World in Conflict looks to be the next big thing in RTS's.
I'd write up an OP explaining the game but really, the screenshots speak for themselves. The game looks intense and amazing. Really unprecedented for an RTS.
It's by Massive Studios, the studio that brought you Ground Control. Again, this speaks for itself.
World in Conflict Game Features
Fight in real-life locations in America, Western Europe, and the USSR.
View the conflict from every angle with amazing 360° camera control that can get right into combat or the entire battlefield.
Choose the units you want right away and join the fight in seconds.
Employ super weapons like artillery barrages, napalm strikes, and awesome tactical nukes.
Battle online for the ultimate online teamplay experience with up to 16 players.
Master four different player roles; Air, Armor, Infantry and Support.
As someone who thinks Ground Control 2 fucking rocked and didnt get the credit it deserved, Im hoping this game turns out to be a success so Massive gets some god damned recognition for being awesome.
Well, considering it can support up to 16 players multiplayer, I hope it's streamlined.
Also, is this one of those games where you are given a certain amount of money and then just call in units and when they die and you're out of money that's it the game ends? Or do you choose all your units beforehand and then call them out whenever you want during the game?
Beta Key GET. Damn this looks sexy, although it will probably bring my comp to its knees. Which is sad because its not even that bad of a computer, but this looks like its going to be major resource hog.

Because I hate games like that.
Looking at the trailers, and previous Massive games, I'm not seeing any base type buildings. Troops quite often enter the battlefield by landing in or repeling from helicopters, so I'm thinking it'll be something like Ground Control 2, hopefully with the ability to earn resources and call in more units, as opposed to picking them at the start and bringing them in later ala Ground Control 1.

I wouldn't mind something like that as long as you had a form of income, like capture points or something similiar to War40k.
It should finish downloading in about 4 hours.
Edit: Just watched the the E3 demo. You have a set number of credits for each map, and then you choose a role (infantry, artillery, air), you order your units in game and they're dropped off via air transport. If the plane makes it back then it reloads and you can pull out more units.
It sounds pretty good. Units level up and apparantely there are capture nodes. I think he said something about changing roles mid game as well. As you capture nodes and win skirmishes you also get technical aid points that you can use to call in air strikes, napalms, nukes, and other things.

Sounds quite a bit like Ground Control 2, though in that if the dropship was destroyed you had to pay a good lot of credits to replace it. I'm stoked, though this will melt my computer. Downloading!

If you aren't living in the US, register under a city and zip from a major city or they'll reject you.

I don't even think it will run the games menus, I'm downloading it anyways.
Hah. Intel Celeron M 1.5 GHz
ATi Radeon Xpress 200M (Integrated card, sucks up 64mb system ram)
512Mb RAM
So, I'm guessing this is another one of those games for other people. People with nice computers.

Someone with similar specs let me know how it runs, I'm stuck at work for a good long while

As long as the artillery is Ground Control-esque, I'll be pleased.

Holy fuck 20kbps. Not like their servers are getting hit hard or anything.
It just went to 5 hours.

260kbps
I expect immediate reports.
I promise nothing! Mostly because I don't think it will run on my computer.
I have a similar setup:
P4 3.2 (HT)
GeForce 7800GS
1 gig RAM
I don't expect it to be fantastic, but I'm hoping it runs. Won't even be able to get a key until I get home from work though. <Fingers Crossed>
