I can understand how “fire dragon” could appeal more than “water turtle with some cannons” (even though Blastoise is totally cooler) but I’m struggling on how this applies to Scarlet/Violet
Both Legendaries are dragon lizard things, just one is like prehistoric feather bike and one is sci-fi electric rocket, what makes Scarlet so much more appealing?
Red is a much more popular color as compared to Purple.
All this to say that I set out on my trip to the local Target fully intending to buy a copy of Pokemon Scarlet, but with the idea in the back of my head that I needed to be prepared for the eventuality that they might only have copies of Violet. And it's a good thing I did, because Pokemon Scarlet was fucking obliterated. Like, multiple empty shelves labeled "Pokemon Scarlet" level of destroyed. "Here's where we'd put our copies of Pokemon Scarlet... IF WE HAD ANY!!!" type out of stock. (Within three hours of the store opening.) And right below that? Absolutely full stock of Pokemon Violet. Dozens upon dozens of boxes with that poor electric motorbike dragon pleading to be picked up. So, as is my usual trend, I'm in team "blue version". Let me know if y'all ever need a Violet version exclusive.
... caveman waifu stronk.
Huh. I would not have called that. I'd have thought the sci-fi dragon would be more appealing than the chunky dinosaur.

Sorry, that specific example is a non-sequitur to the rest of the post. It's not specifically about the monster on the box, but about any minor differentiation that might wind up having an outsize effect on people's preferences between what are otherwise essentially identical products.
And then, in the very last sentence, I lay my experience with the lopsided availability of Scarlet vs. Violet at the feet of the difference between the Pokémon professors between versions.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
I went with Scarlet since the more old/traditional/non-futuristic look appealed to me and because the derpy lizard bike that has wheels but runs on all fours anyway is my kind of critter.

True, sorry, not accusing you of saying that was the definite reason, more just curious what it is actually driving Scarlet
I appreciate it’s the professors for you, but I feel like that wouldn’t be a big factor overall. I could be wrong!
I guess like shoeboxjeddy said, it’s probably simply the colors

Clearly in the Pokemon world there are no copyright laws or patents because the number of different people who claim to have invented the Pokedex would otherwise result in dozens of lawsuits by now.
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
Despite thinking the Violet legendary looks way better than the big stupid fire dragon, I still picked up scarlet because cool lady professor + prehistoric vibes
And then, spoilers for like 5-10 minutes into the game
immediately fell in love with the big stupid fire dragon's walk cycle (he looks so dumb!), and now I'm even more convinced I made the right choice
The more I play this the more I love it. I can see the issues people have with it but for me the fun open world and open story is refreshing. And I just did my first terra raid thing and those are sooo much more fun than the lairs and adventure raid things from last gen.

Autobots! Transform and rollout!

i always pick the less popular version, but this time i genuinely preferred it. it started with red / blue, when i let my little sister have red rather than fight her about it, and it’s been like that every generation since, even though we don’t share a house, a game system, or even a country any more.
anyway, i liked the Violet legendary more, the future theme less, but the hot dad professor is an additional huge bonus.
You can reset spawns by going into Picnic mode and leaving. No sound for Shiny spawns is a really weird choice and a number of color blind shiny hunters are very upset about it.
What’s up with the rival characters choosing the disadvantageous type these days?
I mean, Nemona already has a collection of Pokémon (she’s basically playing on new game +), so it’s not like the game is making your rival bad at the game, but it feels weird. Made more sense in Black/White as a contrast between Cheren and Bianca.

Yeah, in PLA I'm pretty sure I would have missed shinies if not for the sound
A bit worried about missing them in this game. Especially since many of them are so tiny

I think it makes sense for Nemona.
She's an experienced trainer and you literally got your first pokemon two seconds ago.
Little did she know you're a pokégenius with knowledge from your past lives
I saw that there is a mystery gift for a flying Pikachu, is this something that we can reset for ideal nature or does it save automatically like in the past?

Something I heard about that might improve framerate issues, though I haven't personally compared it yet: in the Switch system settings, you can lock the display output for the TV mode to specific resolutions. Busting it down to 720p from 1080p can take some of the render load off the game if your willing to sacrifice resolution.

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
The only things I don't prefer about Violet is the Professor and the naming convention for the Paradox Forms. The names of the Scarlet PokeDox are much cooler. But Ralts' is deffo my favorite

Violet has Commander Shepard as the Professor, which hey good for him.

So, lemme preface this by stating I've never played any of the games except for Go, so I don't have any direct experience...
That said, I've always gotten the impression that the Johto games were much more of a direct sequel than the others. Like the others felt like a more Final Fantasy style series, but Johto felt like an FFX-2
Tinkalink line I think is my fav of the new lines so far but they all are really good! Even the new bugs I don't mind. But my little fairy hammer warrior is my fav so far
Also I think if I could I'd go rogue with my starter. Like pawmi, who's about the same spot as pikachu, so there's at least a little equivalence. Or be weird and have Cyclizar. Or hell even Eevee lol
I am holding fast to my teambuilding policy of "no previous gen Mons" despite how difficult that is, there's a lot of greats even in just the first couple places. Unfortunately, since I picked Fuecoco, I'm still absent a Water type. I was actually using Hoppip for a while until I found Smoliv, but Hoppip's such a sweet little guy and basically worthless in a fight anyway, so whatever. Went West and grabbed the first badge, then spent longer than I care to admit trying to find the little red guy that looks like he probably evolves into Ceruledge/Armarouge, since the map was showing they could be found nearby. I finally caved and looked it up, and it was for the best. For anyone else who's having trouble with that, if you just want a little hint...
It looks like they're fixed spawns, despite showing on the map in "random" locations. So if you go to a place and don't see it, don't bother waiting around, it's either there or it's not.
It's a backup for now, since as I said Fuecoco was my starter, but I'm not very impressed with Crocalor's look. If it doesn't grow on me, or if the final evo is disappointing, it's probably going in the box.
I am surprised at how much I'm enjoying the Tera Raid battles so far. Granted I've only done a couple of the super easy ones, but I did nab me a new Pokemon with an unusual Tera Type that I immediately swapped onto my team.
Also:
If I replay this game, there's a decent chance I go with an All Good Boys team. I've met like 5 different doggos just this far into the game.

For water early new mon
past the lighthouse at the start if you follow the little river between it and the next town to a small beach there’s wigletts. You gotta throw a ball at them from close to max range or they spook and burrow without being able to start a fight though
So the restaurants have confirmed the existence of ham and various forms of seafood (like clams) as things the people here eat. And also there’s a dish that straight up restore a boiled Klawf claw. People absolutely eat (some) Pokémon around these parts.

Had the game crash when I opened the map traveling toward the steel titan. Thankfully only lost like half an hour/10 catches from my dex. Turned autosave back on after that. Make sure if you turn yours off that you save frequently!
