $10 a year but I do make use of the secure notes and attachments.
KeePass is definitely functional but you if you want convenience and backups you end up paying for that functionality in labor
