If I had first encountered Elden Ring in my teenage years it would have likely been my favorite game all time and I would have a tattoo of the arc symbol.
Just perfect in almost every way

I've always wanted to get scarification, in the shape of some obscure occult sigil, or like, Tzeentch's icon.

Hey uhh, have you ever gone back to the Rykard arena after defeating him?
Just had an Indiana Jones moment in Nokstella, except
instead of taking a treasure and then running away from a boulder, I dodge the boulder trap first, sneak away to go claim the treasure, and as I crouch down to open the chest, the boulder comes through the door, closes the door behind itself, and rolls up quiet like Jaws out of the water to crush me to death

less of an indiana jones moment and more of a UHF weird al parody of indiana jones moment

Couldn't find a clip on youtube. Haven't seen that movie in years, I'll have to rewatch it if I can find it!

I loved those enemies in Nokstella. They were some real "What the fuck" moments.
I can't even get mad that it killed me with like 5% of his hp left. It going full King Ghidorah with the red lightning everywhere and its twin heads shooting off golden versions of the Shin Godzilla atomic breath was great.

Don't die at the same time as him, or your runes are trapped there forever.

I got to the Three Sisters and met Renna and her little coterie of ghostly companions, and the sorceror dude is like "I live in a tower near by, come see me", and I assumed that would obviously be the nearby tower whose door was locked, but... still locked. Not really clear where I'm supposed to go for that dude.

yeah hey did you guys notice the name of this place was the three sisters? very subtle stuff I can see why most people would have missed that

If it's any consolation I totally missed the third tower too. Though I didn't care to look for him any further because he seemed like a turbodick, but Blaidd was saying yo go check up the homie and I'm like maaaaaaaaan.
I'm sure it's been discussed, but i'm gonna say it anyway since I haven't read ahead of where I am in the game.
Malenia is the worst designed boss fight from a mechanics perspective in any Souls game.
Mechanics for Malenia
I think she's pretty fair. 100% block great shield will tank waterfowl dance. The heal on hit is too high, but if it were halved I think it would be fine. They're trying to punish summons and co-op but it doesn't work.
Mimic Tear is still the solution, as with all things, since you can stunlock her to death with a large weapon or beefy spell with your buddy
Strangely got the urge to play ds, prepare to die and man, after remembering taking damn hours to get through the first undead area is...hilarious to just beeline straight to that first dragon and getting the first big gate unlocked from the back. Only died once, and only took as long as it did cause I was conservative and said "well let's go ahead and get that residence key and some levels" cleric has a hella easy start, and using resin and the drop on the bridge fight is just so good. Only got annoyed at going down one path before I should have (darn you dragon, I forgot I could roll and face tank your fire to get through). Maybe I'll beat it this time? Just wanted something...less open than elden ring, which was also just feeling too easy and I couldn't tell if I got gud or was overleveled or both. (Just in terms of the generic enemies, evergaols and stuff still wreck face, I'm still way early)
the fact that only one of the malenia's three supers is actually punishable on dodge is emblematic of how fucky this boss is. i truly hate it. of course you can also just summon and watch the summon beat the boss for you in a couple tries. you can do that!
Is the dive bomb explosion super actually punishable in melee? I ask because while it leaves her locked in place for a while, it seems to me like it was creating a big rot zone that kept hitting, so trying to fight in it would be silly. I could totally fire off some moonveil potshots though.

there's a brief window between the hitbox fading and malenia recovering that you can score a couple hits, but it's not a huge opening in melee. you can squeeze more out if you're willing to take a little damage and rot buildup.
i might give this a shot next time seeing how reliably LobosJr can get parries off with the buckler, but at the time, 3 parries per riposte is a really bad return on DPS. it might make the RNG more manageable to not have to respond to every single attack with dodging though.

Buckler parrying in this same is ridiculously generous, if that makes it more palatable. It's a full 15 frames.
I do think many bosses don't give enough openings as solo opponents, but then with ashes, they're too easy (especially lategame; those bosses are brutal 1v1 and especially trivial with a +10 summon, especially the powerful uniques like Tiche or Mimic)
It makes me think they should have toned down the boss's baseline but given them some more dangerous movesets after you summon

Character update: Malenia down. In the silliest way possible. Turns out she's not very good against flies. Like, at all. Also there's a crystal tear that lets you light roll even in full bullgoat armor. So i summoned Ol' Fartface's Puppet to help be a decoy, buffed up, and then drowned Malenia in a hail of angry hungry bloodflies. (And given the low stat requirement and the fact that i'm not sure bloodflies actually scale with your incant scaling at all... this may be a viable tactic for many other characters). Only hard bit was dealing with her phase transition bomb move, which was two-shotting me until i changed up my armor.
Outside of gimmick shennagins, the build's settled into using an Occult Flamberge with Seppuku and an Occult Grave Scythe with Sword Dance. Grave Scythe is for things that dont bleed easily, or where i dont really want to spend the hp on Seppuku. Anything that bleeds though? Good god, they pop like zits. Nice thing is that by switching from Blood to Occult i've lost very little bleed potential in practical terms (Perhaps one more hit on my scythe? The flamberge can often bleed things in a single hit with Sepukku, it's silly) but gained a lot of raw damage - ontop of being able to respec to cut strength out basically entirely and focus hard on Arcane. Also splash a bit more faith for Greyroll's Roar, which is a damn fine "Fuck everything around me" spell.

Also Patches asks you to give her a art of castanets while she's there but it doesn't seem to do much.
yeah it makes me think it might be broken or something?

phase 1 is fine, but phase 2 gets very silly
it is technically possible to dodge through a thirty second attack chain to get your 1 to 2 hit opening, so it's fine
