Oh, if it had been some other subject I would not have gotten it that fast for sure.

That’s part of what I think is so cool. I think there was one a while back where discrider was like β€œI would have had it sooner if I’d tried chiral instead of chiralty” and I was only vaguely aware of what those words meant.

Redactle is an interesting little Rorschach test.

    Should probably explain that.

The article was "polysaccharide", and I'd seen "xxxx to xxxx" or similar.
That turned into "right to left" and then "hand" followed.
I tentatively guessed chirality which looks at the left or right handed orientation of chemical bonds, and missed. But chiral was in the same paragraph.

So it wasn't just pulled out of thin air, and the miss moved me away from chemistry for a while.

Ok, that is weird. An S on spot 4, I and T are in but not where I feel like they "should" go. I don't think there will be any repeating letters either. It also feels like there should be another vowel in here, but "moist" and "hoist" but those are already ruled out.
Oh wait a second, there are plenty of adjectives that end in Y!

Got the area narrowed down pretty quick but it's not one I'm super familiar with so I went a-googling which gave me the answer. It is not a term I'm familiar with or ever recall learning in school.

I solved today's Redactle (#37) in 17 guesses with an accuracy of 70.59%.

There's a third type of organism that isn't animal or plant, and also isn't the answer?

There are two entire types of organisms I have never even fucking heard of?

Well, sort of - after looking it up, turns out I had heard of fungus before, but there are 5 types of organisms and I didn't know the others existed at all......

I solved today's Redactle (#37) in 54 guesses with an accuracy of 79.63%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

    20-54 were googling
20 was however you spell eurokyrate, and it looks like this term is actually the more formal version, and protist is not used any more.

I just think when the redactle itself reads:
Systematists today do not treat Protista as a formal taxon, but the term "protist" is still commonly used for convenience in two ways.

Which I read as "we no longer use this except as jargon between scientists"
It seems like a cheap shot.

    Redactle #38 Saturday

    17 guesses 58% accuracy
I guessed city early on and then thought perhaps it was a religion. Islam got me close, revealing that it was one of multiple similar things related to the answer. Once Jerusalem was eliminated I started thinking people.

Managed to do yesterday's Redactly (37) pretty quick (40-something guesses), just in time for the new one to unlock.
Using plant and animal early on paid off for once.

    Redactle #38 (Saturday):
You solved it in 121 guesses (not proud of this)
Your accuracy was 56.20% (kinda proud of this, as I was close for a lot)
I was so close for a lot of it, guessing cities, books, practices before going for people. Lots of kings, prophets and judges before remembering that [named] was pretty important as well.

I can gave a bit of layman's explanation for you
Only have a MSc in Molecular Biology and that was 20 years ago, so PhDs in actual (micro-)biology, feel free to yell at me how wrong I am. Of the other 2 types, you may not have heard of Moneras, but you have heard of what made up the biggest chunk of Moneras: Bacteria*
Protists are roughly speaking (and feel free to yell at me again, proper biologists) "all the weird shit that we can't justify fitting in any of the other four types, though we have tried fitting some of them with animals, plants or fungi at various times". As they don't have much in common as a group, it's therefore a mostly obsolete term.

*= it's not just Bacteria, but to explain the difference between Bacteria and Archae would take a lot of time and somebody more versed in the matter than I am. Most simply said there is some a very noticeable difference in cellular structure between Moneras and any of the other four types: a so-called Nucleus. Moneras don't have them, others do.

    Not great, but not terrible.
I should’ve immediately started guessing Biblical names once the word β€œBible” unlocked a bunch of stuff, but words like philosophy and school didn’t do much so I got distracted trying to narrow it down further. Guessed a bunch of Kings first.

Last five guesses were Moses, Isaac, David, Jacob, and finally Abraham.
