unfortunately, at least 5 people have died, to sober up everything

the storm itself was not bad, the storm surge that came after? utterly devastating to the area

both my partner and parents are out of town and safe though, and my folks house is fine too ( my partner is moving out of her place that floods a bunch at the end of november

I don't think anyone died to the winds up here in SC. Tons of downed trees though and about 1/4 of the state, 1.4 million, without power.

I am glad you're safe my dude. This was a real bastard of a storm and it was rough as hell two states up. I don't know how Florida is still attached to the continent.

My friends in Georgia are mostly without power and having hard times driving anywhere due to downed trees and power lines. One friend had a tree fall on his shed and another friend had a tree land on his house. 😞

Admitting this will probably curse me next time a Hurricane swings by Florida. I live N/NE about 20 miles or so of Tampa. This hurricane? We got a bit of wind, but nothing super scary, and rain. I grew up in Florida so I'm one of those that has Hurricane parties, etc. My wife? yeah she's been here 8 years and still becomes a crazy person when a hurricane is announced. She buys water, batteries, tons of stuff. Anyway, long story short, it's been a long while since I remember any problems with a hurricane around where I've lived.

The Meadery has power so I think we're gonna set up home base here.

Took an electric chainsaw out and cleared a downed tree across one of the entrances and I feel so much better. I have to do things or I get dark. The more physical the better.

Summer never really happened in Edinburgh this year, and winter has started early to get in on the action. So my SAD is pretty strong. You know, the creeping existential dread, the thanotropic ideation, the crushing lonely helplessness in the face of the inevitable march of time, the loss of happiness as an option, yadda yadda. Doesn't normally kick in until November, and not so strong as this either.

Anyway it's bad enough that I decided to actually do something about it and I have installed 100W-equivalent (I am sceptical about this but nvm) 6500K daylight bulbs in the ceiling light fixtures and they got here this morning and OH WOW ITS LIKE MEDITERRANEAN SUMMER IN HERE AM I IN RHODES OR SOMETHING?.

I don't know if they going to actually help with the winter blues but dang, it's nice to at least feel like it's a sunny day for a bit.

Edit: Dang I need to clean this place a bit more often huh?

Edit 2: Good job I have sorted out my own sunshine in here because there's damb all coming in from out there. No crushing hopelessness was experienced last night; in fact I got maybe 6h of sleep which is a solid B+ to A- in my book.

I just got my yearly public service loan forgiveness form processed, which I forgot to do last year, and according to them I have 11 more payments and then all the rest of my student loans will be waived.

    Pretty psyched.

Kim Diaz Holm is a really interesting Norwegian artist who's very active on YouTube. He does ink blot drawings and is very open to people using his art for whatever they want, basically. Like multiple videos going "No! Don't steal my art! Go to my website, download it in high res for free and just use it, print it, even sell it if you want". I showed a friend some of his stuff and, after finally accepting that he really does want people to use it, she starting talking about wanting some of his stuff on a t-shirt (and selling them next time there's Pride).

So without her knowing, I'm having this printed:

Very much looking forward to seeing her reaction.

I guess this thread works. Been having a lot of health issues this year that have caused me to be out of work about six months of the year so far, not all at once. Found out yesterday that my healthcare system qualified me for an assistance program and 100% forgave my current bill and past amounts that had gone to collections. Just a huge chunk of my debt, wiped out.

The heater core hose assembly in my car fucking broke and sprayed coolant on the engine block and dropped about a half gallon of coolant out of my resevoir.

I don't really know how I got the old hose assembly off or the new one on but holy shit I did. I used a fucking pair of wire strippers to get the tension clamps on and off because I don't have channel locks. My knuckles are busted to fuck.

I don't really know if it's fixed yet until I drive tomorrow and my car explodes, but after confirming I don't need to drop the coolant and burp it, I feel a minor sense of accomplishment that's juuuuust barely registering amidst the white hot anger and frustration.

Perhaps there's a pocket dimension where all the oil it's been skimming goes.

Not as of yet. She did however secure a bucket of money (like over 500k) from a few investors, so there's a lot more opportunity to finally expand the business and hire more engineers to help her. Hopefully the extra money and growth will help influence data providers to hop on board.
