Does anyone else wonder if the NBA will eventually reach a point of diminishing returns with a season that seems to last 10 months, and all of "the stars" being out of commission for weeks, multiple times in one season?
It's a situation like MLB, right, with the real money being from TV/streaming broadcast contracts and mega corp ad dollars?
Just saw a comment on Defector that posits a hilarious situation- there’s a possibility that Ben Simmons is eliminated from the playoffs in each of his last 2 games

It’s so incredibly super-duper obvious that the NBA has too much regular season (too much postseason too)
You could contract 2 teams and get a tidy 54 game season with rotating home/away and start at Christmas…but that’s pretty extreme
You could easily keep the season as long as it is but shrink to 66 games with 4 games vs your division and 2 vs everyone else- or slightly shrink to start in like early December (or end in March)
Or you go World football and align the season to the international calendar and build in breaks for international club competition

The only problem I have with shrinking the season is that live events have increased an insane amount the last 5 years or so. Without regulation to get pricing back under control, reducing the amount of games is just going to change spectating from an upper-middle class activity to a full-on elite only privilege.

My god sorry for a posting spree, I was just reminded that the obviously broken and miserable Jazz roster is GMd by Danny Ainge, so they are doomed to “almost had a deal”ing until 2026 when both Gobert’s and Mitchell’s contracts come up

Amazing
Fuckin Ainge!? Oh, the BYU connection.
LMAO

I don't think so this time. If they can't beat a Luka-free Mavs with healthy Mitchell, Gobert, and Conley then I think they will make a change if they can find any takers for Gobert.

Oh Danny Ainge will be working the phones for this alright and we’re gonna hear the day after every trade deadline how close he was but the Hawks just wouldn’t budge on that extra draft pick, it’s a shame
Watching Jimmy Butts brick out the last two plays (not to mention the whole team wasting a lead by switching over to 20 second iso plays in the 4th) was just painful.
Just watched the Pelicans game from last night. I really like what I am seeing there. Eventually the Suns will move on to the next round, but Pels are giving them a run for their money. If they can keep building on that roster and get Zion back at some point, they could really make a run for it. Jackson Hayes needs to calm the fuck down tough - that flagrant 2 against Crowder was completely unnecessary.
Also caught up with the rest of the league. I really love that Utah Jazz color scheme on their uniforms. And I want one of those jackets the Suns coaching staff is wearing.
Mavericks only down 12 after playing one the worst half of basketball I've seen in a while, eh, could be much worse.
Maxi Kleber on 4 fouls is annoying, especially considering what the refs were letting Bogdonavic get away with at the other end, but I mean, not gonna win many games shooting under 30% from the field as a team.
Just saw a comment on Defector that posits a hilarious situation- there’s a possibility that Ben Simmons is eliminated from the playoffs in each of his last 2 games

Im enjoying Bones Hyland's over the top celebrating. Giving the Warriors a tast of their own obnoxiousness.
Hyland was really impressive in the Rising Stars game at the all star weekend. Some of the players were just there and happy to be included, but he wanted to win.

I'm not for players playing hurt but Simmons really making himself look bad.
Whoever sent out that he was probably playing game four should probably not be allowed to speak for Ben Simmons anymore, right? Like...even if they'd won game three, the odds were pretty stacked against him jumping into this series and making a significant impact

I'll follow up a bit on this: Steph Curry came back in Game One and instantly made an impact, but Steph Curry is unquestionably better than Ben Simmons and has also spent a lot of time playing with this version of the Warriors this season. He didn't spend a lot of time playing with both Klay and Draymond this season, but they clearly know how to play together. Simmons is coming off an extended absence after taking a lot of heat for how he plays basketball, and would be playing with guys he has very little experience playing in, against a good team playing very well, in the middle of a series his team is bombing. This is a worst case scenario for jumping back in, and it wouldn't have been much better if the team was down 2-1 instead of 3-0.

Did it suddenly get really moist in here?

Four missed shots so far by my count.
Nance is doing a great job against Ayton right now.

That is all

But
It was the Luka warm up game, we played like bums in the first half, and we're going back to Dallas for game 5. Still feeling confident.
Bulls, Heat, and … Cavs? come to mind as good in the East
::vibrating::
If any team was going to be the first team to blow a 3-0 it would be a doc rivers lead Sixers with Embiid having a strained shooting thumb
Need to settle into a better pace.
Told the Nets his back was giving him pain again.
It's only going to get worse when his back has to carry an entire offseason worth of news for a second year in a row.

I mean, jokes aside there's no reason to jump in to an elimination series you're trailing 3-0. Just call it.

It makes me feel squeamish to agree with Stephen A., but damn, yeah man
…other than hilarity
