Yo, time for another VR MMO attempt. This time it's Zenith, created by Ramen VR.

It has had several alpha and beta weekends and is entering early access on 1/27/2022 at 1pm EST.
A thrilling anime and JRPG inspired VR MMO coming to Oculus Quest, Quest 2, Rift, Playstation VR, and SteamVR on Jan, 27 2022

There are two classes, dual sword wielding melee Blade Master, and the dual pistols magician Essence Mage. Both classes have a dps, support (healing), and tank role they can change freely that each level independently. The combat is disincentives flailing wildly, with abilities being tied to smooth horizontal or verticle swings & proc'ed by gestures for instance.

I'll be interested to see how they optimize play time requirements for a VR MMO. Most MMOs/shared world games are trying to keep you in logged in and in a play session as long as humanely possible which just doesn't jive with VR in general. Especially a VR game where you're having to do a lot of physical movement. Either the intensity is going to have to be low enough that you don't wear people out, or the play time requirements are going to have to be significantly shortened from your average MMO. Most of the stuff I do in VR is pretty high intensity (iRacing, ACC, Beat Saber) so I'm curious to see which direction they go.

Yeah, the nature of VR definitely effects the logged in service angle. It's not a subscription game so maybe they're less caught up on that in the long term.

I played about 6 hours yesterday and it was a blast. I was playing the tank-specced mage which gets glowing magical shields if you holds both you hands up defensively. Real fun. Some bugginess, to be expected of an mmo much less a vr one. The first 'dungeon' bugged out and all the enemies stopped moving and were invincible while I was hoping tank people through it. That server eventually booted me/crashed and enemies were back to grumpy once I got back into another one.

Tons of just chatting with people in the open world or while helping them. Pointing out to each other where chests were or upgrade collectables, about the game in general, whatever. I stopped at the third area which had dizzying verticality, requiring you to climb the sides of structures very very high in the sky. Speaking to that, there's stamina-based gliding and climbing right out the gate. The first zone has sidequests for gliding through rings and ziplines to get way higher and some of those maneuvers make me feel sick and nervous still. Fall damage didn't seem to be a thing fortunately.
