New "Draft Saved" popup is kind of intrusive

It's significantly larger than the old one and it animates in and out from the lower lefthand corner every five seconds or so while composing a post. I know this is probably a Vanilla feature not a PAF feature so there may not be anything to be done here, but it's a bit annoying!

    At least on mobile, it no longer covers the text typing box! Instead the keyboard partially covers it.

    But yeah, it's definitely broken, or could lead to breaking, and posting a ton when not desired.

    Pretty sure this is what happened to me in the post soviet states thread.

    For reference. On mobile using safari on an iPhone. Each draft posted to the thread instead of saving as a draft. I did not press the “post button” but was rather typing in the text box and moving between windows to continue reading the thread.

    Started with this post (posts have since been edited to remove the duplicated text)

    The multi-draft posting cracked me up since I wasn't posting anything of much substance but I want to note that I am fairly certain it happens specifically if you have the new post interface in a separate tab or window

    I middle-clicked Post Reply so I could come back to a quoted post I wanted to comment on after I finished catching up on the rest of the thread and I think that has something to do with the multi-posting, if this were occurring with every post the forum would be unreadable right now

    This bug makes the forum shit out drafts if you click save draft while it's happening. I think Vanilla hit some weird save draft limit like how certain forums go absolutely falling piano on a a thousand pages.

    IF THE BUG IS HAPPENING, DO NOT CLICK SAVE DRAFT, DO NOT COMPOSE YOUR THOUGHTS IN THE QUICK REPLY WINDOW, CLOSE ALL OTHER TABS, GO TO MY DRAFTS AND DELETE THE INFINITE STAGGERED SAVED DRAFTS. IF YOUR FAN HAS BEGUN SPINNING, THE BUG IS HAPPENING.

    Delete a draft even if nothing is happening.

    I wonder if you are more likely to have that "Save draft" issue pop up on mobile, where I swear it is easier to hit the draft button.

    Regardless, is this happening to other Vanilla forums? Or is this a case of our unique stylesheet/code breaking things with a new update? Because I fear the latter, due to the small amount of funds and development resources put towards the forums these days.

    At least for me (Android, Chrome) it's been an improvement. The saved notification is more frequent, but it's just a white bar that slides across between the draft box and my keyboard, can't even see the message. So it's a little distracting but it no longer blocks anything. Guess I got lucky.

    Please just turn off draft autosaving altogether, it's always like, oh, you didn't fully type your entire post out inside of ten seconds, with no spelling errors or other edits? SAVED, POP UP, HAHA. That's a mild version of what it feels like.

    it is also currently (at least on firefox on iphone)
    • saving without telling you, but not reliably, only sometimes
    • you do get the old popup, but not necessarily when it saves
    • saving anyway after posting a comment almost every time

    please just turn it off. i have literally never once had a draft save on purpose and it is too unreliable to depend on the autosave. it needs to be opt-in at the very least. it is extremely obnoxious as a feature

    I have been getting a few more draft saves of the thing I just posted than before as well on desktop firefox in the last few days.
    Or perhaps it was from posting I was doing on android firefox, now that I think about it. I'm not sure.
    edit: no it's definitely been happening on desktop too.

    pulling it out into the autosave.js like it used to be instead of integrating it into the base.blahblah.js would be helpful, at least it can be adblocked that way
