What time, specifically, do new games unlock on the Nintendo eShop?
I've got Live A Live preordered and installed, and I am so ready. The pixel art in that game is breathtaking. And if it should happen to unlock at like 11pm local time (which would be 12am east coast time), I might be able to stay up and play for a bit.
If it's a midnight release, which it most probably is, then it's 12am EST/9PM PST. Or more simply about 4 hours from when you posted this.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Meanwhile Japan got the Super Famicom version of Kirby's Star Stacker in place of Puyo Puyo 1. Or rather the other way around, the much superior Puyo Puyo 2 was launch title for the service in both regions, but I guess they wanted something Kirby for the North American update and didn't want it to be a Japanese exclusive title.
I have $60 in Amazon funbux from my birthday last week. Can’t for the life of me decide between Live a Live and Xenoblade.
Like, I probably won’t have the free time that XC3 deserves… ever, and I might actually finish Livealive, but part of me is very resistant to that kind of price point for a suped-up SNES game.
That guy in Fighter's History is definitely NOT Ryu.
I remember when Capcom sued Data East over Fighter's History and lost.
And looking at the game, I'm kind of surprised they did lose. Like apparently even the judge at the end said "Boy even I can't deny how much they ripped you off... but them's the breaks.".

Now there's an IP that could make a comeback as a 2D fighter. Cops driving by, manhole instant KOs, and flowerpot dropping to spice up the action.
Let's give Blue Haired guy and Green Haired guy names (the Ken/Ryu of the game) and add in a bunch of new, wacky characters to the fold.
Smash Brothers is arguably an updated Urban Champion.
No doubt. I'd love to see more of a street fighter knock-off Urban Champion though. Less vertical fighting in a slower, more controlled environment. For example, no jumping outside of specific jumpkicks special moves and characters would never change sides since the rounds are determined by who gets corned and knocked to the next screen. Keeping the fighters grounded gives more of a focus on the fighting engine to create a deeper experience.
The two fighters from the original game (similar styles ala Ken/Ryu), 6-8 new characters, and Little Mac (he trained on those streets) could be the starting roster (~10-12 total). If the game takes off, Nintendo can easily add new fighters as DLC from their wealth of IP choices.

Yeah, pure grounded combat with a few jump attacks that don't move over the other person. Punch, Kick, Evade/Block, Throw buttons, no crouching or jumping. Attacking and getting hit drain Stamina. The lower your stamina, the further you get knocked back from attacks. Getting hit in the corner by a strong attack with 25% stamina left in the corner will knock you out into the next street.

Played through the western chapter of Live-a-Live. The translation is weirdly specific about what it wants to content censor. In the original version the healing items were bourbon and tequila but they were changed to just generic ointment items in this one, but there's also an item that's literally just translated as "Horse Shit" and there's an opportunity to respond with "your mother's, maybe" when one of the gang members tries to insult you by asking if you're only capable of drinking milk if it's "straight from the tit". Western localization choices are such a meme sometimes.
Otherwise the game is about as you'd expect it to be in the Octopath engine, just great to look at overall and the UI is thankfully leagues better than the original game, especially with regards to explaining mechanics. (which the original just kind of laughed at you if you wanted to know how anything worked)

The Present chapter had a funny bit. One of the fighters will call Masaru a "mother ******", bleep and all, and when you beat him will say "Well shit, I sure got my ass kicked".

If you beat someone badly enough they lose their edge?

The healing items thing is particularly odd to me. Because in that chapter, those booze healing items would heal you, but also inflict some debuffs or status ailments. Because it’s alcohol. Generic ointments don’t really fit that game mechanic.
Oh for gods sake. I get it, alcohol references probably would have pushed the ESRB rating out of teen. Probably the better financial choice to rename a few things but I wish they could just suck it up and take the M rating.

It's just a fine tradition for Nintendo handhelds at this point.
Apparently it's always been Grape Juice in Japanese too, just a running joke.

I know, right?!
I was so hoping for an Urban Champion stage in the last few games. Flower pots deal damage, you can knock opponents off the sides of the screen or down manholes... it's perfect!
Heck, an added touch could be that knocking an opponent out on one side causes the stage to scroll to the next block in that direction.

American standards of decency are just totally fucked. Shoot hundreds of people in the face, still get a T-rating as long as there's no gore or blood spray. A single woman's nipple? M-rating! I really hate the lines parents here draw as well. Working retail, I have encountered way too many parents who have no problem with their 10 year old playing the graphic violence of GTA or COD, but instead are concerned with the foul language and sexual content.
So far I've done the Western chapter, the China chapter and the Edo chapter. They're pretty faithful recreations of the originals, but going into the "near future" (the near future of nineteen ninety fiiiiive) I'm immediately struck by how much this one just oozes that late-80s/early-90s style - they even created a whole Super Robo style intro and opening theme song to the chapter for the remake which is just a delight. The near future and prehistoric chapters are the ones I remember the least by far(I blame the confusing fan translations of the time) but so far it's setting up to be one of my favorites this time around.
Initially I wasn’t interested in Live A Live but I really want Square to continue with these pseudo 3D remakes. So I ordered a copy. I’ll get Dragon Quest 3 as well. Hopefully it’ll eventually lead to a Chrono Trigger remake. I wanted a remake using the Dragon Quest XI engine but would be perfectly happy with a game like this.

I started the demo with the ancient China path which I was enjoying. But I'm in the last chapter of Three Hopes right now so I'm waiting a bit to really dig in.
Finished playing through the Edo chapter, loved nearly every minute of it, although it was frustratingly difficult and confusing at times. But in the end wandering through a giant castle fighting ghosts and sneaking through trap doors won me over. Playing through the future chapter now, wondering when the shoe's gonna drop it's been a bit boring so far. I have played through this game before on the SNES, but it's been nearly 20 years and I don't remember much of anything, so I'm looking forward to it.

I played through what I think is most of Edo on Stream last night and loved it too. I giggle a little bit every time I do the invisible poster move. Playing it for the first time, not using a walkthrough, and determined to not kill anybody is maybe not the easiest decision but it’s a lot of fun.
