honestly i've played a lot of gachas just because the early game, where you're trying to bolt together a team out of random draws, can actually be pretty fun and intellectually stimulating. it's like doing one of those pokemon randomizer nuzlocke sorta things. i'd really love it if a game could nail down a way to get that experience in-game, so with all the faults of the blade gacha i'm glad there's experimenting
Isn't that just a rogue-like?
No
To elaborate, roguelike design entails being highly run-based, and discarding the player's progress on whatever kind of defeat state you reach. This is only about applying randomization to the resources the player is afforded in an otherwise fixed-progression game, such as a JRPG like Xenoblade doling out the rare Blades in random fashion rather than hiding them in explicit (and therefore predictable and repeatable) locations.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

That aspect I liked, but I turned around on it when I hit hour 300 and never got Kos-Mos.
I still don't have Kos-Mos.

I got her on my first rare blade attempt. And I think it sucks that you never did. The randomizing shit is garbage.
I got Kos-Mos by abusing cloud saves since it only rolls gacha result for each core at the moment of rolling, meaning by turning auto cloud save off, uploading file with a bunch of rare cores to roll into the cloud, then rolling in game I could essentially keep re-downloading the original file from the cloud to bypass the autosave until I rolled the Blade I wanted. Which was basically Kos-Mos.
Still mostly enjoying this, but some of the design choices are just annoying. The Agate quests can die in a fire. Go mine spots in each zone in remote locations. there's 3 in each region, but only 1 of those 3 if going to be doable at the starting level, so enjoy making your way to one and finding out its wrong.
Confusing routing. But mostly things like making every step of a quest findable out of order obscuring what the actual next leg of the side quest should be. The Lightening girl blade is similar but less obnoxious than Agate's since at least those are in towns mainly.
I'm sure there's no way this pope, church, god etc are going to be the bad guys right?
Actually, as far as rolling blades goes? I'd have made there be only the rare blades. You just only get cores from story events and sidequests. So if you 100% the sidequests you end up with all the rare blades, you just don't know what order you'll get them in.

Part of the issue is that the if you get certain blades early, their quests are really rough to do, and if you get them later, it's no problem.

I recently wondered if it was mere indolence that's kept me from changing my avatar for so long, considering it's from a medium-liked game from well over 20 years ago.
Turns out, nope! Because I'm extremely excited for it to drop on PC/Switch tomorrow!
There's hope, I think - gacha games rely on a huge stable of known popular characters. While there have been a bunch of Tactics Ogre games, I don't think any of the characters really have broader appeal in the gaming world. Of course, they could just churn out Beach Ozma, Bridal Ravness, etc, White Day Catiua, etc, so who knows.

I'm 100% fine with Tactics Ogre coming back, provided its not some mobile gacha bullshit, but Ogre Battle was really my jam. I would have loved to see the legion system introduced in 64 made into something... not horrible. It felt like it had real potential and there were a ton more RTS-like things they could've done with the engine, but alas.

Don’t do that
Don’t give me hope
@Munkus Beaver Have you given Triangle Strategy a shot? It has that old Tactics Ogre/Final Fantasy Tactics feel.

I had not and have needed a new switch game so here I go
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Sakaguchi tweeted something in response to the Japanese tweet about the trademark filing that might have been a joke but implied Matsuno had been busy with something recently and maybe it was this, though he did not have any particular inside knowledge as to what.
It's actually a very faithful port, in that it plays pretty much identically to how it runs on the ps1. Blemishes and all.

Well, it feels silly to buy the game again since I still have the original PS1 version from the day it came out, but I feel obligated to support Radical Dreamers, so I'll be the switch beta tester.
It's already possible and very easy to replace the backgrounds in the remaster so there's no technical hurdle for a community based version. Plus square enix tackled the hard work of making videos/fonts/music replaceable, which is really nice. The performance is disappointing though.
The previously existing mod AI upscale didn't use any special training or manual touch-ups for the background, it was gigapixel with smoothing cranked all the way up to compensate for the limited palette and dithering. So the potential for something better is pretty good.

Same, though I went Series X.
I might even check my storage unit see if I can find the original strat guide I have (I'm a hard copy whore and have been a guide and artbook whale for decades. Last count is I have over 110 between the 2 types).

Re: Xenoblade 2
Oh no, what did they do to Poppi again?
Nearing the end I think. Getting into the weird Xeno stuff.
I may have made a mistake by not using a specific character as a blade more along the way. We'll see. My overleveling has caught up to the plot levels so it's back to needing a bit of care.
Update: Finished up XC2. Overall I enjoyed it despite some frustrating design choices. Biggest peeves was the bad directions with the map and compass, the gacha blade system, and then less annoying than I thought it would be but there a bit, the more over the top outfits and stuff like Tora being a creep. But there's actually quite a few good designs in the mix as well and characters I liked. So it was tolerable. Wish they had some more easily acquired/used alternate outfits apart from the accessory slot ones. But the one for Mythra was good.
Was gonna leave Torna Golden Country for a bit later but got curious and dipped right into it. Liking the combat changes quite a bit actually and the visuals seems like a nice improvement. Was also quickly reminded I had Mythra in an alternate outfit most of XC2.

Hey I'm down for sooner, provided the quality doesn't suffer for it. Then again it's not like it's easy to tell with a JRPG unless it's just incredibly egregious

But just give me a nice 2dhd remake or a GBA upscale and I'd be fine with that too.

That PSP remake was real good
And that it removed the accents?
It only removed some of them. Mojo's for example, but nobody really knows why.
And, yeah, it apparently has a bunch of technical issues, like an uneven frame rate and input lagging.
It's actually a very faithful port, in that it plays pretty much identically to how it runs on the ps1. Blemishes and all.
Feels bad man.
Also the way they enhanced it looks worse than what you can do with filters in an emulator in multiple places.

No platforms mentioned but they are moving it to UE5 from 4 since it will be an easy transition

The most common speculation I've seen is that Nintendo's shuffling it around with Splatoon 3.
