We called ourselves "Team Delta" and we'd start every map as Spies with the "Delta Route", which was a coordinated path that would have us double team a single point or hit two at the exact same time...
...One of my favorite tactics we had was a special communication whenever our character's got tagged. Both Spies and Mercs had the ability to mark an enemy with equipment. If you were paying attention, you'd know when you were marked. Marking did two things; it put you on the enemies radar and allowed the other team to listen into your voice chat. When we got tagged, we would say to each other, "So I had these amazing pancakes for breakfast." Anything breakfast related meant we were tagged and going to talk reverse nonsense. Since the enemy could only hear one side of the conversation, we'd say shit like, "OK, I'll stay here, you go check the ground level" with my partner hanging out in the same room as me to ambush enemy Spies thinking they had a free 2v1 situation.
Even though you played as Mercs I feel like this level of focus, coordination, situational awareness, and treachery would make Sam Fisher proud.
I wish there was some other multiplayer spy game that was similar to the Chaos Theory two player spy co-op missions. Those were a blast.
Thinking back on it, I was still working a shitty retail job at the time Skyrim came out. My coworkers were all talking about it to pass time during our shifts, and IIRC one of them was playing it on PS3 which famously had a memory leak bug that wasn't fixable. But he loved it anyway.
The GTA remasters are the laziest major game release since Cyberpunk
This is kind of complete bullshit. Cyberpunk was not a lazy release by any metric. The devs busted ass under some incredible, soul-sucking crunch conditions.
Shareholders and other rich-guys-in-suits are responsible for everything wrong with Cyberpunk, not any "laziness" on the part of the folks actually working on it.

Seems to me forcing your employees to crunch is lazy. I am not and never blamed the people working on the game, it's always the rich assholes who run the show who ruin the whole thing for everyone. Too ambitious means you have to take your time and not shit out a game by a certain deadline, and take better care of the people working on it.
That's awesome. To be honest I don't know much about hero academy, but spies vs. mercs was an obsession for an entire summer over xbox live. Don't get me started on how double agent ruined it, but damn I would love to revisit river mall.
My friend and I played a ton of SvM back on the OG Xbox. We ended up playing as Mercs more often because EVERYONE wanted to play Spies first, then would leave after we crushed them. We called ourselves "Team Delta" and we'd start every map as Spies with the "Delta Route", which was a coordinated path that would have us double team a single point or hit two at the exact same time.
At our peak, we were easily winning 90% of our games against randoms. I mean, two coordinated people would run over two strangers. Sometimes though we'd get matched up against another pair and would try run games with them as long as possible.
One of my favorite tactics we had was a special communication whenever our character's got tagged. Both Spies and Mercs had the ability to mark an enemy with equipment. Once the game servers dried up in 2006, I got us a pair of custom Spy vs Merc T-Shirts made. I still own mine:
My XBL name back then was Bosshogx (before switching to MNC Dover in 2007).
The back of the shirt showed our unique Spy equipment, laid out in the formation that we'd see in game.
In this picture, the Spy equipment is 1) Smoke, 2) Sticky Camera, 3) Spy Bullet, and 4) Stealth Suit
I think a modernized version of the 2v2 gameplay would make for an incredible eSport. The power vs stealth mechanics were so good back in 2005, so I can only imagine how much better a modern game with balance passes and unique maps could be.
But alas, this game type will never see the light of day again. Ubisoft kept adding more action and players into the mix, grinding the original stealth gameplay out of existence. Such a shame.
Man we make killing people out of the game references all the time. That takes me back.

There is a game coming out called Spectre from another company that is trying to revive this gametype, since Ubisoft destroyed it.
The thing I missed about morrowind was that playing with numbers had effects. So 50% resist magic made only half a blind spell affect you, so you only had a black screen of 50% opacity when you got the boots of blinding speed.
Meaning I create a constant effect of resist magic from 1 to 100, and swap it on and off until I roll a high enough number to rock the weapons.
Whole thing failed when I got damaged, but until then, shit rocked.

I look forward to the Vvanderfall project happening because seeing the pack dynamics of such alien species rather than star trek's "stick some spikes on it" would make me happy.
The first TES game I ever played for longer than 2 hours is Elder Scrolls Online. I started two months ago and for a mmo it's surprisingly good but I'm mainly taking it as a singleplayer experience. Exploring around doing quests, some landscapes in this game are gorgeous. I'll probably play the rest of the series at one point too.

Yeah ESO is a good single player experience for a mmo, and not a bad way to explore the lore and the world until or if we ever get 6.

Dammit, why did I think things would be different?
I was wondering what could possibly be up with the GTA5 next gen releases, but if this is indicative of their strategy...

I'm not sure what people were expecting. Didn't Rockstar and Take-Two get out in front of this a while back saying not to expect anything in the same universe as GTA5 graphical fidelity? And even that game is from 2013.
Not to defend a lazy cash grab, but at a certain point, the easily hustled should really stop blaming the hustler.

People have been saying the games control a lot better with systems used in GTA5 replacing some clunkier GTA3 ones and there are definite graphical improvements. But there are also a lot of graphical glitches (misaligned textures or models being commonly reported) or side effects (actual shadows makes dark alleys a pain to navigate). Work definitely went into this but probably not enough given how huge even one of those games is.

Going by the pair of pics that were posted, it seems that the issue is that the "remaster" manages to look worse than a straight up-rez of the original face texture/model (probably) would.

Lord of the Rings Online also does the whole "single player experience" really, really well, too. Plus if you're even a small fan of Tolkien's world, it's full of lore and references and everything you'll find. (I mean, they have actual Tolkien experts on staff helping them to massage the lore into the game without stretching it more than they have to- plus, there's a big content sale going on at the moment until the end of November where you can get a huge chunk of the game for less than ten bucks, and the biggest sale of the year- Black Friday- coming in two weeks, too! It's the perfect time to get in on it!)

Yeah the complaints are not that the remasters don't look like GTA5, it's that it's a lazy cashgrab that is a nightmare in its execution (neural net texture treatments that look way worse than the originals, distort faces, terrible fx etc etc) while literally erasing the originals.
These are the newest ones, right? Are they any good? Do they have real Adventure puzzles in them or are they just a collection of mini games like the College one on XBOX?
I wouldn't know- I've only got experience with the remake of #1 and then a playthrough of Magna Cum Laude on 360. Both are... playable, but wouldn't be my first choice to play.
The problem seems to be that they went for a stylised interpretation, but instead of doing things manually and taking art direction into account, they just used algorithms and systems to achieve it. Which means you get some stuff that looks decent, but other stuff that just looks weird. It’s a remaster of half measures. It didn’t have to look like gtav, but it doesn’t even look universally like what it’s actually trying to look like. It’s not meeting it’s own mission statement essentially

That's another good one yea, I hope it's gonna stay alive for a few more years because I'll switch to it after ESO. Also all quest packs are free to keep in LOTRO until the end of this month.

Considering they just launched a new expansion two days ago, I think there's still a lot of life left in this one. It's got a solid playerbase in it too!

Is Cyberpunk 2077 finally in a playable state or should I continue waiting? It sounds like it still has a way to go patching wise and I am not in a particular rush if they are still fixing it.

I might give LotRO a shot then. Since I essentially have to buy a game 4 times to play it (three kids), seems like a good time to get that content in everyone's library.

First off, a few caveats: to get the most out of it right now, you'll have to drop a little money per account to pick up the on-sale expansions. There are nine total expansions (Mines of Moria, Siege of Mirkwood, Rise of Isengard, Riders of Rohan, Helm's Deep, Mordor, Minas Morgul, War of Three Peaks, and Fate of Gundabad). There's enough in the way on sale to pick up the first six expansions in 99-point packs, but it beats dropping $60 per account for the expansion collection, and unless you're binging on the game for eight to ten hours a day, that should be a long, long time until you hit the end of that content. The big Black Friday sale is oncoming, as well, and odds are at least the seventh expansion will be getting a good sale, and we're hoping the eighth gets one too- if that happens, you ought to grab those while they're still cheap (better to grab them when they're cheap even if they don't play them now instead of having to pay the full price four times over if they like it in the future, anyways). Fate of Gundabad, however, will be only available from the official site cash shop until sometime around March next year, when it'll get bumped into the in-game shop for LOTRO points, and it'll be a while before it gets a drop in price.
Each person will need a LOTRO account, which is free, but you'll need to make a character on each account and log into the game because the store where you redeem the codes and buy the on-sale expansions is in-game. There is some stuff paywalled (a few races and character classes) - it is a F2P MMO- but there's nothing really gamebreaking hidden away in the cash shop. But the good news is that you can link a Steam account to the game and buy points and things using your Steam balance if you don't feel like plugging in a Paypal or a credit card.

I'm playing it now for the 3rd time. With the help of some indispensable mods like the full gameplay rebalance and better vehicle first person, it's fine, though there's still some janky shit going on, like NPCs overlapping each other or walking through your character, physics bugs, and exploding meshes.
I wouldn't play it unmodded at this point, but in the state my game's in I'm having a shitload of fun.

I have a friend who had created spells in Morrowind that were basically a coin flip when he used them as to whether it would crash his Xbox.
Sounds like standard Wild Magic. Will this spell cast a fireball or turn off Coulomb's Law? Cast and find out!
What's up with Rockstar and leaving stuff in the game that shouldn't be there?
Also, people will just mod the songs back in there, so it doesn't really matter if Michael Jackson music was buried in the files or not.
