Geth, roll 1d20+4 for New Arno Who Dat

    New Arno Who Dat:
    1d20+4 17 [1d20=13]

Or, an Attack Roll (just damage) to try to smash the control panel real-good and hope that that fixes it!
Ah, that Captain action from Starfinder that's described as "you disappear into the ship's guts to pull on random wires to help".

Jack only has one trained skill that uses his primary stats (it's not hard to be unlucky when you're built poorly!), Acrobatics, so unless Urixes can't do any of other skills above +3 he (Jack) should prolly be relegated to keeping people safe. And he is known for keeping people safe.

Not Arno, that’s for sure! Arno would never: 1. Make that face, which has a touch of cruelty to it you’ve never seen your friend make, 2. Wear that sort of gaudy, expensive looking armor, that seems to denote status more than provide protection, 3. Gaze off a top-floor balcony of a tower, “I Am the Night” style while watching a riot and doing nothing

Whoever this is recognized you immediately in the very brief moment they saw you all, and their face seemed to have a certain amount of surprise/unrestrained glee on it at realizing your dangerous predicament

The Bird-Thing flying about the tower keeps returning to the Changeling, as though checking in, or being directed. Whoever Not-Arno is, they seem to be the orchestrator of all of this!

The Changeling seems less interested in the riot, and more like they were impatiently waiting for someone. Behind them, the mechanisms of the clock-tower slowly turn against each other, one floor below the roof of the place…

How much can Oak carry? Enough to carry everyone in the basket?

Oak at the present moment has a carrying capacity of 270 lbs. (18 Str, 15 lbs. per)

We'll call his current carried items and Fusspot neglible, and say Kasha below comes in at a (slim for a Hadozee) 170 lbs.

Jack is worth a wiry 120 lbs., and Urixes at the very lightest would come in at the 140 lbs. mark. So yeah, Oak could carry everyone in the basket (but just barely!)

    What were you thinking? :D

If I were to use Strength to rip the thing out, how bad would the DC be to try and aim it? (Not looking for specific number, just "high" "medium" "ha. good luck"

I'm thinking I cast Fly on Oak, cut the balloon free, and we ride Oak Force One the rest of the way to the tower. Maybe with an appropriately placed Point Break / Speed / Matrix / other Keanu Reeves film quote or two.

  • AustinP0027AustinP0027 Registered User regular
One of the Ogre's if I can. Otherwise, just generally looking for "bad guys". If Oak can't see any close enough, he'd rather aim it for the water, so it doesn't hit someone innocent.

You have no idea how down for this idea Jack is.

Alright, so what I'm hearing from this badass plan:

    1. Oak is gonna pull out and try to chuck the control panel/fuel apparatus strategically into the streets below (Strength Check: Nat 1: Catastrophic Fail: 2-10: Bit of a Whoopsie; 11-15: Land it near the pair of gathered Black-Robes, assisting the Priest; 16-19: Brain one of the Ogres in the head for 6d6 Bludgeoning damage; Nat 20: Hurt the Dogs/Black Robes in a personal and painful fashion)

    2. Urixes is going to cast "Fly" on Oak (requires Concentration; ten minute duration)

    3. Oak is going to grab Urixes and Jack in both arms (like Superman), leap from the basket (that Jack has just cut free from the burning balloon), and glide skywards towards the top floor of Tick Tock Tower

    This sound accurate?

    ...

    If so, a few Questions:

    1. What do you guys do about Kasha the Hadozee? She'll still be attached to the balloon you cut free, and is much too big for the trip. Do you warn her/assist her/leave her to fate?

    2. Are Jack and Urixes just holding on tightly to Oak (and vice-versa), or are you guys tied together somehow?

    3. As mentioned, there's Black-Robes with long guns guarding the lower-levels of the Tower (currently working to keep Grigmar's pirates from the main door). How will you account for the ranged opposition, knowing you don't want Oak to become a pincushion, or Urixes to get hit at all? Coming in too hot? Too high? Firing aggressively? Attempting to fly stealthily?...

  • AustinP0027AustinP0027 Registered User regular
This plan to Fly, while hilarious, seems like it leaves Kasha behind to die, which Oak wouldn't be ok with.

Is there a version of it where someone flies ahead to a potential landing point to help us get the balloon to the right place (rope?) instead of us abandoning Kasha to plummet to her death?

  • DenadaDenada Registered User regular
I was thinking that Oak would carry the whole basket, but if his carrying capacity isn't high enough then we'll have to come up with something else. What if he rages? Does that increase it at all?

  • GlalGlal AiredaleRegistered User regular
If Urixes does some jumping jacks in the balloon to train and hit level 7 he could cast Fly at a higher level and use it on another target.

  • PakuPaku Registered User regular
This whole back and forth is (Colbert eating popcorn.gif) for me right now

Really glad we got the OOC thread going! :)

    Funny you mention that....

  • AustinP0027AustinP0027 Registered User regular
Rage won't increase how much can be carried, only provide advantage on checks. And also will only last a minute since Oak's not in combat.

Our goal is better guidance towards the tower right? That's the successful end state?

  • PakuPaku Registered User regular
Our goal is better guidance towards the tower right? That's the successful end state?

Current goal- reach the top floor (clock area, not roof area) of Tick Tock Tower to confront the Changeling in charge and put an end to the riot

Now made more high stakes as the dinged balloon is either about to fly away or catch fire and burn up, and none of you much know how to pilot the thing (although you could certainly try!)

Whether the balloon comes with or not is up to you guys entirely, so Flying there would seem to solve everything except the Kasha problem and the "being shot at by Tower snipers" problem

  • AustinP0027AustinP0027 Registered User regular
    So, thought.

Oak rips out console and throws it towards tower snipers as a distraction (maybe even hits one).

Doubt we'll be great at piloting this thing, but Urixes casts fly on (?), who takes rope and guides balloon towards tower. Still the problem of other snipers, but safer than cutting the whole thing loose or trying to figure out how to get the balloon under control.

Just have to figure out the (?)

  • GlalGlal AiredaleRegistered User regular
Well, if strength even comes into play when dragging while Flying (~magic~), then either Oak or the Hadozee I imagine, with Jack and Urixes laying down covering fire, they both have good ranged options.

And fingers crossed we get to the tower before we burn up.

  • AustinP0027AustinP0027 Registered User regular
I'm fine with Oak having to do it

  • PakuPaku Registered User regular
    So, as I understand it:

    - The Control Panel/Fuel Apparatus stays in place (for now), as you all try to pilot the balloon towards the Tower

    - Urixes will cast "Fly" on Oak (allowing Oak to be able to guide the craft for the group, then quickly leave the balloon when he absolutely needs to)

    - Oak will get the balloon as close to the tower's top floor as possible, with Jack, Kasha, and Urixes each ready to lay down covering fire the very second you all draw attention from the Black-Robe snipers

    - The moment before you draw sniper fire, Oak will finally pull the Control Panel/Fuel Apparatus loose from the craft, and shotput it towards the Black-Robes as an improvised thrown-weapon/likely-explosive

    - Urixes, Jack, and Kasha will be priority-one attempting to get safely to the top floor as soon as they are able (or barring the top floor, just safely away from the burning balloon/sniper fire). Once his group has gotten to safety, the (hopefully, still capable of Flight) Barabarian will follow close behind

This sound accurate? (Correct/leave an agree, and then we have some rolls to make!)

Waiting on approval/check-in from Urixes to move the balloon group forward

Waiting on check-in from Arno to move the alley fight forward

Oak: Please roll Insight or Perception to figure out how to guide the Balloon ASAP. And please roll a Constitution Save (DC-14) vs. the flames that are building overhead to stand the heat (1d10 fire damage, or half as much on a success!)

Jack and Urixes: The Black Robes have the numbers (twenty that you can see, at least), but you currently have the speed and height advantage (for the moment). Please make an Attack Roll vs. The nearest Black Robes that tries to draw down on your balloon. Then, make a Stealth Check: if you can beat the Black Robe’s Passive Perception (10), make an additional Attack Roll (ie, they never even saw you coming)

    Geth roll 1d20+7 Kasha-Crossbow
    Geth roll 1d8+4 piercing

The Wild Bunch's Proactive Defense hit the Black Robes in the Tower with an almost overwhelming force, nailing nearly every shot of their assault! Only a single sniper will manage to get a retaliatory shot back in at the swiftly incoming Balloon and it's inhabitants :

    1- Urixes
    2- Control Panel/Fuel Apparatus (AC 10)
3- Basket (Underside of the Craft) (AC 10)
    4- Oak
    5- Jack
    6- Kasha (AC 16)

    Prepare for a crash landing!

Dex Saving Throw to escape from the Balloon's fiery crash into the Clock Face, and land on the Top Floor as safely and securely as possible!

Oak is currently capable of Flight, and wouldn’t need to make a Saving Throw if he simply wanted to roll out of the craft at the right time…but somehow, I’m guessing he has something else in mind. Oak, what would you like to do under present circumstances?

Geth roll 1d20+4 Dex Saving Throw (Kasha)

    Dex Saving Throw (Kasha):
    1d20+4 16 [1d20=12]

Since I can still fly, can I do anything to assist either of the two who might look like they are failing?

Basically, if they both jump out successfully, I'll do the same. But if one of them looks like they are struggling, can I do something to help out (and have a roll with it?)

Absolutely! :) It'll be an Athletics or Acrobatics Roll to flying-tackle someone safely out of the crash and get you both landed unharmed/not immediately put in a another perilous situation

On that 20: Where does Jack land?

    - On both feet, miraculously unharmed and still-moving with momentum from your jump along the Top Floor of the Tower? (Extra Turn)

    - In the rafters up above running in and out of the machines that run the Clock, quickly and quietly able to pull yourself up? (Start Hidden and with height advantage)

    - "Accidentally" landing atop the Watchful Changeling, sword sheathed (or maybe not?) (Free Attack on the Changeling or chance to knock Prone/Instant and direct engagement with the presumed enemy)

    So here's your situation:
    3i01y7vo6jew.jpg
    zy5suxr9hj2l.jpg

    A. Wild Bunch's Crashing/Burning Balloon

    B. The Watchful Changeling

    C. The Shrieking Corvian-Thing

    D. The Black Robe Snipers

    E. Gorgeous Grigmar's Goons/Tick Tock Tower's Front Door

    F. The Clock Face (Containing an obvious Interior Location that isn't currently visible, but likely will be after the balloon and basket hit it, on-fire and going sixty miles per hour)

    G. Rafters/Support Columns/Bracing Structures/Machine Mechanisms (Directly overhead the top floor, looking over both the interior and exterior of the Clock Face area)

    H. Exit Hatch- Given the design of the tower, there's probably a trap door to a staircase below somewhere up here, leading to the lower levels of the tower. It seems to be a fair distance (60 feet+) between each level vertically

The Black Robe Snipers in the tower are the ones who have been firing on the balloon. From what you can see, they occupy the two levels below the top floor, but you don't see any on the top floor itself.

The Corvian-Thing continues to circle the top floor, occasionally descending back into the city briefly to harass or terrorize.

Gorgeous Grigmar's Goons, despite the suppression fire from overhead, have nearly breached the front door.

Oak, it looks like Jack, Urixes, and Kasha are all positioned to (somehow) fly out of the basket, and land (more or less) safe and unharmed around the top floor of the tower! Now that you're not on the line to catch someone (and since Urixes maintains Concentration with that landing) how would you like to proceed?

  • GlalGlal AiredaleRegistered User regular
I'd like Jack to end up hidden in the rafters-he's not really sure what the deal with the changeling is yet and isn't ready to just attack them on the spot.

  • AustinP0027AustinP0027 Registered User regular
In the drawing you did above, where are we "landing"? Same level as B? D?

Same level as B (Watchful Changeling, on the top floor). D (The Black Robe Snipers, in general) occupy the two lower floors of the tower, at about 60+ and 120+ vertical feet down from the top floor
