So at least it counts any BBQs you do before beating Indigo Disk. 16 snacks waiting right away.

On the other hand, catching all of these is a chore in itself.

I got so used to being ill-equipped for double battles that challenging these visitors to single battles feels hollow.

Make an entire game with only double battles please.

I'm late to the DLC but I've just about finished Teal Mask. Fuck me the performance is terrible, how is it worse then the base game? They've improved absolutely nothing and now a new area that's 1/5th the size runs at half the frame rate basically the entire time!? And of course the abundance of trade evo pokemon they added just to make finishing the dex an extra PITA

Anyway technical issues aside I'd still rate it below both of the SW DLCs, hopefully the area zero stuff is better.

Brace for yet more trading bullshit.

I'm somewhat sympathetic to the need to prevent all the counterfeit Pokemon but goddamn, if they're going to make trading with randos such a pain they need to just drop the trade evos already.

Just got a new Switch about ten days ago and I've been enjoying Legends. Been thinking about picking up another modern entry and I'm wondering what peoples' opinions are on whether I should grab Let's Go, SwSh or SV next.

Oh man, you’re going to HATE Indigo Disk. I didn’t really have problems with Kitakami personally, but the Terarium’s performance is BAAAAAAD.

Not really, it’s a pretty on-rails set piece that feels extremely disjointed from the rest of the DLC story.

Jank performance aside (which I didn't experience too much of on an OLED, other than some background slideshowing), Scarlet/Violet was way more fun. Open world Pokemon is rad, and the way they handled travel powers is super fun.

Yeah, SV is great fun, if you can handle the performance problems. If you like Legends you'll probably like SV too. SS is ok. Let's Go is good, but low on pokemon battling.

I've been having some luck in finding trade evos in terra raids that I can solo. Picked up a Kingdra, Rhymperior, and Magmortar, plus a 6-star Cleavor that was still rock-type.

There's definitely a free Master Ball gift running currently, and I think there are still a few going to coincide with the dlc release (a darkrai and shiny lucario?) but you'll need to find the codes for those.

DLC can be saved till postgame if you like, it's mostly separate from the base stuff, and kinda scales to main game progress, but going in with a high level end game team will make the dlc very easy.

  • Options

I think you can get a master ball, shiny lucario, darkrai, and a ghimighoul from mystery gifts right now. The mons are codes but they should be in the “news” section that pops up when you connect online.

I honestly don’t know why they have these things split between “connect to internet to find gifts” and “know the special secret code” it just feels like using outdated tech because of tradition

  • Options

I believe the Darkrai event ends tomorrow (12/21). Code is NEWM00N1SC0M1NG

Shiny Lucario is good until Jan 3, code is SH1NYBUDDY

Masterball is just a mystery gift, choose to search online

And the Gimmighoul is good til next November apparently, code is SEEY0U1NPALDEA

Violet acquired! Living a five minute walk from the Walmart I work at has its perks. :)

Now, who's my starter gonna be? A quick look at the Gyms is making me lean towards Fuecoco.

Fuecoco is such a delightful design, top tier starter. Probably my favorite initial evolution for fire starters, though Incineroar and Braixen are the best for the other two stages. (I may be biased by Incineroar having such a fun Z-move)

I wouldn't worry too much about gym matchups, there's an incredible diversity of pokemon available out of the gate.

Hey, actually, I just remembered a big version difference that might matter.

In Scarlet and Violet, you're a student at a hoity-toity boarding school, so you're obligated to wear the school uniform at all times, with the option of four different seasonal variations. This means that in Scarlet you will always be wearing orange pants, and in Violet you will always be wearing blue pants. I lucked out in this respect since the version I chose gives you the color of clothes I'd have picked had I known (Violet).

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

This BP grind is possibly the worst thing ever added to a Pokémon game. It's been at least 8 hours to get half of the 12,000 BP needed to unlock all the Pokémon.

Much like Ogre Oustin', while you CAN do them solo, BBQs are clearly designed to be done in groups. You get BP for not only yours, but everyone else's. Plus you get group quests which give you a ton, plus are needed to get the remaining snacks.

Edit: For reference, from doing 12 group BBQs (and their perquisites), I got all the BP needed to unlock everything through club donations, plus about 20k on top of that.

Just having a second person makes it so so much faster. With 4 people the amount of overlap on quests would be all over the place, and you can complete anyone's solo quests, so if everyone draws "photograph a flying pokemon"? Bam, one photo = 4 clears.

I spent an hour doing them just with my brother and we got north of 5k BP easily.

I've been using r/unioncircle to hook up with randoms.
First group quest was take a group photo, it could not be skipped, you could not build up quests to get a new one.
I spent over an hour trying to wrangle the 4 of us together. One asian player decided to just use the time to fight trainers in the savannah. Lots of emotes, lots of running back and forward. Got a lot easier when one of them logged off.
    Was fun, ended with 9000bp.
Will go back again but now I want to catch a wyrdeer in go within the next 3 hours
